HOLY APOSTLES’ HAPPENINGS Holy Apostles Mission Commitment 2022 Commitments are important. They demonstrate who and what is important to us. We cannot all make the same commitments, but we can all make an equal sacrifice to God in gratitude for all we have received, trusting that God will continue to bless us in ways we cannot even imagine. Over the next three weekends, each parish household will be asked to make an intentional commitment to Loving God (through prayer), Loving Others (through service), and Transforming Our World (through financial generosity) over the next year as three separate parts to our annual fall appeal. If you have not received a paper form in the mail yet, it will be arriving within the next few days. Please return the commitment forms on or before Sunday, November 7th. Or even better, complete the form electronically! Scan this QR code, or visit www.hanb.org to access the form. “Take courage; get up. Jesus is calling you” (Mark 10:49) Making Disciples with Hospitality - Come & See Sessions This past summer, we held Come & See sessions in Holy Apostles Host Homes. These sessions offer hospitality, where we invite seekers to check out the Catholic Church by getting to know Catholic disciples here at HA. We also invite folks who have been away from the Church to join us. This summer, the gentle hospitality of Jesus was present in our gatherings and everyone experienced growth in Christ. To learn more, you are welcome to participate in a Come & See session. The next sessions begin on Tuesdays, starting November 30th at 6:30 pm. Maybe you want to explore Catholicism or you know someone who is interested. Maybe you want to consider becoming a Host Home. If you want to learn more about Come & See sessions, please contact anyone of the following, asking them how it impacted their journey in Christ: Jenny & Jim Bruders, Heather & Tim Borchardt, Donna & Ed Rivard, Jay Landry, or Fr. Arul. “Carnival” for Special People On Sunday, November 7th, from 12:30-4:30 pm, the Special Needs Ministry is hosting a “Carnival” – a day of fun, games and prizes - for developmentally disabled adults, ages 16 & older. We will be hosting three one-hour sessions at the Holy Apostles Gym and they are FREE. We are looking for 40 volunteers to help run the games throughout the afternoon. Please use this link, https://bit.ly/2XwLeIP, or contact Stephanie Arcuri at steph_arcuri@hotmail.com. If you would like to attend this “Carnival,” please RSVP to Stephanie at steph_arcuri@hotmail.com by Sunday, October 31st because space is limited.
HOLY APOSTLES’ HAPPENINGS Staff Updates Brothers and Sisters, I pray and hope that you are well. As we continue to move forward with our mission of loving God and others in the midst of a pandemic, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support and love for Holy Apostles. Our community has adapted well throughout these uncertain times. The staff has been shifting roles, responsibilities, and structure throughout the last year as the needs of our community have changed. In the upcoming weeks, you will see job openings and opportunities advertised through our various channels as we navigate additional changes. For those who have not heard, Mrs. Kristin Lee, our school principal, will be transitioning to a new opportunity in November. We were blessed to have her with us the past three years and we are grateful for her dedication to our school. On behalf of our community, I wish her many blessings on her journey and will continue to pray for her. We are filled with hope and optimism as we begin our search for a new principal. We are blessed with a dedicated staff, wonderful parish, and school families, and our school continues to grow. We are one of the largest schools in the archdiocese, guided by our faith, strong school leadership teams, established processes, and a love for our children. Our parish pews are filled with strong, passionate, generous disciples. We will continue to Love God, Love Others, and Transform Our World! Meet MEETOur OURLeaders LEADERS Maura Porn 3rd Grade Teacher My name is Maura Porn and I teach third grade at Holy Apostles. I joined the HA staff in August of 2011. I actually came to Holy Apostles as a student teacher in 2009. I worked with Tracy Rushmer in K5. I fell in love with the HA community and really enjoyed working with the awesome staff here. I couldn’t wait to come back as an actual classroom teacher. Before becoming a teacher, I worked for many years as a Milwaukee County Lifeguard (17) and as a ZUMBA instructor. I love watching my students grow throughout the school year; not only academically but socially, emotionally, and in their faith. I make it a goal for every student to grow into curious learners who ask questions, investigate, problem solve, and work with each other. I love creating fun learning activities and lessons. I always wanted to be a teacher. My Dad still talks about how I used to line up my stuffed animals and teach them whatever I had learned in school that day. When I am not at school, I love spending time with my husband Tony, our two children; Henry (4), and Charlie (2); and our Goldendoodle, Bernie. We love to do anything outdoors! I am looking forward to a great year at Holy Apostles! I can be reached at mporn@hanb.org. DID YOU KNOW? Mercy Mats Would you like to gather with others to make Mercy Mats for MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary? You can be the hands of Jesus providing Mercy Mats to the homeless at MacCanon Brown -- how awesome is that! If interested, we are offering two times per month to gather in fellowship and have fun making a Mercy Mat with others. You can have the option to cut strips of plastic bags, loop the strips and roll into balls called plarn (plastic yarn), or crochet the strips to make a mat. Please sign-up using our Sign Up Genius link, type in https://bit.ly/3nWEcI6.
