You can add a courtesy phrase, such as the English “Nice to meet you,” or “Pleasure to meet you.” In Spanish, we usually say “Mucho gusto” or “Encantado de conocerte.” ● RESPONSES– nice to meet you 1) El gusto es mío- the pleasure is mine 2) Igualmente – likewise Activity: Practice reading this dialogue. The next part of a usual first-encounter conversation includes introducing yourself further by talking about where you are from, where you live, age, what you do etc.
The phrases for this in Spanish are the usual. ¿Qué haces? (what do you do?) . “I’m a teacher”: Soy profesora. Vocabulary Questions Responses 1. What is your name? ¿Cómo te llamas? Me llamo Juan. (My name is Juan) ¿Cómo se llama Ud.? 2. Where are you from? ¿De dónde eres? Soy de Guyana. (I am from Guyana) ¿De dónde es Ud.? 3. Where do you live? ¿Dónde vives? Vivo en Parika. Spanish has two ways of saying you: tú, which is informal, and usted (Ud.), which is formal. We use the informal style when speaking to a friend, a family member or
a child. We use the formal style when speaking to someone in a position of power or someone we are meeting for the first time. Activity Jenel is your new neighbor. She is from Bolivia. Week: One Lesson: Three Topic: Descriptions (Describing one’s family member) If you want someone to describe themselves you ask ¿Cómo eres? Response: Soy estudioso. (I am studious) If you want to know the description of someone else you ask ¿Cómo es...? Question: ¿Cómo es tu madre? Response: Mi madre es amistosa. (My mother is friendly) Note: If the noun is feminine/singular, the adjective must be feminine/singular. Mi madre es alta - My mother is tall. If the noun is masculine/singular, the adjective must be masculine/singular. Mi padre es alto- My father is tall If the noun is masculine/plural, the adjective must be masculine/plural. Mis hermanos son altos- My brothers are tall. If the noun is feminine/plural, the adjective must be feminine/plural. Mis hermanas son altas - My sisters are tall. Note: You can use “este es / esta es” (This is) to introduce your family members. Este es is used for masculine nouns and esta es is used for feminine nouns. Activity You are showing your friend your family album and he is asking you to describe everyone. Translate the following sentences.

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION SECONDARY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMME SPANISH GRADE 7 Week 5 Lesson: One Topic: La hora (Telling time on the hour) ● ¿Que hora es? is used to ask for the time in Spanish. ● Think of 1:00 as being singular, and the other hours, 2-12, as being plural. That is why we use 'es la una' and 'son las dos, son las tres, etc.' Activity Write in Spanish the times shown in the chart below.

Es la una y cinco. (It's five minutes past one.) Son las tres y doce. (It’s twelve minutes past three.) To tell the minutes from 31-59 we use another structure. In English, we have two different ways of telling this time: we can say 'It's 5:45' or we can say 'It's a quarter to six.' Minutes can be subtracted from the hour using the word menos (less). -Es la una menos cinco. It’s five minutes till one (12:55) -Son las tres menos doce. It’s twelve minutes till three. (2:43)
