DIRECTOR’S NOTE A Message from the Director, Sean McGrew Welcome back. Those words have a much deeper meaning than ever before for us at Mill Valley Recreation. On March 17, 2020, the Mill Valley Community and Aquatics & Fitness Centers closed to the public, the tennis courts, golf course, and parks were closed shortly thereafter. Although we have been in some way, shape, or form offering programs since May 2020, we were not open to most of you. All of us have faced the challenges of COVID; when 2020 started, most of us had never heard of Zoom or had to do remote learning and we didn’t have to shelter in place or wear masks to go shopping. For Mill Valley Recreation, we had never done camps for essential workers or fitness by appointment, plus virtual programs were virtually nonexistent before March 17, 2020. Welcome back. In addition to the pandemic, we faced the challenges of public safety power shut-offs, fires ravaging California, and now a severe drought. Throughout these difficult times, Mill Valley Recreation has been working diligently to address each change head-on. Whether it was how to have a cooling station/power safety shut down location in the Age of COVID or how to reduce water usage by 40% and still have usable amenities, Mill Valley Recreation staff has been working hard to make sure to address it. Welcome back. On July 1, 2021, we reopened our the Mill Valley Community and Aquatics & Fitness Centers doors to the public once again with summers camps, swim lessons, adult programs, personal training sessions, and much more. In honor of the challenges, we have all faced together, the Mill Valley Parks and Recreation Commission approved the “Welcome Back Pass” for the Aquatics & Fitness Center; which now includes group fitness classes as well as entry to the pool and gym. As we were all in this together, all of us get the City of Mill Valley rate. We’re not yet fully back to where we were pre-COVID. Although we still have to wear masks in the majority of our spaces, including lobbies, locker rooms, pool deck, and classrooms, we do hope to increase the programs we can offer over the coming months. During the fall, we look forward to having more enrichment programs, and more opportunities to visit the pool or the fitness floor. While we are not out of it yet, and there may be more bumps along the road, but it is nice to see all of you and say “WELCOME BACK!” Sean McGrew Stay current on registration dates, special events and important announcements.
