Message from the Head Junior School Book Day World Book Day is a time of fun involving extravagant book char- acter costumes intertwined with the theme of reading. This year, due to the limitations with Covid, the Year 6 Leadership Club was tasked with the challenge of recreating World Book Day innovatively. To encourage regular reading, the Year 6 Leader- ship Club team planned 7 different activities set within the theme of books. The first activity of the afternoon was a ‘riddle quiz’ which involved riddles that were to be solved by each class and their Form Tutor. Another fun activity that took place was a ‘book cover’ competition in which the participants had to recre- ate the cover of a book they had enjoyed reading. Along with the face to face activities that happened outside, there were online activities that were planned on Zoom. This consisted of a ‘book blurb quiz’ and an ‘emoji book quiz.’ The next two events that took place were an exciting ‘treasure hunt’ and an enjoyable ‘draw the book character’ competition, with the prize of a sweet treat. Bringing out everyone's’ acting skills, there was a ‘charades’ ac- tivity which involved working in pairs and taking turns to act out a book charade. Due to time constraints, the ‘Town, Country, Book trivia quiz’ has been rescheduled. On behalf of the Year 6 Leadership Club, we would like to thank everyone who took part in the Hymers Book Day, making it a huge success and a thor- oughly enjoyable event. Helping Hands During March in Art and DT, the pupils have been making pictures and bunting to decorate the school gates as part of the 'Helping Hands' project by https://wemadethishull.wordpress.com/. The trail is around the city and many individuals and groups have joined in to make displays which thank the many people who have helped us through this pandemic. The pupils have been inspired to make some beautiful work and think about all the unsung heroes who have helped us all.
