News from Langrish Primary School Merry Christmas to all our families! What a busy term this has been! As I look back over the last three months, I can’t believe we have managed to squeeze so much into such a short amount of time. We have welcomed our Squirrels into our Langrish community and watching them on the stage this week, you just wouldn’t believe that they have only been with us for this term. They are a delightful, enthusiastic bunch of gorgeous children who have settled incredibly well into school. We have also welcomed new families into Year 5 and Year 1 and with Ollie joining us in Year 3 after Christmas, our school is full to capacity once again. The FoLS committee have already been busy raising money for the school and together with the Christmas fayre money, we have purchased the items below with the profits. Thank you so much to all of you for your generosity. Recently, you may have read many press articles about school funding, and although our bank account balances, it is this extra money from your kind selves that allows us to add to our surroundings. A new bookshelf for the Burrow, play panels for Squirrels and the Year 1 reading den We have also recently purchased resources as a result of being successful in our bid for an EHDC grant. The three wooden sheds are full of STEM resources which the children can design, make and play with after the holidays. The concrete base for the sheds is now complete and so we are ready to go! In addition, by the end of the holidays, every classroom will have a new carpet: here is Squirrel’s after their refit last weekend. But what about the changing rooms, I hear you cry? Well, the inside refurbishment is due to be signed off at the end of this week and below is a taster of what lies behind the door. The whole building is due to be clad with wooden cladding after Christmas and the doors and windows replaced, so we are very nearly there. Finally, all that remains for me to say, is a huge thank you to you all for your support and kind words this term. Our school would not be a such a success without everyone’s valued contribution and the whole team here would like to wish you a very restful, enjoyable Christmas and all the best for 2023. Best wishes, Mrs. Wright Page 1
News from Langrish Primary School Governor Update: The Governors have had a very busy term, visiting leaders in school to learn more about Science and Maths, completing safeguarding audits and ensuring that the school finances balance. In addition, I have received an application from Mrs. Wright to reduce her working pattern to three days a week from September 2023. This request has been approved. Miss Jones has successfully been appointed as the Headteacher for the other two days. I know that this strong partnership will ensure that the continuity of leadership of the school will remain in place as Miss Jones and Mrs Wright already work very closely together on many aspects of school life. On behalf of the Governing Body, I would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas, Mr. James Greenwood. Festive Fun Last week Mrs Riggs gathered all of her musicians together from across the school for a festive jam session. They had lots of fun putting together some Christmas numbers and playing in a bigger group than they are used to. Mrs Riggs captured some of their music for us, please click on the link to see what they got up to: Langrish Christmas Musicians.mp4 (dropbox.com) Pantomime Time Again! Thank you FoLS x Page 2
News from Langrish Primary School School Parliament School Council The School Council have had a busy half term finishing the child version of the Internet Usage Policy and of course, planning and running the fundraising events for Children in Need. The School Councillors looked at the Internet Usage Policy in detail and made quite a few changes in their meetings. They changed the wording into simpler terms to make it more accessible for all the children in school. They also added words to some sentences to make it clearer for the children to follow, for exam- ple adding the clarification ‘a trusted adult in school’ rather than simply stating the need ‘to ask for help’. The School Council then discussed these revisions in each class and more changes to the policy were made to reflect this. In their final review of the policy, articles from the UNCRC were added. To view the finished version, please visit the policies page on the school webpage: https://www.langrish.hants.sch.uk/policies Eco Council The Eco Council have been leading class discussions on how they can reduce water and paper waste in their classrooms. Feedback on the school blog suggests a range of simple initiatives from recycling bins and scrap paper trays to tap monitors and during Eco Council meetings the children have reported that each of their classes are working hard to reduce their waste. Eco Council are going to be working on a project next year promoting how much we reduce, reuse and re- cycle here at Langrish. The children are going to create a poster together which can be put up in our com- munity. We have also decided to create a video to share our ideas on how we are reducing, reusing and recycling. So, watch out for this next year! JRSO’s (Junior Road Safety Officers) The JRSO’s completed their two webinar training sessions with other schools across Hampshire this term. They discussed their role as a JRSO and thought about future projects to complete in school. The children will be planning an assembly and promoting ‘Be bright to be seen’ next year in school to pro- mote road safety. House Captains The House Captains have met this term to feed back on their houses ideas for competitions this year. The most popular suggestion was a STEM challenge using recycled materials that children will bring in from home. This first House Challenge of the year will take place in January. Page 3
News from Langrish Primary School School Parliament Play Leaders At Langrish we have Play Leaders from Year 5 and 6 who organise games during lunchtime break for our younger children in Squirrels, Year 1 and 2. For the Play Leaders, this is an opportunity to take on responsibility, plan, organise and lead others. For our younger children, it is a great way to enjoy playtime with a mixture of familiar and new games and a chance to get to know some of the older children at school. Our new Play Leaders from Year 5 are Riley, Georgia, Kayden, Phoebe, Poppy, Saffy, Wiktor, India, Emily, Yasmin, Lola and Lyra. Just before half term they completed a morning’s training at school with Mrs Galliers, our SGO. They have spent the last few weeks play leading alongside the outgoing Year 6 leaders ready to take over after Christmas, which they are really looking forward to. We would like to say a big thank you to our outgoing, Year 6 Play Leaders: Drew, Annabelle, Millie, Sasha, Flo, Sophia, Robyn, Rosie, Harry and Harrison, who have led games so enthusiastically this past year and who were so encouraging and kind to their young charges. EARA Following their meeting with other Hampshire schools earlier this term, our EARA group had been tasked with creating a mission statement and then planning an assembly to share this with the other Key Stage 2 pupils. They also wanted to ensure a shared understanding around what is meant by protected characteristics. After a few weeks hard work, they presented their assembly last week, providing a clear explanation and supporting the younger pupils through audience par- ticipation activities. Well done girls, we look forward to seeing the display you are now planning once it is ready! Langrish EARA Mission Statement As the Langrish EARA group, we are here to support you and to challenge injustice. Pupils can come talk to us about people disrespecting anyone’s rights, because you shouldn’t be worried about anyone discriminating you, article 2 . We are committed to representing our school in the best way possible. Page 4

News from Langrish Primary School The Infant’s Nativity Performance It’s been a few years since we’ve been able to do a ‘normal’ Nativity, but this year we were back with a bang with our ‘Boogie Woogie Nativity’. The story transports the audience back to Bethlehem, where an animal band, ‘The Stable Stompers,’ are practising for their big concert. Imagine their surprise when a choir of angels turn up to tell them that the baby Jesus will be born that night, right there in the stable! Who is this special baby? Will ‘The Stable Stompers’ still be able to perform their concert? And why are there suddenly kings and shepherds turning up at the stable too?! A fun musical take on the traditional Nativity story, the children thoroughly enjoyed learning the songs and presenting the play for the school, parents and families. Thanks to everybody who could come along to watch our wonderfully festive performance, as well as all the parents who helped provide costumes and practise the songs! DVDs of the Nativity performance are still available to order from the school office. Page 6

We learnt how to score through a layup, the rules of 3 vs 3, what constitutes a violation, defensive tech- niques and practised travelling whilst dribbling. With all of this new knowledge, we enjoyed putting our skills to the test at Perins where we played against teams from other schools.
