MEDIA PROTOCOL requirements Requirements: 1. Cloth face coverings are required on event premises at all times for your safety, as well as the safety of others. On-camera reporters are per your discretion, however we encourage you to maintain CDC recommended guidelines. 2. We encourage maintaining a six (6) foot social distance from all attendees, including athletes, coaches, spectators and staff. This practice should also be followed during face-to-face interviews. 3. Official press release World’s Largest Volleyball Event set to host 56,000 participants in Orlando, June 17-29 Premier AAU tournament anticipated to bring more than $173.2 million in economic impact to Central Florida during 12-day event; Nine teams ranked in top ten nationally. ORLANDO, Fla. (June 16, 2021) – The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is ready to host the world’s largest AAU Volleyball tournament on June 17-29, the 48th AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships at the award-winning Orange County Convention Center (OCCC). The stage is set for more than 3,445 teams, comprised of 56,000 participants from around the world, including several elite teams ranked across the nation. The 12-day event, June 17-29, features 40 boys’ and girls’ divisions ranging from ages 10 years old to 18 years old. The divisions will be set in waves starting with the 10-14 and under girls in the first wave (June 18-21), along with the 18U Open and Premier divisions. The second wave (June 22-25) will feature the 15U, 17U and Boys divisions, while the 16U and 18U Aspire and Classic will wrap up the tournament in Wave Three (June 26-29). The 48th AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships is expected to bring more than $173.2 million in economic impact to Central Florida with an estimated 14,000 coaches and 600 college coaches attending the largest volleyball event in the world. 171 courts will spread across all three concourses at the OCCC- North, South and West. This is set to be the largest sporting event ever to be held at the OCCC. “We look forward to this event every year as hands-down our largest event of the year, and we could not pull this off without the partnerships with the Orange County Convention Center and Visit Orlando,” said Jennings “Rusty” Buchanan, President/CEO of the AAU. “Central Florida is the premier vacation destination in the world and what better place to bring our athletes and families to give them the opportunity of a lifetime here in Orlando.” This top-notch event has been recognized over the years as a three-time winner of Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism Award, Best Single Amateur Sporting Event by Sports Travel Awards, as well as the Best Sporting Event by Connect Sports. The AAU Girls Junior National Volley- ball Championships 16U division also still holds the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest volleyball event, a feat AAU Volleyball first set in 2012. 2021 AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships ;. THE SCHEDULE IS TENTATIVE AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE. The complete schedule will be available through AES at www.advancedeventsystems.com and www.aauvolleyball.org approximately one week prior to the competition. The schedule below is to assist teams for planning purposes. Any schedule changes or rule updates will be posted online. Competition will be held at the Orange County Convention Center (Courts 1-171). Competition will be in the North, South and West A Halls from June 18-29. Entrances are located on both the North B Concourse, the South B Concourse and West Hall A Concourse. Please refer to the Parking Map for information on parking locations based on your court number. Pool Play will be conducted in waves during the first 3 days of competition. Teams will play in either an AM or PM wave. Typically, the AM wave will run from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the PM wave will run from 3:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., depending on the pool size. Some divisions will have challenge matches for teams in the Championship bracket on the last night of pool play. All teams advance to the fourth day of play for single elimination brackets. About the event All competition will be held at the Orange County Convention Center. COVID-19 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: In working with Orlando Health, the Orange County Convention Center, local and state officials, we have several protocols that will be in place throughout the event including the following: Spectators As capacity restrictions due to COVID-19 are being lifted, we will no longer be limiting the number of spectators at this year’s AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships. All spectator tickets must be purchased online. Spectators will be required to follow all protocols and guidelines, including wearing a face mask at all times. Team Personnel and Chaperones- Face Coverings– Each team can consist of 15 players, 5 bench personnel, and 2 chaperones. In addition, each match will have one referee. Teams will need to provide the down referee. All participants are encouraged to wear a face mask at all times. Exception: Athletes on the floor during warm-ups and competition will not be required to wear a face mask. A total of 171 courts will be used in more than 1 million square feet of convention center space. OCCC Disinfecting Procedures – Hand washing & Sanitizing With a strategic on-site preparedness plan, the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) is implementing rigorous cleaning and sanitation measures to enhance daily routines already in place to promote a clean and healthy environment. Additionally, the volleyballs will be disinfected between sessions. Additional hand sanitizer will be available throughout the facility, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own. Teams are encouraged to bring their own water. Water stations will not be provided this year. There will be cooler storage rooms outside the concourse. Coolers will not be permitted inside the competition hall. Watch Remotely BallerTV will be providing coverage to help ensure the safest possible viewing experience for athletes, parents, relatives, and the volleyball community. For BallerTV-related questions, email support@ballertv.com No Opening Ceremonies There will be no Opening Ceremony this year, but tickets for the Disney theme parks and the water parks will still be available online. OCCC is implementing its Recovery and Resiliency Guidelines and receiving its Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) Star accreditation on outbreak prevention, response and recovery. AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships Protocols Inside the Building: 1) Face Coverings/Masks • All participants (athletes, coaches, chaperones, officials, staff, etc.) must wear a face covering at all times. • Exception: Athletes on the floor during warm-ups and competition will not be required to wear a face mask. • Coaches and other bench personnel must remain wearing a face mask at all times including while on the team bench. • Athletes on the team bench must wear a face mask. When athletes come out of the game, they should clean their hands and then place their mask on while on the team bench. Hand sanitizer will be available by each court. • For CDC guidance on face coverings, please click here. 2) The courts have been spaced farther apart to increase walkways. A total of 171 courts will be used in approximately one million square feet. 3) Gift exchanges between teams are discouraged. 4) Teams should maintain social distancing on the team bench and during timeouts. 5) Chaperones watching the competition should not change sides during the match. 6) Chaperones, coaches and athletes should maintain six (6) feet of distance from other participants when not competing during a match. 7) Hand sanitizer is available throughout the facility. 8) Teams are encouraged to bring their own water. Water stations will not be provided this year. 8) Social distance signs and reminders will be placed throughout the facility. 10) Enhanced cleaning measures will take place. This includes sterilizing the courts each night and sterilizing the game balls between sessions. 11) OCCC is implementing its Recovery and Resiliency Guidelines and receiving its Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) Star accreditation on outbreak prevention, response and recovery. Teams must supply a rostered coach to serve as the second referee, in addition to a scorekeeper, scoreboard operator, libero tracker and line judges. AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships Protocols (con’t) 2021 AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships Protocols In conjunction with the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) and local authorities, the following protocols will be in place for the event. This information is subject to change. If you are sick and experiencing a fever or any symptoms listed below, you should not attend the event. Symptoms: shortness of breath, dry cough, sore throat, headache, runny nose or nasal congestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of sense of smell/taste, dizziness, muscle aches, general weakness, fever of 100 or more, chills, shaking, recent unprotected contact with a known positive COVID-19 patient. These protocols are subject to change. 1. Face Masks: Beginning June 5, 2021, Orange County (FL) has lifted its mask mandate for the county. Face masks are still encouraged to be worn by all attendees. 2. The capacity restrictions have been lifted so there is no longer a limit on the number of spectators. All spectator tickets must be purchased online. There will be no onsite cash sales, so buy your tickets online prior to arriving at the venue. Additional ticket information can be found on the event website. 3. To allow for social distancing, there will be designated entrances and exits. Entrances will be on the North B, South B and West A4 concourses. North A, South A and West A1-3 will be used as exits only. 4. The courts have been spaced farther apart to increase walkways and additional space at the Orange County Convention Center is being used. Courts 1 to 62 are located in the North Concourse (NA/NB). Courts 63 to 130 are located in the South Concourse (SA/SB). Courts 131 to 171 are located in the West Concourse (WA1-WA4). 5. Spectators will be allowed at each court where chairs are placed. Teams should maintain social distancing on the team bench and during timeouts. 8. Spectators, coaches and athletes should maintain social distance from other participants when not competing during a match. 9. Teams and spectators will not rotate sides of the court between sets. 10. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the facility, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own. 11. One referee will be provided. Teams must supply a rostered adult to serve as the second referee, in addition to a scorekeeper, scoreboard operator, libero tracker and line judges. Teams should bring their own pens and pencils for scorekeeping. 12. Volleyballs will be sanitized after each match. 13. Teams are encouraged to bring their own water. Water stations will not be provided this year. Teams may leave their coolers in the designated cooler storage areas. The AAU is not responsible for items left unattended. 14. Vendors will be limited to allow for social distancing. 15. If a member of your team or spectator has tested positive for COVID-19, or been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, CDC recommendations will be followed. 16. All participants and attendees will be required to submit a waiver and release as well as assume the risk of participation. 17. OCCC has implemented its Recovery and Resiliency Guidelines and received its Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) Star accreditation on outbreak prevention, response and recovery. Aau volleyball PROGRAM AAU VOLLEYBALL CARES: The AAU Cares about giving back to the communities and families that help host AAU licensed events each year. For the last three years, the AAU has partnered with the Side-Out Foundation during the AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships. Dig Pink days will take place on June 19, 23, and 29 during the 2021 AAU Volleyball Nationals. The Side-Out Foundation’s mission is to raise money towards stage IV breast cancer research. Each dig team’s completion during the Dig Pink campaign supports donations to Side-Out’s cutting-edge clinical research, adding precious time to lives of those living with stage IV breast cancer. During the 46th AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships, teams raised over $9,200.
