CONTACT INFO & PRESS RELEASE MEDIA CONTACT Andrea Arco-Mastromichalis Arco & Associates 636.527.9254 aarco@arcoandassociates.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The St. Louis Upscale Resale Queen Releases Rags-to-Riches Story in New Book: Good, Better, Best Sue McCarthy explores triumph over adversity, strong family bonds, and the most fabulous closets in the world St. Louis, MO – Sue McCarthy, star of the Style Network’s Resale Royalty and owner of The Vault Luxury Resale, one of the country’s finest upscale resale boutiques, has released her autobiography, Good, Better, Best. The incredible rags-to-riches story follows McCarthy’s life from her humble beginnings as a hungry, homeless child, to achieving acclaim as the nation’s upscale resale queen. A closet canvasser of celebrities and the founder of a multimillion-dollar resale empire known around the world for its abundance of Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, and more, McCarthy takes readers behind the scenes—and into the closets—of the world’s wealthiest and most stylish women. “After our TV show [Resale Royalty, produced by Rachel Zoe] ended, people wanted additional sneak peeks into the glamorous closets my daughters and I enter—it’s truly lady porn,” said McCarthy. “It’s like parting the curtain into a world about which they can only dream.” With her daughters, Laura and Diana, by her side every step of the way, McCarthy delights in the life she has designed for her family. While McCarthy is the business’s leader, Laura has gained acclaim as the family business’s chief curator and label savant—from the Upper East Side to Paris. Diana has also made her mark around the world planning inspired events, fashion shows, resale bus tours, VIP shopping, in-home trunk shows, and more, including book signings for fashion heavyweights like Fern Mallis, the founder of New York Fashion Week. McCarthy’s story didn’t begin with such glitz, however, as she relays through hilarious, irreverent tales of living in a New Orleans’ park as a child and styling hair for the deceased as a young beautician. A born innovator and self- starter, she worked hard to build an impeccable reputation and a resale empire—and as a result, has rubbed elbows with Rachel Zoe, Oprah, Heidi Klum, and more. “My book is really a story of an entrepreneurial woman who turned every obstacle into an opportunity, always strived to do the right thing, and beat all the odds,” said McCarthy. “I hope to inspire other entrepreneurs and show them what’s possible when you maintain a sense of humor and positive attitude.” Good, Better, Best is currently available for purchase at www.thegoodbetterbestbook.com and on Amazon. The official launch party will take place August 2 at McCarthy’s St. Louis boutique, The Vault Luxury Resale, located at 2325 South Brentwood Blvd. ### About the Author: Sue McCarthy is the founder and CEO of The Vault Luxury Resale, the star of the Style Network’s reality series Resale Royalty, and author of the autobiography, Good, Better, Best. AUTHOR BIOS Short Bio: Sue McCarthy is the founder and CEO of The Vault Luxury Resale, a multimillion-dollar resale boutique in St. Louis. She was the star of Resale Royalty, a popular reality TV show series produced by celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe that aired on the Style Network in 2013. Long Bio: Sue McCarthy is the founder and CEO of The Vault Luxury Resale, the star of the Style Network’s reality series Resale Royalty, and author of the autobiography, Good, Better, Best. Her rags-to-riches story is one of an entrepreneurial woman who turned every obstacle into an opportunity, strived to do the right thing, and beat all the odds—all while maintaining a sense of humor and positive attitude. Prior to gaining acclaim as the nation’s upscale resale queen, McCarthy founded a painting company called A Woman’s Touch in 1972. Her business model was unique—she only hired women—and it achieved immediate success in Saint Louis, Missouri. After 18 years in the painting business, McCarthy discovered a new opportunity in the world of consignment. She established her first store, Women’s Closet Exchange, in 1991 and soon pioneered the upscale resale business model in which items are purchased outright rather than consigned from sellers. This represented a major shift from the traditional consignment business model and attracted buyers and sellers from around the globe—including Hollywood’s elite. In 2013, McCarthy’s reputation as the resale queen garnered attention from celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe who produced a hit reality series, Resale Royalty, in which McCarthy and her daughters starred. The Style Network series followed the family through high-end fashion events, awe-inspiring closets, and the highs and lows of running—and trying to grow—a demanding business. Today, McCarthy and her daughters own and operate The Vault Luxury Resale, one of the world’s premier upscale resale boutiques, located in St. Louis. Because of her business acumen and knack for innovation, McCarthy is a frequent guest speaker at the annual conference of NARTS (National Association of Resale Professionals) and has served as both vice president and board member. An outspoken advocate of entrepreneurialism and women-owned businesses, McCarthy has been and continues to be a role model for others—including her own daughters, who have chosen to follow in her footsteps. She believes that with business success comes a level of social responsibility, and actively embraces the philosophy of “paying it forward” by contributing to a variety of charitable organizations. She is the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award and is recognized by the Small Business Association (SBA) as an expert in the field of resale. “I went from being poor, defenseless, and subject to the whims of others to being my own boss.... And it never would have happened if that jerk hadn’t chased me around a dead body.” 5
AUTHOR INTERVIEW What is your book about in one sentence? Good, Better, Best is a rags-to-riches story about entrepreneurial women who turn every obstacle into an opportunity, rise above the norm, strive to do the right thing, and come out successful, all while maintaining a sense of humor and positive attitude. Why did you write this book? After our TV show (Resale Royalty on the Style Network) ended, people wanted additional sneak peaks into the glam closets we enter—these closets are truly lady porn. Our book is literally like parting a curtain into a world about which they can only dream. I love giving people the opportunity to see that—and inspiring them with my personal rags-to-riches story. What is your favorite childhood memory? In 1951, when I was four years old (and still didn’t have a name—I didn’t have one until I was 5!), my dad decided to move the family to New Orleans in hopes of finding work on the oil rig. We arrived with no money, nowhere to live, and no job (turns out, the jobs were not as plentiful as he had heard). He settled us in a big, beautiful park until he was able to make enough to rent an apartment. I remember thinking it was absolutely magical; that first day, we had a ball playing with the neighborhood kids. But when darkness fell, I got nervous and said to my mother, “Mom, all the kids are going home. Where are we going to sleep tonight?” She replied, “They all have to go home, but we are lucky. We get to stay here all night long. And we’ll be the first ones on the swings in the morning.” And just like that she set the theme and the tone for the rest of my life. She shifted my perspective from focusing on the negative to seeing the very best in every situation. She taught me to change my view, to shift my thinking, to always look for the positive, and to keep my energy and spirits up. Bloom where you’re planted—that is one of the secrets to my success. What is your favorite recent memory? The travels that we’re able to do are just unbeatable. Last June, we were doing closet buys in Switzerland and had the opportunity to go to the top of the Matterhorn Mountain in Zermatt. It was the best feeling—we were at the top of the mountain literally and metaphorically in our lives. Meeting Oprah was pretty incredible, as well! What do you hope readers and fans get out of this book? I hope they will think they can do it, too. That if they want it bad enough, and they visualize it long enough, it will happen. One of my favorite stories to tell, which actually isn’t in the book, is that I had a rollaway bed when I was a kid. Since I didn’t have my own room with walls, I would only fold down one half of the bed, so I could decorate the other half. I would hang pictures of happy families, beautiful homes, glamorous clothes…I was creating a vision board before I even knew what one was. I stared at those things that I so desperately longed for every day, and sure enough, they have all come to pass. You gained a following through your reality show on the Style Network (Resale Royalty)...how have those fans embraced you as an author? I’m so proud that we were able to remain honorable and respectful throughout the show. We didn’t sell ourselves to fame by lowering our standards, and that’s what our followers loved about us. I’m hoping the book resonates in the same way. It’s authentic and colorful, but full of integrity. We spill some stories about some of the most luxurious and interesting closets we’ve been in, but we never give away a client’s name no matter how famous she may be. What quote defines you as a person? My dad’s motto, the motto that was drummed into my head constantly as a child, was, “Good, better, best. Never let it rest until the good is the better and the better is the best.” That motto would come to define my working ethos later in life. They are the words I lived by—and still do. 6
