PRELUDE Le Banquet Celeste (Heavenly Banquet) Dr. Julia Brown, by Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) Organist Messiaen is one of the great mystics of the 20th century. His meditation on the Last Supper moves at an extremely slow pace, allowing us space for contemplation, introspection and a sense of time standing still. NEWS OF THE CHURCH Rachael Cooley, Director of Outreach and Family Ministires MOMENT FOR MUSIC Dr. Brown INTROIT The Lord is Here Chancel Choir by R. Artman The Lord is here in the beauty of the morning; O, may we bow our hearts before God. Amen. ANTHEM Be Still and Know Carol Choir by Blanche Douglas Byles Be still and know that I am God. Up into a mountain, I went apart to pray. Carefully I worded all I meant to say. But the green, still silence of fern and forest tree taught my soul to listen and let God speak to me. CHILDREN’S MESSAGE Corbin DeVilbiss, Life Scout, becoming an Eagle Scout HYMN #47* Great Is Thy Faithfulness SCRIPTURE READING 1 Peter 1:3-9 Corbin DeVilbiss, PEW BIBLE, PAGE 857 Lay Reader Leader: The Word of the Lord. MUSIC FOR REFLECTION CALL TO OFFERING Rachael Cooley OFFERTORY ANTHEM Blessed be the God and Father Chancel Choir by Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1810-1876) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy, hath begotten us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance in corruptible and undefiled, that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God, through faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time. But as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation. Pass the time of your sojourning here in fear. Love one another with a pure heart fervently. Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God. For all flesh is as grass and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away. But the word of the Lord endureth forever, Amen. DOXOLOGY* Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION Invitation to Communion The Great Thanksgiving
Apostles’ Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
