May 2020 Joining Jesus to Multiply our Ministry Join Our Strategic Plan and Implementation Timeline 2020-2022
May 20, 2020 Dear Valued Member of the Holy Cross Community, Holy Cross Lutheran Church (HC) exists as a congregation and school committed to “equipping and sending God’s people to make a Christ-like difference in the world.” Indeed, since its founding in 1946, HC changes lives. We do so with a joy-filled, gospel-focused understanding of God and our world coupled with a love for helping people see our great God at work in their everyday lives. We approach our 75th year of existence with a strategic plan for Joining Jesus to Multiply Our Ministry. The following pages overview the foundational “bold steps” for 2020-2022 that will position us for even bolder steps in the near future. God’s Word offers a path for us to travel: Enlarge the place of your tent . . . do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes. (Isaiah 54:7) In other words, God calls us to grow both bigger (“lengthen your cords”) and better (“strengthen your stakes”). By God’s grace, growing better will position us for bigger opportunities to serve our great God. Joining Jesus to Multiply Our Ministry provides a framework for action, alignment with our ends (i.e. unique purpose and impact), and accountability. We are most grateful to Sandra Herron of MiddlEdge for orchestrating the strategic planning process. God has used her to give us our “marching orders!” My Senior Leadership Team and I pray that we all grow as people of God in whom the Holy Spirit creates a deep hunger to make a Christ-like difference (lengthen your cords) even as the Holy Spirit deepens our journey with Jesus through the eternal Word of God and the life-giving Sacraments (strengthen your stakes). God’s richest blessings be with you and your love ones as together we join Jesus to lengthen the cords and strengthen the stakes. Let the journey begin! Rev. Thomas R. Ahlersmeyer, Ph.D. Senior Pastor 1
Our Mission and Ends Why do we exist? The mission of Holy Cross Lutheran Church is equipping and sending God’s people to make a Christ-like difference in the world. Our desired ends: 1. Believers connected with Holy Cross find a supportive and uplifting community and grow towards becoming fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ. 2. People in surrounding communities who are currently not believers in Jesus Christ connect with Him and the Holy Cross community. 3. People in select communities in the world who are currently not believers in Jesus Christ experience new life in Him. 4. Students of our school succeed at subsequent stages in their lives and vocations as disciples of Jesus Christ. Our Vision What are we creating? We are people transformed by the Gospel, following Jesus for life across neighborhoods and generations. Our Values We believe in one true God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- as revealed in Scripture and witnessed to by the Lutheran Confessions. Joining Jesus on His Mission compels us to live out this belief as disciples who are . . . Servant-hearted Deeply caring Lifelong learners Hope-filled Entrepreneurial 2
