Welcome Kristin Leslie Education and Support Group Manager I am very excited to be joining the team at MNDAWA. I am a nurse and was employed as a clinical educator with My Flex Health International before accepting the role with MNDAWA. My husband and I moved to Perth about seven years ago from Orange, NSW where I worked as a Care Assessor. I have had an interest in neurology since working as an MS nurse in NZ some years ago. I have three married sons and four beautiful grandchildren (and another due in August!). My new colleagues here at MNDAWA have been so friendly and helpful. I am looking forward to meeting the members and friends of the Association over the coming weeks. I am sure that I will enjoy my role as Education and Support Group Manager and working with the MNDAWA team. Pamper Day Due to concerns about COVID-19 (more commonly known as Coronavirus), we made the difficult decision to cancel the Pamper Day on 28 March 2020. We have also made the decision to cancel the Pamper Day scheduled for 18 July 2020. We were extremely disappointed to have had to take these steps – we know how important the support network is for people affected by MND. MNDAWA takes the health and wellbeing of our members and the wider community very seriously. In this heightened phase of COVID-19, we felt it appropriate to take steps to ensure we protect this wherever we can. MNDAWA didn’t taken this decision lightly and we share the disappointment that we know was felt by everyone involved. We look forward to seeing you all at our next Pamper Day, on Saturday 17 October 2020. Containers for Change Containers for Change is Western Australia’s new container deposit scheme. Containers for Change will provide a 10 cent refund for each eligible container returned for recycling at an approved Containers for Change Refund Point, encouraging recycling and creating a cleaner WA for everyone. Containers for Change commences on Tuesday 2 June 2020, following the WA Day long weekend. Customers return their eligible containers to a Containers for Change Refund Point for a 10 cent refund. Containers can be returned by individuals or organisations, and any number of containers can be returned at one time, providing the given Refund Point has the capacity to accept them. Containers for Change will operate statewide. Over 170 Refund Points across WA will be open for business on Tuesday 2 June 2020. From 2 June 2020 you will be able to check for an authorised Containers for Change Refund Point near you at www.containersforchange.com.au The scheme targets beverage containers most commonly seen as litter. The types of beverage containers covered in the scheme include plastic and glass bottles, paper-board cartons, and steel and aluminium cans between 150 millilitres and three litres. Examples of eligible beverage containers in the scheme include: soft drink cans and bottles; bottled waters – both plastic and glass; small flavoured milk drinks; beer and cider cans and bottles; and sports drinks and spirit-based mixed drinks. Donate your containers When you take your containers to an over-the-counter depot, drop-off, RVM, mobile or pop-up site, simply use the Scheme ID of the charity or group you wish to donate to and the value of your refund will be transferred to them. You can elect to donate your refund to The Motor Neurone Disease Association of WA by using our Scheme ID C10242959 at the refund point and the 10 cent refund for your eligible containers will be donated to us. 20 - MND MATTERS Volume 9 Issue 1 MND MATTERS Volume 9 Issue 1 - 21
