History Pin Have you ever looked at your surroundings and wondered, “What did this building or street corner look like a hundred years ago?” Well, wonder no more! The Craigleith Heritage Depot is now on Historypin.org, a website that allows you to pin photographs (both old and new), videos and audio recordings to a gigantic Google map of the world! You can now experience how familiar environments have changed over time in front of you. To explore please visit our “Virtual Museum” on the BMPL website for a direct link to our Historypin collections under ‘Resources’. The basic engine of the site is Google Maps and a simple interface lets you pin images to relevant places on the map, and attach captions, stories and descriptions as well. With the help of Street View, historic photos can be superimposed Historypin: Henry Pedwell Home (Errinrung Retirement Community) on what you see now using a slider on the site. A number of Collections have been included on the Depot’s Historypin site including Craigleith, Clarksburg and Thornbury as well as the “Building History” videos. If you have photos that you would like to include, you can upload them once you register on the site. In February the two newest films in our REEL History series were released to over 1,500 participants across the globe. Thank you to all our community members that showed up to support the launch of these films. If you missed this event, our recorded launch is available on our YouTube Channel. International Women's Day REEL History: Niagara Escarpment and Fossils The Craigleith Heritage Depot presents International Women’s Day with Paralympian Erin Latimer and Olympian Larisa Yurkiw. Both athletes competed in the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games in Russia as Alpine Skiers. This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is Courage and Leadership.
