Mango Hill Editor: Laurence Christie 3204-2020 Est: 1986 News admin@mangohillprogress.org www.mangohillprogress.org Issue No. 274 – FEBRUARY 2019 Call for Lamington Rd Connection to Anzac Ave With the population of the Village rapidly expanding through town house developments and the number of vehicles using Kinsellas Road West increasing by degree, the need for the Lamington Road to Anzac Ave connection as an alternate entry off Anzac Ave, is fast becoming more critical with decisions needing to be fast-tracked. What is known, is that over 300 Townhouse Units have been added or are currently under construction in the western corridor of the Village in the past two years. A further 375 units are either approved or under consideration for vacant land along Kinsellas Road West or Lamington Road. A Moreton Bay Regional Council Spokesperson has advised the Progress Association that “A decision on what Agency (Developer or Council) will construct this connection remains under consideration.” The Progress Association remains in contact with Officers of Council and the Developer, Philip Usher Constructions and will update the community when a decision is made. This connection will also cater for the proposed 233 Household Development by the Philip Usher Constructions along Lamington Road. Traffic Safety Concerns for Village Roundabout Drivers along Kinsellas Road West are urged to slow down as they approach the two (2) closely located Roundabouts on Kinsellas Road West. Residents are advised that Traffic Police have been actively monitoring Kinsellas Road West in recent weeks. Drivers are urged to give more consideration to their fellow drivers when accessing roundabouts by: 1. Slowing down as they approach Roundabouts 2. Giving plenty of warning by use of “Indicators” as they approach each roundabout. At its February meeting on Wednesday night, the Association will consider a range of recommendations on Speed Zones for Village Streets and Kinsellas Road West that will be forwarded to State and Local Governments. 1

Congratulations to Mary Street residents, Aline and Michael Clince, who celebrated both their Wedding and Reception at the Mango Hill Community Centre on 19th January. (From Aline) We have been living in Mango Hill for just over 3 years now and we are enjoying the great country vibe around the area. It is great to have community Centre very close to our place that it worked out so well for us to be able to get married just 200 meters away from home. The facilities and all the amenities are so helpful to the neighbourhood. We really had a wonderful and memorable wedding that we can treasure forever. Since 1986, the Progress Association has operated with the core aim of “seeking to enhance the quality of life” for the Residents of our Community” through the broad principles of “God Helps those who Help Themselves” and “Maintaining Eternal Vigilance”. During that time our Association has sought to work with other community organizations and advocate to all levels of Government and Business. In short, our Association can only be as effective as the range of committed volunteers who can provide time, effort and ideas to continue our work of the past 33 years. Greater Speeds allow Progress Association Admin to Operate! For nearly 400 homes in the Old Mango Hill Village, the NBN became active in early February 2018, greatly increasing the capacity of households to either gain access to the internet in the first place or to access faster connections. Since 2009, the Progress Association actively advocated for the NBN (or its predecessor) to be connected to the Village. It took time. Yes, our Politicians are often criticised for in-action. In this case, it is “Well done to our Federal Member, Luke Howarth and NBN General Manager, Ryan Williams” (who spoke at our November 2012 meeting) for delivering this promise. It should be noted that many areas are still awaiting connection to the NBN. Mango Hill is well ahead of many of the “more established” areas of Brisbane. Hopefully, your experience with the NBN has been positive. Note: Later in the 2019, (or 18 months after the NBN has been connected to households, many of the older “Landline” connections may be under review as the “digital” age approaches. AFTER HOURS JUSTICE OF THE PEACE To find a “JP” in your community, go onto the Web. 1. Type in: “Mango Hill” (or your suburb) - Type in: “4509” (or your postcode) 3. Hit “Search”. A list of JP’s in your area will pop up on screen. Phone Numbers are displayed and you can call and request an appointment. From myself: I am prepared to do House Calls FOR SENIORS should they be without transport.
