1st African Forum on Urban Forests (5-9 July 2021) Management project of the urban forest of the Archbisphoric “Sanyet l’Anâb” in the city of Tunis Sondes Fkiri, Jamel Eddine Zayati, Abdelhamid Khaldi
BACKGROUND ❑ Dating back over a century, the oldest forest plantations in Tunisia were used to protect coastal dunes in northeastern Tunisia. Some plantations outside forests are 80 years old. Arboriculture and more particularly olive growing often date from Roman times. ❑The most of the forest plantations and trees outside forests were carried out after 1956.
➢ In Tunisia, people living in rural areas continue to migrate to the cities. This rural exodus, which is manifested by an urbanization rate of 67.8% in Tunisia, has led to the creation of urban agglomerations whose number of inhabitants exceeds the national average.
OBJECTIF ❑ The management of urban and peri-urban forests is an undeniable solution to counter the destruction of these spaces. This type of management makes it possible to contribute to: ➢The improvement of the quality of life of citizens ➢ The creation jobs linked to recreational services in UPF (green economy)
