Fun, Food and Friendship Party Plan in 2020/21 Kerry, Deb & Karin Emma Chatting with Deb Wylie & Karin Haevecker recently, we reminisced about I’m 25, from Colac Victoria. I currently live with my family in town. I work full the 1990s and the peak of Party Plan sales. All three of us had signed up time for a dairy genetic company called Hico, my main role is Herd testing/ as demonstrators of something over the years as well as being hostesses recording. I decided when COVID started that I need to do something to and guests at in-home demonstrations. Deb and Karin reflected how these fill in time. I tried to start a few things, but I got bored too quickly, then were great social occasions where you’d meet new people (the idea was Tupperware became my love. always to encourage your family and friends to bring along a friend to the I’ve been a Tupperware consultant since the end of October 2020 and party which helped widen the reach). like that it is flexible and rewarding. The online parties work by me setting up a group page and the person hosting adds their friends to the page. The page stays open for 2 weeks during which time I add demo videos, party games, sales and even give out rewards. On the actual chosen party date/time, I do a live half hour video to show off some products just like a in home party. Best thing is you can see me, but I can’t see you sitting back in your PJs with a glass of wine or a coffee. Tupperware posts Australia wide so if you have friends from a different state, they can also buy products through your party. I’m keen to try a in home party and work on improving myself with the small business. If anyone is interested in Tupperware or would like to join my Facebook page with heaps of specials, feel free to invite yourself to this page: Emma’s Tupperware V.I.P. Page. Back in 1991 Kerry was a Learner’s World Consultant and quickly built up a team of demonstrators to become a Manager. It was exciting to be in the top 10 sellers for Victoria (Kerry is pictured in the red and white dress on the left at the trophy presentation held in Melbourne). The favourites were Michael Salmon’s “Who’s behind the door?” by email or by post series and Stephen Cosgrove & Robin James’ Serendipity Book series. The Serendipity books each had an animal character and a moral to the story. High Tea Anyone (a reader’s short story) Abandoning the idea of a walk along the beach, we opted to shelter indoors at a swish-looking café by the sea, advertising High Tea for a somewhat astronomical price. There was a saying, “You get what you pay for” and if the exquisitely dec- orated café was any indication, it was worth quite a bit. The staff were immaculately groomed wearing demur black -shoes, stockings, skirts and tops all black with a brightly coloured yellow full-apron over the top (match- ing the vibrant yellow walls of the café). A three-tiered delicate cake plate filled to the brim with sweet and savoury treats was delivered to the table complete with our choice of teas (from over 20 varieties!). The table which had the birds-eye view of the ocean right near the window had an older couple who’d obviously been there a lot longer than us. As we sat and started to enjoy the flavours of the high tea treats, we noticed the other couple had barely touched their food. They seemed engrossed in each other’s company. We wondered – had they just met? Perhaps they’d sought each other out on one of those online dating sites and this was their “first date”? The gentleman was well groomed – he looked like a retired grazier with an air of high society about his mannerisms. The lady was more casually dressed (particularly if it was her first rendezvous!). She was wearing comfortable flat shoes with jeans and a plain shirt – perhaps they’d been planning a walk along the beach too? Tentatively they each took a little something from the cake plate – unlike many couples who’ve been together for some time and who mirror each other’s actions, they took different things to sample. It was then we noticed he was wearing a wedding ring but she wasn’t... Maybe he was recently widowed? Or could they be a long-lost brother and sister or cousins who hadn’t seen each other for some time? It started out as a cold, windy afternoon that quickly progressed into a I wanted to wait until they were leaving to see if they left in the same car pelting, ferocious thunderstorm. Lightning flashed through the sky lighting together or to get a hint of what their relationship might be. Alas, our tea up the threatening dark clouds which had almost blocked out the sun com- and treats were finished way too soon and it was time to face the wet pletely, despite the fact it was only 2pm. Heavy rain lashed the ground, and weather outside. I guess we’ll never know.................. the windscreen wipers couldn’t keep up. Time to Explore Maldon Kerry If you’d like to step back in time a little, you can take a drive for just over ½ an hour from Bendigo to Maldon – it’s just under 40 kms away. It is a township rich in gold history and quite a few trails and place to explore. There are some beautiful old homes, solid stone buildings and decorative shop fronts. There are cafes, galleries and antique shops to enjoy. The Union Hill Gold Mine commenced in 1854 and by the turn of the century about 250,000 ounces of gold had been mined. An open cut mine was operating on the site between 1988 and 1992 – 2.5 million tonnes of rock was mined! This yielded 55,000 ounces of gold (valued at the time in excess of $25 million). There is a viewing platform at the mine site. You can also explore the Beehive Gold Mine site where the Beehive Mine Chimney stands tall despite the top 2 metres being removed after a lightning strike in 1923. The chimney was built in 1863 and is 30 metres high – the only one of its age and height still standing in Victoria. There are also remnants of stone and brick structures for the boilers and steam engine that provided power for the mine (which was closed in 1911). The Railway Station (built in 1884) is well worth a visit. You can drive up to Mt Tarrangower to get a 360∞ view of the region from the lookout tow- er. Mt. Tarrangower tower was opened on 26th January, 1924 – it was made using the poppet head from the Comet Mine in Bendigo and was transported to Maldon by train. The legs of the tower were transported up the mountain on a horse-drawn jinker – no mean feat! The Maldon website has lots of information about other attractions, events, accommodation, shop- ping, etc. https://www.maldon.org.au/ 6
