WELCOME FROM THE FESTIVAL THE TEAM We are privileged this year to have the honour of introducing the 37th consecutive Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival and extending a hearty welcome to you all. As well as this program we will also publish our 2nd edition of the Llandrindod Chronicle. We also have an information office where you will find additional information of what is happening in the town. Putting the Festival together would not be possible without the support of those who help us financially and also the people and organisations behind the scenes who help us with their time on the run up to and during the Festival. Hopefully with the help of our website which has had thousands of views, you will have your costumes packed and be ready for a fantastic seven days Festival. ELSEWHERE IN TOWN HOLY TRINITY CHURCH HOLY TRINITY CHURCH OUR VICTORIAN BENEFACTORS 18TH TO 27TH AUGUST MONDAY-SATURDAY 10.00AM TO 5.00PM SUNDAY 2.00PM-5.00PM Victorian superstars drove much of what we take for granted today. From public health to education; from social justice to equal rights. So much was relentlessly promoted, and often paid for by just a handful of people. Some are still household names, but some, shamefully, have been forgotten. This year, the Holy Trinity Church exhibition will celebrate these people and what they achieved – for us. Enjoy the authentic atmosphere of our Famous Café in Holy Trinity Church. Frequented by performers and visitors alike, there is always a buzzing vibe. And the homemade food is good too!

EVENING EVENTS TRULY YOURS - CB Determined, brilliant and romantic, Charlotte tells her story of passion and duty, triumph and tragedy, and above all - love. Devoted to her strange and unworldly family, Charlotte Brontë was also wildly ambitious. Whilst remaining a self-effacing and dutiful daughter, abiding by all the restrictions of early Victorian life, she managed the incredible feat of becoming a hugely famous novelist. The instant success of Jane Eyre, Shirley and Villette found her mixing with the literary giants of the age. The joy of literary success was tempered by the scandalous fall of her brother Branwell, and a succession of family disasters. Charlotte's own life, however, had an extraordinary, happy twist at the end. The Brontë family's story has captivated the imagination for a century and a half. Alison Neil's portrayal of the life of Charlotte Brontë - using many of Charlotte's own words - provides an exceptional theatrical treat. ACT ONE running time: 48 minutes Interval ACT TWO running time: 58 minutes ******

A BIG THANK YOU FROM THE FESTIVAL DIRECTOR The 37th Victorian Festival could not happen without grants, sponsorship and assistance and I would like to thank the following. Powys County Council – Llandrindod Wells Town Council – Friends of the Festival – 100 Club subscribers – Joyce Walker & Colin Major – Janet Swindale – Dickens Wine Bar – David Hawes – The Blakemore Foundation – Fabians Kitchen – Holy Trinity Church – Fawzi Al Musallam and hopefully the many people making donations and contributions that we will receive over the seven days of the festival in particular the Firework Display and Torchlight Procession on the Sunday evening which is free of charge and probably the best in Wales. My thanks also to Justin and Adele at the Metropole Hotel; Andrea, Murdock and Tony at Hotel Commodore and Jase and Helen at the Pavilion. With a special thanks to the Friends committee and finally my heartfelt thanks to my great management team in Llandrindod Wells a great bunch of free spirited people who always rise to the occasion. Festivals like ours with the lack of funds and grants are dying around the country, we all need to join together to ensure that the festival never dies; Llandrindod Wells is a Victorian town and we must keep this Victorian Week special, tourism is the heart and soul of our beloved town and long may it be so.
