pre-primary Events and Celebrations in Detail School Reopens on - 17th June - LKG & UKG 19th June - Nursery My school is all about Smiling and Shining... It will be heartening to listen to the clamour in the school once again. Children will be welcomed by cartoon characters and will be given balloons and chocolates. They should come to school in complete School Uniform. Teachers will make children comfortable with music, dance, play and other activities. Since it is the first day of school, children can be picked early by the parents (if Own Transport is opted for). 28th June: Fun 'n' Frolic Day We take our Fun seriously... ‘Fun 'n' Frolic Day' will be held in the school campus for the entertainment of children so that they are comfortable and develop fondness to come to school. They can come in colour dress. They need not carry books. Only a water bottle, napkin, lunch box and the Diary should be sent with them. Their favourite cartoon characters will be dancing with them on this day and teachers will entertain children by organizing various games. They will be encouraged to share lunch with their classmates. 13th July: House Visits Parent + Teacher = Happy Child At Slate, we understand that mere teaching in the class is not the end of teaching, but observing and understanding children in their personal space (i.e., home) goes a long way into moulding them better. ! It is a convention at Slate that every year we visit the homes of the students. ! This helps us understand the child better in his/her home environment. ! Details pertaining to the approximate time of the visit and any other will be intimated through the Student's Diary. 16th-19th July: RACE - Recognise... Appreciate Colours and Enjoy... Filling our pallette called The World... Colours make the world beautiful. We will bring the rainbow down, in the school premises by celebrating the 'RACE'. During this week, please dress your ward in the specific colour given for that particular day. Children can get articles / things of that particular colour. For ex: on Red Day, children may get an apple, a tomato, strawberries, etc. The other articles and objects of that colour will be shown to children by teachers. This will reinforce the concept of colours in them. There are other activities planned to help children be perfect with the concept of colours. For the first four days, activities which will help children identify colors will be conducted in the school itself. On the final day of RACE, children will be taken to 'Municipal Park', for their first Field Trip. On the field trip day too, different activities are conducted for children to enable them to recognise, appreciate and enjoy the world of colours. 145

Please note that in case the children do not have a dress of a particular colour, they can come in the regular uniform. Parents need not purchase a new dress (of the colour specified). ! Children should bring books between 16th and 19th July. 20th July: Children will be taken on a Field Trip to Municipal Park. Please note the following points about the Field Trip: ! The vans will leave sharp at 8.40 am from the school. ! Children who come by Own Transport should be dropped by 8.30 am at the school. ! Children need not carry books. ! Children should carry snacks, water bottle and a napkin in a labeled bag. ! The vans may be delayed by half an hour or so in the afternoon. ! NO JUNK FOOD or POLYTHENE BAGS WILL BE ALLOWED. 2nd August: SREE - Social Roles - Enact and Empathize Social responsibility has to be seeded among children right from a tender age. Children must identify themselves with the variant roles played in the society around them and also learn to ‘empathise’ with people around them (in their own way). Please note the details pertaining to the Programme: Children are encouraged to identify themselves with a role in their immediate surroundings (i.e. Parents, Grand Parents, Older Siblings, Teacher, etc.) or with those people who are not a direct part in their lives but make a difference in the community at large. Children can choose a social role of their choice, they can come dressed and can enact like the role/character they chose and speak few sentences about it. The criterion for judging would be self confidence, presentation of ideas and lastly their attire. Exact information will be intimated through the Student's Diary. Note: ! Parents are requested to dress their children at home and send them to school. ! Participation is not compulsory. However, we encourage maximum participation. ! In case the children do not have any particular dress, they can come in school uniform. 146

Children coming by Own Transport should reach school before 8.40 am. ! Children need not bring books to school. ! Parents too can visit the school during school hours on these days. ! Parents are requested to furnish the details of their children participating in the Programme to the respective Class Teachers well in advance so as to facilitate us to conduct the competition smoothly. ! The departure of vans may be delayed by half an hour or so in the afternoon. 3rd August: Investiture Ceremony Little Leaders in the Lead... The seniors in Pre-Primary i.e., students of UKG will be part of the school cabinet. They will receive badges and sachets and march past in perfect rhyme and rhythm with the head boy and the head girl leading the cabinet from the front. 15th August: Independence Day Celebrations (9.00 am to 10.00 am) Child need not carry the books. Interested parents can bring the child for the flag hoisting. Transport facility will not be provided on this day. 22nd August: Sampoornatha-I A peep into our better selves... By this time, children get settled at school and are ready to participate in their first set of competitions. The above activities will help the children face audience and will foster in them a positive competitive spirit. It will help in boosting their confidence levels. ! Details on how the programme will be conducted are given under ‘Policies’ in this Book. ! Children should bring their books since regular academics too will be taken up. Since, Nursery children may need some more time to settle down, the competitions for them are scheduled a little later. 4th - 6th September: HALL - Health Awareness for Long Life Our Health in our Hands... Learning never stops at Slate… And, this time, it's a lesson on good health via HALL - Health Awareness for Long Life i.e., Health Days. Teachers will encourage children to take a balanced diet and avoid Junk food as a part of healthy eating. The correct way to use a spoon and a fork will also be demonstrated. They are also told about the harmful effects of using smart phones. 147

Sound Mind The little ones will be taken for an outing to trot their feet and enjoy a stroll amidst nature, besides encouraging them to bring, share and talk about the importance of healthy food, happy eating and a Balanced Diet. Please note the following points: ! The vans will leave sharp at 8.40 am from the school. ! Children coming by Own Transport should be dropped at the school before 8.30 am Children should come dressed in Sports Uniform. If, for any reason Sports Uniform is unavailable, kindly send the child in School Uniform (cream and green). 9th September: Last day for completion of Term-I Syllabus 11th to 19th September: Revision for Term-I Proper revisions will be done prior the exams. Surprise Tests will also be conducted during this period. Thorough oral drilling and written practice is given. Children should be regular to school during this period. Time Table and Practice Papers will be sent across to help children revise at home. 20th September - 26th September: Term-I Examinations During exams, teachers will read out questions to children, make them understand and write. If any mistake is committed, they will caution them and ensure that the children have attempted all the questions. 10th October: School reopens after Dussehra Vacation 19th October: Slate Family Fest [1.00 pm to 3:00 pm) Parents can meet the teachers and collect the Progress Cards, apart from being a part of Slate Family Fest. For details, please refer to Slate Family Fest given in this book. 25th October: GHAR (Grandparents - Honour, Admire, Respect) and Diwali Celebrations Grand Parents are the ones who shower their blessings and unlimited love on their little ones. They are the ones who always guide their grandchildren with their experiences. Tiny Slaters will be inviting their grandparents for the GHAR Programme from 9.00 am at School premises. The grandparents can interact with the other children, tell them stories and recite rhymes, meet the teachers and go around their grandchildren's school. Children and teachers will be presenting a cultural programme and also a few fun activities will be organized for the grandparents. 148

They can come to school in traditional dress, i.e., Boys: Kurta Pyjama, Girls: Ghaghra Choli ! In case, children do not have the above dress, they can come in School Uniform (Western dress like jeans, T-shirts, frocks, shirts, etc., are not allowed). ! They need not carry books. ! The departure of vans may be delayed by half an hour or so in the afternoon owing to the celebrations. 9th November: Annual Day Celebrations Lights... Camera... Action... Our Annual Day will showcase the versatility of our children. The tiny tots will conquer the stage and cast a spell on the audience. A detailed circular with regard to the Annual Day programme, the timings, the transport arrangements etc., will be issued to the children much in advance. 14th November: Children’s Day Celebrations Joy of Being Kids... A cultural program will be organized for children and few fun activities will also be conducted as part of Children’s Day Celebrations. 26th - 29th November: Sports Activities Days Hop a Little... Jump a Little... The little slaters will all gear up to stretch their muscles and showcase their skills at various games. Children will participate in various events like Hurdles Race, Balloon Bursting Race, Grab Your Share, etc., will be conducted. Note: Regular classes will also be taken up during these days. Please note that sports activities are held only for an hour or so. 30th November: Field Trip to SV Zoological Park. Let’s Discover more Friends around... Children are taken out on Field Trips to get away from the routine and learn while they play. At the Zoo, children will be taken around to see the animals. The concepts of wild and domestic animals will be introduced and explained clearly to them. Note the following points in this regard: ! The vans will leave sharp at 8:40 am from the school. ! Children coming by Own Transport should be dropped at school by 8:30 am 149

The timings for this Field Trip will be 8:40 am to 1:00 pm ! In case it rains or is very cloudy, the Field Trip will be postponed to a later date and children will be in school for academics and other activities. ! The vans may be delayed by half an hour or so in the afternoon. 20th December: Last day for completion of Term-II Syllabus 21st December to 2nd January, 2020: Revision for Term-II Proper revisions will be done prior the exams. Time Table and Practice Papers will be sent across to help children revise at home. 24th December : Christmas Celebrations The Season of Gifts, Giggles, Joy and Warmth After a hectic academic schedule, what could be a better thought than to celebrate with the 'Jingling Bells'. For the Christmas Celebrations, children can come in civil dress. Girls can come dressed as fairies or angels (any western outfit like jeans / trousers / skirts / gowns etc., are also allowed) and boys in suits (any western outfit like jeans / trousers etc., are also allowed). Children will be entertained with 'A Christmas Play' followed by 'Carol Singing'. Cakes / Muffins will be distributed at the end. Kindly note: ! Since Christmas is associated with 'the joy of sharing' children will share their snacks with their friends during the short break. They can get muffins, plum cakes, cookies, etc. ! The children need not carry books. ! The vans may be delayed by half an hour or so in the afternoon owing to the celebrations. 3rd - 9th January: Term-II Examinations The same procedure will be followed as done during Term - I Examinations. 10th January: Kite Flying Activity / Maths Theme Day Soar High... into the Sky... For the Kite flying activity, children can come in civil dress. They can get kites from home. Children will enjoy this activity, under the supervision of teachers. 150

Familiar objects from our environment representing different shapes will be displayed to help children relate with shapes. Various activities relating to the concept of shapes (Rectangle, Square, Circle and Triangle) and numbers will be taken up. Children can come in civil dress and get objects of various shapes from their homes. They can also get food items of different shapes for snacks. 20th January: School reopens after Pongal Vacation 25th January: Slate Family Fest (Report Card Day) (9.30 am to 12.00 noon) Parents can meet the teachers and collect the Progress Cards, apart from being a part of Slate Family Fest. For details, please refer to Slate Family Fest given in this book. 26th January : Republic Day Celebrations Flag will be hoisted by the cabinet members. Parents interested can bring the child for the flag hoisting. Details will be sent across through a circular. 1st February: Field Trip to Shilparamam Fun under the Sun... All the children and staff can come in white dress. (However, there is no compulsion). Children can come dressed in regular School Uniform too. 15th February: Sampoornatha-II The same procedure will be followed as done during Sampoornatha-I 29th February: Last day for completion of Term-III syllabus. 151

PRIMARY CALENDAR OF EVENTS MONTH DATE ACTIVITIES FEBRUARY 8th Life Skills Trip [Theme: Empathy] 10th–14th Formative Assessment - IV 13th Re-Dedication Day 29th Last date to complete syllabus for Summative Assessment - II MARCH 10th –23rd Summative Assessment – II (Orals and Written) 30 th Slate Family Fest (9.30 am – 12.00 noon) Events and Celebrations in Detail School Reopens on 12th June Into the Citadel of Learning It is the day of reopening for all the children of the Primary School after the summer vacation. The children should come in complete School Uniform. It will be a full working day. 22nd June: LifeSkills Trip to Mamanduru (Theme: Ecological Awareness) Tending today for a finer Tomorrow... As a part of LifeSkills Education Programme, children are motivated to maintain hygiene and also keep their surroundings clean. Various topics related to science, health, hygiene, etc., will be given to children a week in advance. A competition in performing skits will be conducted in the class itself. The best groups will get a chance to perform on the day of the Trip. They will also be observing various species of trees, apart from the other activities chalked out. Kindly note the following points pertaining to the Trip: ! The vans will start from the school sharp at 8:30 am ! Children coming by Own Transport should be in school by 8:30 am ! Children should come dressed in Sports Uniform. (If a student can’t wear the Sports Uniform, he / she can come in regular School Uniform - cream and green) 154
PRIMARY ! Children should bring lunch and water bottle, preferably in the school bag itself as it will be easy to identify the same. Moreover, they will be not allowed to use plastic bags or polythene bags. ! The vans will start back by 2:30 pm ! Children coming by Own Transport will return to school between 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm. 13th July : House Visits Together we can do so much better... ! At Slate, we understand that teaching in the class alone isn't the end of teaching. Observing and understanding children goes a long way into moulding them better. ! Hence, it is a convention at Slate that every year, we visit the houses of the students. ! This helps us understand the child better in his/her home environment. ! The details pertaining to the approximate time of visit and any other will be intimated through the Student's Diary. 15th to 19th July: Formative Assessment - I Formative Assessment-I will be conducted during this period. Please refer to Examination Schedule for the Time Table. Children will be made to do the Project Works before the Test. Every day, only one Test will be conducted. No Home work will be given during the Tests, but new lessons will be taken up since the Test will be conducted in the Zero Period. No request for conducting the test in advance or re - test will be entertained. 24th to 26th July: HALL - Health Awareness for Long Life Eat Right... Be Bright... Learning never stops at Slate… And, this time, it's a lesson on good health via HALL - Health Awareness for Long Life i.e; health days. To encourage these, children will be motivated to show case their skills in their respective classes a week prior to the trip. The best performers will get a chance to perform on the day of the trip. PRIMARY ! Children coming by Own Transport should be in school by 8:30 am. ! Children should come dressed in Sports Uniform. (If a student can’t wear the Sports Uniform, he/she can come in regular School Uniform - cream and green). ! To nurture the leadership qualities among young Slaters, a School Cabinet will be constituted comprising the Head Boy, Head Girl, Assistant Head Boy and Assistant Head Girl. These young leaders will take an oath to wholeheartedly shoulder the responsibilities assigned to them. 15th August: Independence Day Celebrations Flag will be hoisted by the cabinet members. Parents interested can bring their children for the flag hoisting. ! School timings will be 9:00 a.m to 10:00 a.m ! Children need not carry books and bags. ! They should come in Sports Uniform. 19th to 24th August: Formative Assessment - II Same procedure will be followed as Formative Assessment-I 31st August: Slate Family Fest (9:30 am to 12:00 noon) Parents can meet the teachers and collect the Progress Cards, apart from being a part of Slate Family Fest. For details, please refer to Slate Family Fest given in this book. 4th to 7th September: Sampoornatha-I A sneak into the learning @ Slate... The main aim behind conducting this programme is to give an opportunity to children to overcome the stage fear, improve their Public Speaking Skills and instil among them a positive competitive spirit. The details about this programme are mentioned under ‘Policies’ in this Book. The programme will be held during the school hours. Regular classes will be held after the competitions. Children need to bring books. 5th September: Teachers’ Day Celebrations (8.30 am to 12 noon) Details of the program will be sent across through a circular. 156
PRIMARY 21st September: Summative Assessment-I Revision Commences By this time, most of the teachers will complete the syllabus for the Exams. Revisions for Summative Assessment - I will start from this day. Parents are requested to send their wards regularly to school during this period. The entire syllabus would be revised. Children should be encouraged to revise the whole portion and read the Text Books at home too. 10th October: School reopens after Dussehra Vacation 10th to 23rd October: Summative Assessment-I (Orals and Written Exams) Please refer the 'Examination Schedule' for the Time Table. 25th October: GHAR - Grandparents - Honour, Admire, Respect and Diwali Celebrations What a joy it is to see three generations come together. On this day, grandparents spend the day with their grandchildren at school. Grandparents can also interact with the other children, tell them a few anecdotes and also get in touch with the teachers. Children will be presenting a cultural programme for them and also organize a few games. Children will celebrate Diwali also. They can come dressed in their traditional attire. Neat Handwriting scripts will be displayed on the notice boards. Students with the best handwriting will be awarded with Certificates. 22nd June: LifeSkills Trip to Mamanduru (Theme: Ecological Awareness) Tending today for a finer Tomorrow... As a part of LifeSkills Education Programme, children are motivated to maintain hygiene and also keep their surroundings clean. Various topics related to science, health, hygiene, etc., will be given to children a week in advance. A competition in performing skits will be conducted in the class itself. The best groups will get a chance to perform on the day of the Trip. They will also be observing various species of trees, apart from the other activities chalked out. Kindly note the following points pertaining to the Trip: ! The vans will start from the school sharp at 8:30 am ! Children coming by Own Transport should be in school by 8:30 am !
