Welcome from the President Our competitions have been showcasing the very best of Queensland since the first Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) in 1876. Competitions are the heart of the Show, rewarding and recognising our exhibitors, and highlighting the vital role agriculture plays in our everyday lives. As you know, due to the impacts of COVID-19, we made the decision last year to cancel the 2020 Ekka. Remarkably, we were able to run eight of our competition sections in a modified format during the worldwide pandemic. More than 3,300 competition entries were received, which was pleasing to see during such an uncertain and challenging year. Our Young Judges, Digital Photography and Bush Poetry competitions were moved online, introducing a new audience to our much-loved Ekka traditions. The Digital Photography Competition was hugely successful, attracting 1,850 entries - up an incredible 2,000 per cent on 2019. We are planning for the gates to open this August and are delighted all 42 of our competition sections will return for Ekka 2021. Our virtual competitions will also stay, as we continue to embrace the digital age to expand the growth and reach of our traditions. In 2021, the Show will open on a Saturday (August 7), running for nine days instead of 10, maintaining two full weekends and the Ekka public holiday. We remain committed to showcasing our wonderful agricultural traditions and look forward to bringing our exhibitors back together again to celebrate what makes Queensland great. For exhibitors who are showing animals under multiple names, such as schools, please ensure the people dispatching your animals are aware of this requirement. If you are bringing Stud Beef and Led Steer/Heifers on the same truck please note that separate NVD's are required for Stud Beef and Led Steer, even if from the same exhibitor. • All exhibitors are to visit the Led Steer Superintendents office immediately upon arrival - stalling allocation will be provided once NVD/MSA documents are handed to the Led Steer Superintendent. Please hand in your tick pre-inspection clearance forms with your NVDs. • All cattle must be accompanied by a current version of the National Vendor Declaration (NVD) edition July 2020 (0720), no old versionswill be accepted. • ALL STEERS AND HEIFERS MUST HAVE NOSE RINGS. • All competitors must wear a breed uniform, dust coat or vest for judging. • All steers and heifers must arrive by 12.00 noon Monday 2 August 2021. • In 2021, all Led Steer and Heifers will be stalled in the Stock Pavilion (located behind the old Upper Beef Building) • Led steers and heifers will be tied up in Stock Pavilion stalls for 2021 • The RNA will organize allocation of led steer and heifer stalling. • In 2021, all Led Steer judging, and the Led Steer Sale will take place on Main Arena • Please pay special attention to rules regarding dentition, horn length and weight – disqualifications apply for non- conformance. • All schools steers (Junior and Open) will be weighed on Monday from 1.30pm – no option for School Open steers to be weighed Tuesday. • Led steers and heifers will be weighed once only, no pre-weighing will occur. • Overweight Open steers cannot be transferred to the Prime Beef section. • Junior led steers and heifers to depart from 7.00am – penalties will apply for no-shows. • LED Steers will depart via the Large Animal Pavilion Loading Dock. • Please see Entry Form for the list of participating Agents who are authorized to sell at the Led Steer Sale. • Any Exhibitor who requires additional competitor tickets (on top of the allocated competitor tickets) are able to purchase these tickets at a discount rate when entering. CLASS 9 - MEAT STANDARDS AUSTRALIA EATING QUALITY AWARD HIGH POINT ACHIEVER STUD Will be judged from all carcasses in Class 9B utilising the MSA AND HOOF & HOOK Eating Quality model. $200, Association Sash This competition is open only to exhibitors entering cattle in Class supported by Meat & Livestock Australia both the Stud Beef Cattle section and the Prime Beef or Led Steer section. LED STEER JACKPOT The award is designed to encourage seed stock producers to be conscious of the importance of the trade requirements of COMPETITION commercial beef producers, in their endeavor to meet necessary carcass specifications. Eligibility: Points earned from Breeders Group classes only will also be Steers must have entered in the Led Steer Woolworths Premier counted from the Stud Beef Section. No other group class Carcass Competition (Class 100) to be eligible to enter points will be included. A & B Category Breeds Divisions: The competition will be conducted in three divisions - Champion of Champions 2 points Lightweight, Mediumweight and Heavyweight, with the overall Grand Champion 3 points winner being selected from these divisions. Champion 3 points Reserve Champion 2 points Prizemoney: The prizemoney purse will be distributed as follows: First in Class 3 points • Hoof - 10% of total purse for the highest points scorer Second in Class 2 points from each of the three divisions ie Lightweight, Mediumweight and Heavyweight. (Total 30%) Stud Beef Section (Stud Cattle) • Hook - 10% of total purse for the highest points scorer C & D Category Breeds from each of the three divisions ie Lightweight, Mediumweight and Heavyweight. (Total 30%) Champion of Champions 2 points • Jackpot - 40% of total purse for the winner of the highest Grand Champion 2 points combined total points from both Hook and Hook Sections. Champion 3 points Reserve Champion 2 points Special Conditions: First in Class 3 points The following regulations in addition to the Led Steer and Carcass Competition Regulations will apply: Stud Beef Section (Small Breeds Stud Cattle) 1. Steers nominated for the Jackpot must be declared at the A & B Category Breeds time of weighing. 2. Steers entered in Junior Classes are not eligible for the Jackpot competition. Steers will be judged by objective measurement and points Grand Champion 3 points allocated under the Aus-Meat Chiller Assessment System Champion 3 points as outlined in the Led Steer & Carcass Competition Reserve Champion 2 points Schedule. 4. Hoof and Hook agrihation Judging Points will be weighted First in Class 3 points with Hook Points being double the value of Hoof Points. Second in Class 2 points 5. Severely bruised bodies will not be eligible for a prize but will be appraised as unbruised carcasses.
