TOUR 2023 Lead with Love Chamber Choir Dr. Scott Hochstetler, conductor | Ana Yoder Coulter, accompanist
The Goshen College Chamber Choir The Chamber Choir is the premier mixed voice ensemble at Goshen College. The auditioned group of 24- 40 students perform secular and sacred music from the Medieval through Modern periods and is open to singers from all disciplines across campus. Chamber Choir members also participate in either Vox Profundi or Voices of the Earth, our tenor/bass and treble choirs, respectively. The Chamber Choir performs concerts both on and off campus during the school year and represents the college on periodic tours. The Chamber Choir has sung on National Public Radio, and has appeared in concert with Bobby McFerrin, Njål Sparbo, and basso profundo Glenn Miller. They are frequent collaborators with Camerata Singers, an Elkhart County-based professional choir. Director Soloist Scott Hochstetler H. Roz Woll Scott Hochstetler, DMA, is professor of music at Goshen College, where he teaches in the choral, H. Roz Woll is an Assistant Professor of Music at Goshen College, where she teaches voice and vocal and musical/opera theater areas. Previous appointments include Western Mennonite School directs the choir, Voices of the Earth. She recently moved from New York City, where she taught (Oregon), the University of Michigan – Flint, and Corban College (Oregon). Dr. Hochstetler is a voice, vocal pedagogy, and directed the Women’s Choir at Queens College, City University of New diverse conductor, having successfully led church, school, college, and community ensembles, York. Prior to living in New York, she was a conductor with the Chicago Children’s Choir for nine and worked with singers from novice to professional. Since 2011, he has conducted the area years, directing the Hyde Park Neighborhood Choir and choirs in ten Chicago public schools. As a professional choir Camerata Singers. Under his direction, Vox Profundi (formerly the Goshen College Men’s Chorus) singer, she has played Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti), Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia), Grace (Roman Fever), the Announcer performed to acclaim at the ACDA regional convention in March 2012. Hochstetler regularly clinics choirs and has led (Gallantry), Florence Pike (Albert Herring), Viola (L’infedeltà fedele), Dame Doleful (Too Many Sopranos), and Nancy groups on tours throughout the USA and Canada. Hochstetler guest conducted over 450 singers in the Mennonite (Oliver). With Downtown Music Productions she has appeared in Honoring Langston Hughes, and Yom Hashoah: Secondary Council Choral Festival in 2016. As a baritone, Dr. Hochstetler has performed opera and oratorio roles and Holocaust Remembrance Program, and with Music in Midtown she appeared in American Spirituals, featuring the given recitals in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Oregon. With graduate degrees from the University of Michigan and music of Roy Jennings, and in The Songs of Richard Hundley – A Celebration. She has been a professional member Michigan State University and a bachelors in music and biology from Goshen College, Dr. Hochstetler has studied of the Chicago Symphony Chorus and the Grant Park Symphony Chorus, and has been a community member of the conducting with David Rayl, Sandra Snow, Jonathan Reed and Jerry Blackstone, and he has studied voice with Leslie gospel group, Choral Thunder, and of the Cathedral Choir at Abyssinian Baptist Church. She received her Bachelor Guinn, Stephen Lusmann and Doyle Preheim. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking of Music Education with a concentration in piano at Indiana University and her Master of Music in vocal performance Thai food and cycling on the local Pumpkinvine Trail. from Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. She recently finished her Doctorate in Musical Arts at the CUNY Graduate Center with a certification in Africana Studies, and her research interests address connections Keyboard Artist between arts education, the political economy of race, and global citizenship. Ana Yoder Coulter Ana Yoder Coulter is a piano teacher and collaborative pianist in Northern Indiana, with more than a decade of experience teaching students of all ages both group and individual lessons, in both private studio and university settings. She operates a private piano studio out of her home in Goshen, and works as an applied piano instructor and staff pianist in the Music Department at Goshen College. Ana is an active member of the Music Teachers National Association and its local chapter, the South Bend Area MTA. Ana completed her Master of Music in Collaborative Piano at Bowling Green State University and her Bachelor of Arts in Music (piano pedagogy) at Goshen College. She has worked as a collaborative pianist at Interlochen Center for the Arts during their Summer Arts Camp, at Toledo Opera for their Children’s Opera Summer Camp, and as a piano instructor at The Studio Connection in Bowling Green, Ohio. From August 2013 to July 2018, she was employed as adjunct professor of music and staff accompanist at Bluffton University where she enjoyed accompanying and touring with the choirs, teaching applied piano lessons, and accompanying music students’ lessons and recitals. When not teaching or playing piano, Ana enjoys running or walking outdoors, catching up with friends, and spending Goshen College Music Department time with her husband and daughters. The Goshen College Music Department offers a bachelor of arts degree with concentrations in music education, performance, piano pedagogy and music for social change. Two new courses of musical study just added to the Tour Coordinator department’s offerings are a minor in musical theater and a minor in music for social change. More than 70 students major or minor in music and enjoy participation in three choirs, a touring worship ensemble, staged musicals and operas, symphony orchestra, wind ensemble and jazz band. The music department offers scholarships ranging from Marcia Yost $1,000 to $10,000 per year. Marcia Yost is the Goshen College Director of the Arts. In this position, she helps with visioning The music department is housed in the Goshen College Music Center, built in 2001. The Music Center features the for the arts and working toward further engagement and outreach through these programs. This 1,000-seat Sauder Concert Hall, the 250-seat Rieth Recital Hall, rehearsal and practice rooms, classrooms, teaching includes helping to establish Elkhart County and Goshen College as a hub for Music for Social studios, a recording studio and an art gallery. The Community School of the Arts, located in the Music Center, Change and widening Goshen College’s footprint in the arts community throughout the state. provides teaching experience and leadership training for Goshen College students. The Performing Arts Series One of her outreach responsibilities includes the managing and coordinating of ensemble tours. regularly brings prominent national and international musicians to the Music Center. Marcia Yost is also a sought-after choral clinician, adjudicator and speaker. Ms. Yost holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Indianapolis and a M.M. from Western Michigan University.
