Dear Student Welcome to our September 2015 Prospectus. We hope that you are able to find the information you need to make an informed decision as to whether Kimberley College or Wootton College are the right places for you to study next year. The two Colleges work very closely together with some students spending part of the week at both, for example a student studying Maths and Engineering at Kimberley alongside Art at Wootton College. Our students consistently achieve excellent results and tell us that they are very happy in their respective Colleges. A wide range of A level and BTEC Level 3 courses are available and we also offer a Level 2 course. A list of all courses can be found on page 7. We are very keen that students have every opportunity available to enable them to pursue their long term career goals and the wider curriculum we offer is designed to help you achieve these. All students study topical ethical issues with their personal tutors as well as getting involved in extra-curricular activities ranging from volunteering to fundraising. We also work in partnership with local universities including Bedfordshire, Cranfield and Cambridge together with many leading employers in Bedfordshire and beyond. We very much hope that you will be keen to join the next generation of Wootton Academy Trust sixth formers whether it is at Kimberley or Wootton Colleges. If you cannot find the answer to a question, please let us know! Our application process is designed to give you lots of opportunities to find out more and all applicants have at least one interview with a member of the Colleges’ staff. Our Colleges The Sixth Form experience offered by Wootton Academy Trust’s two Sixth Form Colleges is popular and many students from lots of different schools and colleges apply to join us each year recognising that Wootton Academy Trust can help them develop the skills that they need and the UK needs in its future leaders. We look forward to receiving your application if you think Wootton College or Kimberley College is the right place for you. Wootton College Based on the Wootton Upper School site, Wootton College is a vibrant and exhilarating specialist arts college with superb facilities and teaching in all performing arts subjects including music, music technology, drama and dance. The College expertise also extends to other arts related courses in art, fashion and textiles, media and photography. We have an experienced team in place to support Wootton College’s Sixth Form and to enable prospective students to make an informed decision as to whether our College is the right place for you to study. All prospective students have a one-to-one interview with one of our specialist Admissions Tutors where we look carefully to see whether we can offer you what you want for your future. Our personalised approach means that we really do offer students the ultimate Sixth Form experience. There are lots of great courses which you can choose from and we are really proud of how successful our students are at the end of their courses. Studying at Wootton College Sixth Form is much more than a collection of courses. There are lots of different enrichment activities, sports teams, visits and leadership opportunities for students to take part in as well as great facilities. It is the home to all of Wootton Academy Trust’s Sixth Form sports teams. Wootton College Sixth Form has its own independent Student Study Centre, situated next to the College’s Careers Hub and near the Wootton Academy Trust Library. The College has everything Sixth Formers expect, including an all-day refectory and a wide range of specialist student support services. Wootton College students can also choose any of the academic courses offered at Kimberley College; a shuttle bus operates between the two sites to make this possible. They also have free access to Kimberley College’s facilities, including its gym, refectory and study facilities as well as being invited to attend visiting lectures and other STEM events offered. 4
Kimberley College Based in Stewartby, 400 metres from the village train station which connects Bedford with Milton Keynes, Kimberley College opened in 2013 as a Sixth Form College specialising in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It aspires to be an outstanding and nationally recognized STEM Sixth Form College where like-minded Sixth Formers study in state of the art facilities taught by highly qualified and dedicated teachers supported by prestigious employers and universities. Kimberley College students have the ultimate Sixth Form experience, studying in accommodation you would not normally find before starting at university - you will be surrounded by exciting learning opportunities. Everybody who visits the College for the first time is impressed by our incredible building and facilities. Buildings of course are not everything - even ours! The Kimberley College experience includes specialist staff committed to Sixth Form teaching and who share the vision of our College. We work closely with universities and employers to provide this unique experience with lots of visiting lectures from highly qualified industry professionals and Higher Education academic staff as well as offering our students opportunities to visit universities and employers Kimberley College offers a wide range of courses in addition to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics curriculum that you would expect to find in our College. Students access a wide range of humanities, as well as arts and modern foreign languages based courses. Kimberley College students can also access the specialist performing arts and sports curriculum offered at Wootton College using the Shuttle Bus which runs between the two Colleges. The College facilities include its own Careers Hub, a fully equipped gym, refectory and a Costa Coffee outlet. There are lots of enrichment activities offered by the College which so far have included public speaking, debating, trips to CERN in Switzerland, a visit to Istanbul for a specialist Computer Science study course, a field-study tour to Iceland, the opportunity to meet Nobel Prize winners and much, much more. In addition, all Kimberley College students have free access to the many cultural and arts clubs offered at Wootton College. 5

Learning Pathways The following recommended Learning Pathways have been designed to help you make the right course choices for you, based on your predicted GCSE grade expectations. Please consider these Pathways when indicating your course preferences on your Application Form. If you need help to choose the right courses, please speak to your subject teachers or Form Tutor. You will also have an opportunity to discuss your choices in more detail with a senior member of the teaching staff at your informal interview in the summer term. Choose the right Pathway for Sixth Form Learning Pathways you, based on the following predicted GCSE grades Four A Level subjects, continued over two Blue Pathway Mainly A*/A grades years Three A Level subjects, continued over two Green Pathway years and one AS Level subject, continued Mainly B grades over one year Three A Level subjects, continued over two Red Pathway Mainly B grades years Choose one of the following: Purple Pathway - BTEC Subsidiary Diploma with two A Levels Mainly C grades - BTEC Diploma with one A Level - BTEC Extended Diploma only Yellow Pathway Level 2 course Mainly D grades or below Extra-curricular activities In both Years 12 and 13 you can access a broad range of extra-curricular activities, including sports, Bar Mock Trials, Formula 24, Musicals, Public Speaking, Young Enterprise, College Councils and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. You are encouraged to make positive contributions to your local community in the form of volunteering and fundraising activities along with the National Citizenship Service Award Scheme. 7

The Application Process Open events offer an excellent opportunity to see the facilities at both Open Colleges and meet key staff to find out more about the courses you are interested in. Check our websites for the latest dates. Events The Application Form can be downloaded from both Colleges’ Application websites and we ask that you send it to us as soon as possible so we can book your chosen courses. We will also accept late applications Forms following your GCSE results in August. Once we have received your application, we will invite you to meet a Informal member of our senior staff, who will be able to answer any questions you have about your course choices and life in Sixth Form. These Interviews interviews usually take place in the summer term. We often run Taster Days in the Summer Term to experience life as a Taster Wootton Academy Trust student and sample the courses that you have chosen. Days Once you have accepted your offer of a place, we will invite you to Induction attend our Induction Days in June. This will give you the opportunity to spend time with other students joining Year 12 and prepare Days yourself for new ways of learning. This is the final part of the application process. Once you have Results Day collected your results, you are asked to register with us and confirm the courses you wish to take. If your GCSE results are not as you Registration hoped, or you have changed your mind about the courses you wish to take, staff will be on hand to discuss alternative options. 9
Student Support Personal Tutor: You will be assigned a Personal Tutor, who will provide on-going academic and pastoral support throughout your time with us, both individually and as part of a tutorial group. Additional support If you have learning needs or disabilities we will ensure that all reasonable adjustments are made to ensure that you are able to achieve your potential. Academic and pastoral support: In addition to the support from your Personal Tutor, our Academic and Attendance Review will help us work with you to monitor your progress and discuss any support that may be necessary to keep you on track. Additionally, our Student Support team, including the Colleges’ Counsellor will always be on hand to provide support when you need it. Safeguarding and child protection Wootton Academy Trust takes student safety very seriously. We are committed to providing a safe environment in which students can learn, identifying students who are likely to suffer signifi- cant harm and taking appropriate action to help to ensure they are kept safe both at home and in College. Each College has a Designated Senior Person for Safeguarding and a policy which explains our approach in more detail. Financial support Students who face financial barriers to continuing in education may be entitled to financial assistance from our Post 16 Bursary. The policy, which outlines the eligibility criteria, is available on both Colleges’ websites. Parent Partnership Wootton Academy Trust welcomes the involvement of your parents and hopes that through a successful partnership they will work with us to encourage you to achieve your potential. Both Colleges expect that you will accept responsibility for your own learning and academic progress. Nevertheless, there is a continuing role for your parents to play in that process and the College will liaise with them accordingly, taking into account your individual needs. Transport Both Colleges are served by local public and school buses from surrounding villages, and the Bedford-Bletchley rail service offers access to Kimberley College. There are also facilities for students that wish to use their own transport. Details of all are outlined below. Public and school bus services: With the exception of certain circumstances, most sixth form students are not entitled to free home to College transport; however, they may apply to their local Council for a concessionary travel pass to use the school bus transport from most villages. Parking is available for those students wishing to use mopeds, motorcycles and cars; however all students must display a valid parking permit, which can be obtained from the Reception staff at Kimberley College. For travel between Kimberley and Wootton Colleges: A school shuttle bus service runs regularly for students studying subjects that are taught at both Colleges. 11
