WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL A MESSAGE FROM THE WELCOME WEEKEND CAPTAINS To our newest brothers of Keough Hall, First and foremost, allow me to congratulate you for your acceptance to the greatest university on earth and extend you a warm welcome to your new home. I can’t fathom how excited I am to be able to meet each and every one of you in the fall. We here as a residential community here at Keough are beyond honored to have you join our ranks come August. For now, enjoy your summer and get ready for the greatest four years of your life. Before I get any further, my name is Zack Htun, and I am a senior Finance major with a minor in Actuarial Science and Theology. Like my fellow Captain, Nick, my passion for this community has brought me back for a fourth year in a row in the same section, 4A. I’m originally from Akron, OH, hometown of Lebron James, Goodyear Tires, and a river that caught on fire back in the 60s (charming, isn’t it?). At my time here at ND, I’ve been involved as a member of the Leprechaun Legion Board, a student-run athletic marketing association that aims to generate unforgettable in-game experiences as well as produce some pretty sweet merch. Last summer, I worked on campus as a Mentor-in-Faith for Notre Dame Vision, a summer youth conference that welcomes over 1000 high school students each year to spend a week at ND and explore their faith. Other fun facts about me: I’ve studied abroad in Japan, play the guitar, hate watermelon flavored candy, and still have never learned how to ride a bike. When you finally make the trek over during August, you’ll come to find a unique aspect about our dorms. Each and every one of them carries with them honored traditions that drive the spirit of each of their residents; it’s that which what makes Keough Hall more than just a dorm, but rather a place many can truly call home. Granted, being randomly placed into a dorm with someone you’ve never met before may warrant some concern. Rest assured, it’s our responsibility to make sure your transition from high school to college goes without a hitch. You’ll come to realize in the coming days just how special Notre Dame is and even more so how Keough Hall serves as a fundamental piece in the puzzle. Whether it’s the joy shared from racing chariots (that we build ourselves of course), the warm aroma of Keough Kitch pizza, or the constant stream of laughter you’ll hear down the halls at any point in the day, many different elements go into making the men of Keough Hall embody its everlasting motto: brothers, scholars, and champions. You’ll soon come to understand just how important those three words go into defining what we here at Keough Hall strive to achieve. In the spirit of that motto, we’ve planned an equally incredible Welcome Weekend experience to help you become acclimated to campus life here at the University of Notre Dame. Get ready to stuff your face at the West Quad Cookout, brush up on your ice skating s kills, and bust a move under the lights of Domerfest. There’s so much more waiting in store! Needless to say, Nick and I are more than ecstatic to get the chance to meet you and the rest of your fellow first-year class in the fall! If you flip through the following pages of this booklet, you’ll find useful information regarding the Welcome Weekend process as well as bios from the rest of our team (take the chance to learn more about them!). They’re a fantastic group of guys who’ve been individually selected to lead the charge with every step you need. To close it off, here’s a quick list of tips for some Welcome Weekend success: 1. Be open. Don’t be hesitant to ever reach out to any members of the Welcome Weekend staff or especially your fellow classmates during this time. After all, this is the time you’ll make some of the greatest friends you’ll have for life. 2. Be ready. This will be a busy weekend! Your schedule will be jam packed with tons of fun activities. At the same time... 3. Be still. Don’t be too much in a rush that you’ll miss out on what’s in front of you currently. Take the time to enjoy yourself! It’s an absolute pleasure for all of us here in Marilyn M. Keough Hall to be able to welcome some fresh new faces into our midsts and kick off another fantastic year here at the University of Notre Dame. If you or your family have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to shoot me a text or call at (330) 618-3133. Be sure to join the both the affiliated Notre Dame Class of 2022 a nd Keough Hall Class of 2022 on Facebook, follow us on Instagram @keough_hall, or visit our website: roos.nd.edu. Now, take a deep breath. Yes this is all for real. Welcome home. Zack Htun
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL A MESSAGE FROM THE WELCOME WEEKEND CAPTAINS Newest Brothers of Keough Hall, Welcome to the University of Notre Dame and to the best four years of your life. First of all, congratulations on being accepted to the University and for choosing ND as your home for the coming years. We are honored to have you join our community and excited for the stories, talents, and blessings you will bring along with you from all across the country and the world. Getting accepted here is no small accomplishment, and I encourage you to celebrate your high school achievements and enjoy the summer. My name is Nick Gabriele and I am a senior studying Economics and Spanish. I’ll be living in 1A Keough Hall for the fourth year in a row, where I am a proud Beastchief to the end. I hail from Phoenixville, PA and am a proud older brother to five. I have participated in the ISSLP here at Notre Dame, where I spent a summer as a missionary and teacher in Honduras. Last year, I led over 1000 Notre Dame students in Washington, D.C. on the Right to Life Club’s annual March for Life trip. I am a manager at NDlistens, where I oversee sixty ambassadors who seek to bridge the gap between alumni, students, and development. I also founded a group called Consulting Connect which seeks to help more students prepare for careers in consulting. As you prepare this summer to make the transition to your new home, we hope that the information in this packet will broaden your understanding of your future home. Notre Dame is special because it invests in your residence community in a way no other top academic institution is able to. When you arrive here on campus, you’ll quickly notice that our residence halls are the center of student life here. Being placed randomly into a rooming situation may seem worrisome, but it is exactly this which allows wonderful friendships to blossom and diversity of backgrounds to be shared in a way which would never be possible. The residence hall is the fundamental unit of the Notre Dame experience: a place where students across all grade levels live, pray, learn, play, and grow together. Everyone coming to Notre Dame has the luxury of this incredible living system. Few are lucky enough to join the Keough Hall community. Congratulations on hitting the residence hall lottery. You’ll quickly learn that Marilyn M. Keough Hall is an extraordinary community of passionate, caring, driven, interesting, and loving men who will quickly become much more than friends. Within months or even weeks, you will call many of the seniors, juniors, sophomores, and first years in Keough your brothers. You’ll be entering a dorm rich with both tradition and air conditioning, a combination few can boast. We look forward to introducing you to everything which makes this community so special, including Chariot Week, Sunday Mass and Wednesday Root Beer Float Mass, and section football, among many others. It is an extraordinary privilege to be one of the first faces you’ll encounter when you step on campus for Welcome Weekend. Zack, myself, and our incredible team have planned four days of fun events to help you transition into your new home. I feel honored to be able to be one of the first to welcome you, hear your stories, and help to make this place feel like home. We hope this packet will help you as you prepare for your new life in Keough Hall. If you have Facebook, joining the groups Notre Dame Class of 2022 and Keough Hall Class of 2022 should also be of great value to you. If you or your family have any worries whatsoever as you prepare over the summer to transition to life at Notre Dame, please do not hesitate to call or text me at 610-331-1378. You can also shoot me an email at ngabrie1@nd.edu. See you in August! In Marilyn, Nick Gabriele
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL A WELCOME FROM THE RECTOR 100 Keough Hall, Notre Dame, 46556 • b ryan2@nd.edu • 574-631-4945 To the Newest Members of Keough Hall, Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Notre Dame and on being assigned to live in Keough Hall! We are thrilled to welcome you to our community and hope that it will soon feel like home. When you arrive at Marilyn M. Keough Hall in August, you will join 270 other Notre Dame men who work hard to make Keough a place where it is easy for one another to be good. Keough is a vibrant community whose men have earned their motto: “Brothers. Scholars. Champions.” Not only do we live together under the same roof, but we pray together, we study together, we play together, we celebrate together, we mourn together, we challenge and support each other, we strive to become close neighbors, trustworthy friends, brothers. This is both a gift and a challenge to you. When you move into Keough Hall, you will gain the communal strength and support that is the unique hallmark of the residential tradition at Notre Dame, one that is guided by Notre Dame’s founding religious order, the Congregation of Holy Cross. I am in my second year here in Keough Hall, serving last year as an Assistant Rector. In addition to taking on the new role of Rector, I will also undergo some other significant life changes this year. In August, I will profess perpetual vows in the Congregation of Holy Cross and be ordained a Deacon. And then in April, I will be ordained a Priest. Although this might cause confusion for all of the men in the Hall (I will go from “Brogan” to “Deacon Brogan” to “Father Brogan” in the course of a year!), I am beyond excited to share in this process with you and to be able to say that Keough Hall will be the community that taught me how to be a deacon and then how to be a priest. A few other things you should know about me: I have been at Notre Dame off and on since 2004, but I am originally from Columbus, Ohio, where I grew up with 10 siblings, including an identical twin brother. I am a big fan of Notre Dame sports, enjoy reading, spending time active and outdoors and l like to garden. In addition to the men of the Hall, I am joined in our work of building community by our excellent Hall Staff: two Assistant Rectors and seven Resident Assistants, as well as many other student leaders and our Priest in Residence, Fr. Nate Wills, csc. (You can find out more about them on our website.). We are all committed to your flourishing here at Notre Dame and in Keough Hall and will be here for you throughout the year in every way possible. While every transition comes with bumps in the road, I trust that you will find living in Keough Hall one of the best aspects of coming to Notre Dame. I hope you enjoy the remaining weeks in advance of your arrival here at Keough Hall. I trust that the information provided will prove helpful to you, but feel free to contact me if there is anything I can offer prior to your arrival. In the meantime, know of my prayers for you. Peace, Brogan Ryan, csc Rector – Keough Hall
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL WORDS OF WISDOM FROM THE KEOUGH HALL EXECUTIVE BRANCH FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT: NICK SCHLEITH Men of Keough, On behalf of Hall government and all of the brothers here in Marilyn M. Keough Hall, congratulations on your admittance to Notre Dame. This is a huge accomplishment and will shape your life going forward. The next four years will be the most special of your life and ones that you will never forget. Great times are coming; over the next few weeks, take the time to thank all the people who helped you towards this awesome next chapter of your life. My name is Nicholas Schleith, and I am a junior ACMS and Economics major from Long Island, New York. This year, I have the honor and privilege of serving as Keough Hall’s current President. First off, congratulations! The grace of God placed you in Keough Hall, the best men’s dorm on campus. We really cultivate an incredible community here and all of the residents love it. Here in Keough, we live by the motto: Brothers, Scholars, Champions. We are brothers in the way that we live in a tight-knit community together. Sure, your college life will consist of the normal things: schoolwork, extracurriculars, etc. However, here in Keough, it’s a little different. There are always guys around to play you in FIFA, watch the game (or all of them since we have RedZone) on Sundays, or even go play 9 holes at ND’s golf course, which is a five-minute walk from Keough. Next, scholars. This builds off the way we are brothers. Have a challenging problem you’re having trouble getting through? Look no further than your brothers in Keough to lend a helping hand, always. The atmosphere of group work that is available to the men of Marilyn is unparalleled and has been a crucial part to my academic experience at Notre Dame. Lastly, we are champions both on and off the field. Our signature event here in Keough is our annual Chariot Week, a week in October during which we host athletic and dorm spirit events all culminating in Chariot races with homemade chariots and a toga dance. Also, throughout the year, there will be many dorm events that we will host: Marilyn Madness (a 3v3 spring basketball tournament), a formal come spring, and a host of other events with our sister dorm, McGlinn. During your first year in Keough, you are going to have an abundance of opportunities to meet new people and try new things. My advice: embrace all of this. Talk to people, come to mass on Sunday nights, get involved in Hall government and/or the section in which you live. Keough Hall has presented my fellow Roos and me with so many opportunities over the last two years, and we want to share these with all of you. We cannot wait for you to come home in August! Living in Keough is an incredible blessing that you all will come to realize very shortly. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out by texting me at 516-413-5054 or shooting me an email at nschleit@nd.edu. My door, 406, is always open. I wish you and your families all the best during this transition period, but I assure you that there is no more welcoming and electric atmosphere than what we have here in Keough Hall. Welcome home, Nick Schleith ’20
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL WORDS OF WISDOM FROM THE KEOUGH HALL EXECUTIVE BRANCH FROM THE OFFICE OF THE VICE-PRESIDENT: WILL HENRY Newest Roos, Welcome to Keough Hall! My name is Will Henry, and I’m a junior Finance and ACMS major from Dallas, Texas. I’m very excited to be able to serve all of you as Keough’s VP next year, and if you’re reading this, it means you won the random dorm lottery-congratulations! Keough is objectively the premier men’s residence hall in the greater South Bend Area, and there are many reasons for it. When I heard that I was going to live in Keough as a freshman, I did not know what to expect, and I imagine many of you are having very similar thoughts right now. Keough is not one of the first dorms that comes to mind when an incoming student is thinking about what dorm they are going to be in, but Keough is one of the few places that allows for you to have whatever experience you want, and that’s what makes it so special in my mind. Want to have a quiet night in and get ahead on work? Keough’s the place for you. Want to experience the “nightlife” of Party City, USA (South Bend), you can always find a group of Keough guys to join you. Looking for an electric atmosphere to watch Red Zone on Sunday’s? Check any of the elevator lounges but avoid the third floor if Cam Kaupp’s Saints are losing. No matter what it was, all of my favorite Notre Dame memories involve Keough in one way or another. I truly feel blessed to have been put in Keough, and I am very excited to welcome you all into our community full of amazing people. If you have any questions or concerns over the summer or anytime during your freshman year, feel free to text me at (214)-668-1116 or venmo me a few cents (@willhenry13) and include your question in the description. Last, but certainly not least, get hype for Domerfest. Welcome Home, Will Henry
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL WHO’S WHO IN KEOUGH HALL THE RECTOR Brogan Ryan C.S.C. is Rector of Keough Hall. His room can be found on the 1st Floor (100 Keough Hall) near the elevator just to the left if entering through the main doors. He oversees life in the hall and is available to help with anything you might need. THE ASSISTANT RECTORS Mike Rossetti (Room 200) and J.P. Catalanotto (Room 300) are this year’s assistant rectors for Keough Hall. The assistant rectors (ARs) are graduate students who live on the second and third floor and are available to help with anything that comes up during the year. THE PRIEST IN RESIDENCE Fr. Nate Wills, C.S.C. will be Keough’s priest in residence. The priest in residence is a Holy Cross priest who provides spiritual support and guidance to the men of Keough Hall and unites the community with masses throughout the week. He can be found in Room 400. THE RESIDENT ASSISTANTS The RAs are a group of seven seniors who maintain order in the seven sections of the hall. Their purpose is to help you handle all of college’s trials, everything from being locked out to your room to more private matters. The RAs foster a great sense of brotherhood in their sections, and you will get to know this group of seven very well. HALL GOVERNMENT Hall government is composed of elected leaders who represent various groups within the hall community, such as service, sports, and hall apparel. They are responsible for planning day-to-day events in the hall, from hall dances to interhall and section sports. This year, Nick Schleith will serve as president, and Will Henry will serve as Vice President.

WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL MEET YOUR KEOUGH HALL WELCOME STAFF SEAN BAKER Nickname: Barnyard Section: 4B Hometown: Seneca, IL Email: sbaker8@nd.edu Wassup Roos! Congrats on choosing the best University in the world and winning the dorm lottery! My name is Sean and I am a sophomore who plans on studying Finance and Economics. I hail from the cornfields of the Midwest, more specifically Seneca, Illinois (definitely NOT the suburbs). Originally living in 3A, this year I am taking my NBA 2K talents to 4B and room 455 with my pal Costco – if you ever have an itch to get beat in 2K, I’m your guy. At Notre Dame, I participate in SIBC, Investment Club, Bookstore Basketball, and the Big Brothers program. I also dabble in a variety of music, any and all sports, video games, and love hanging with my fellow roos. If you ever want to talk Chicago sports, hot stocks, basic farming principles, getting yolked, or the state of the food on campus, don’t hesitate to stop by the 4B section lounge or 455 – our door is always open! Get ready men, your new home awaits, and we couldn’t be more happy to welcome you into the Keough family. See you in August! JOHN CRAIG Nickname: Hugo Section: 4A Hometown: Wassenaar, NL Email: jcraig2@nd.edu Hey all, congratulations on finishing high school and making it to college. All of your hard work has come to fruition and fortunately you’ve been placed into what I honestly believe is the best place to live on campus. My name is John Craig (but nearly everyone in Keough knows me as “Hugo”) and I am a rising Junior who is studying Mechanical Engineering with potentially a concentration in Controls. I spend a good deal of free time as a member of Notre Dame’s Robotic Football team, conducting research on dynamic mechatronic quadruped motion control (think robot cheetah), as well as serving in hall gov. Even if the week is busy, I love nothing more than to just hang out, read a book, watch tv, or shoot the breeze. I’ve moved around my entire life and am so incredibly grateful to be able to call Notre Dame and Keough Hall my home. I’m excited to be able to meet you all and have the opportunity to show you the brotherhood that Keough has to offer. Seriously, if you need any help during this transition process, don’t hesitate to let me know.
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL MEET YOUR KEOUGH HALL WELCOME STAFF SEAN EBBEN Nickname: Clarence Section: 2A Hometown: Livonia, MI Email: sebben@nd.edu Fellow ‘Roos! Congratulations and Welcome Home. Take a deep breath. You can now tell everyone you know that you live in the best dorm at the University of Notre Dame, so that’s extremely hype. My name is Sean Ebben, and I proudly hail from Livonia, Michigan, a suburb about 25 minutes outside of the rejuvenating city of Detroit. I’m currently a rising sophomore in the Mendoza College of Business, and I tell people that I’m majoring in Accounting even though I still don’t really know yet. I live in 2A (objectively the best section in Keough) in room 221, and I am extremely proud to call Keough home. I’m Keough Hall’s rep. for the Adopt-A-Family Christmas Initiative on campus and am also a High School Ambassador for the university. I’m a huge sports guy even though Detroit sport teams right now are laughable (we’re rebuilding...we’ll be back). I can almost always be seen wearing ND athletic gear, even though I don’t play a sport here and am the opposite of athletic. I love food, especially of the mushroom burger and pizza varieties. Don’t let anyone tell you Keough Kitch pizza isn’t ELITE (it gets the job done, you’ll see). In addition to all of this, I want to let y’all know how excited I am to meet and welcome you into Keough Hall. It’s normal and natural to be nervous, but know that the best four years of your lives are right around the corner. See you soon. Welcome home. DANNY GARDA Nickname: Santa Section: 2A Hometown: Dallas, TX Email: dgarda@nd.edu What’s up bros! My name is Danny, and I’m currently a sophomore planning on majoring in Finance. I live on the outskirts of Dallas, a place where we ride our horses to school and use our lassos to catch dinner (Dak and Zeke are on the come up don’t worry). I’m extremely excited to welcome all of you into Keough this fall and even a select few of you into the best section in Keough: 2A. Last year, I played interhall tackle football, soccer, and tennis and took part in SIBC (a business club), the Christmas Initiative Project, and section sports. I’m going to be living in 225 this year, so swing by if you ever want to talk sports, listen to Chance, or catch these hands in FIFA. I can’t express how lucky it is to be placed in the spot that y’all are in. Get ready to experience the best four years of your life and meet some of the greatest people from around the world. Looking forward to meeting y’all in August!
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL MEET YOUR KEOUGH HALL WELCOME STAFF JEFF GIRARDOT Nickname: Geo Section: 3B Hometown: Naperville, IL Email: jgirardo@nd.edu "What’s up Roos!! Welcome to Keough Hall, AKA the best hall on Notre Dame’s campus! My name is Jeff Girardot, although around 3B I am known as Geometry Jeff or just Geo. I’m a Science Preprofessional major from the city of Naperville, Illinois just west of Chicago. At school, I am involved in Timmy Health ND, Rare Disease club, and the Running Club. My hobbies include running, golf, ultimate frisbee, table tennis, Fifa, and listening to classic rock music. I’m also an avid Detroit sports fan, which has me consistently disappointed and which may seem a little odd seeing as I live by Chicago. If any of that interests you, feel free to pop over into 3B to talk. I can’t wait to meet all of you! Keough will quickly become a new home for you, and the community here is really something special. If you ever need anything, let me know. See you in August! NOAH HELM Nickname: Stitches Section: 2A Hometown: Geneva, IL Email: nhelm@nd.edu Hello new ‘Roos!! Congratulations on winning the dorm lottery. Welcome home to Keough Hall, objectively the best dorm on campus. My name is Noah Helm, and I am a rising sophomore studying Economics and Psychology. Here in Keough Hall, I live in Section 2A, but I originally hail from Geneva, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. I play the saxophone in the marching band and jazz band at Notre Dame, and I love listening to just about any type of music. I am also a member of several campus ministry groups, and I love spending time outdoors – camping, hiking, or playing sports. I am always down to toss a frisbee around on the quad or play a game of pickup basketball on the bookstore courts. Despite being from a suburb of Chicago, I am a huge Green Bay Packers fan. I look forward to getting to know all of you, and my door is always open if you ever need anything in your first year here. Please stop by room 209 anytime if you want to chat. Welcome to Notre Dame, and welcome to the brotherhood of Keough Hall!
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL MEET YOUR KEOUGH HALL WELCOME STAFF RYAN KENYON Nickname: Milkman Section: 4B Hometown: Deerfield, IL Email: rkenyon@nd.edu Hey new Roos! Congrats on landing a spot in the best dorm on campus, Keough Hall. My name is Ryan Kenyon and I’m a sophomore from Deerfield, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago. I am a double major in Business Analytics and Applied Computational Math & Statistics (ACMS), although I have yet to discover exactly what these are. I will be serving as Keough’s Service Commissioner this year, so lookout for some great opportunities to represent the dorm by serving ND and surrounding communities. Slice of Life tutoring is a program which is particularly near and dear to my heart (#DoItForTheKids). I come from a basketball family, but also have a love for volleyball, baseball and am a big football fan. I love the Bears, Cubs, Illinois, and of course all things Notre Dame. So if you want to analyze the scenarios where we make it to the college football playoffs, play some pickup basketball at the Rock, or teach me how to play the ukulele I got last Christmas, stop by my penthouse suite in 450. I look forward to welcoming you guys to your new home here in Keough and helping you through this big transition. It’s gonna be an awesome year! Go Irish, Beat Michigan! NICK IOVINO Nickname: Costco Section: 4B Hometown: New Albany, OH Email: niovino@nd.edu Greetings, ‘Roos! Huge congrats on getting into Notre Dame! My name is Nick, I am sophomore Biological Sciences major living in 4B, and I hail from the greatest place on earth, Columbus, Ohio. Some fun facts about me are that I love to hit drums with sticks, I am better at soccer in real life than I am at Fifa, I can’t form words or express coherent thoughts prior to 10 in the morning, I enjoy vocally expelling my academic frustration late into the night, and I once shot a model rocket off in my living room. On the weekdays you can probably find me grinding away at homework at my desk, and on weekends you can catch me playing on Drumline at Midnight Drummer Circles and trotting onto the field with the Band of the Fighting Irish. Right about now I’m guessing you’re all still feeling blessed that you didn’t get put in Carroll (or O’Neill for that matter). Well guess what, feel more blessed, because Keough Hall is the highest quality single-sex male dorm on a Catholic campus in the world! Really, you will love it. As a Freshman...err, I mean “First Year”... you will have so many awesome experiences and opportunities, so embrace it all. Notre Dame is a place unlike any other, and I am certain that no matter who you are, this place will come to feel like home. If you ever want to pop by and talk about life or gated ion channels, you can find me and my legendary roommate Sean “Barnyard” Baker in 455. Welcome home, gentlemen!
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL MEET YOUR KEOUGH HALL WELCOME STAFF JOSEPH MASTRONI Nickname: Dirty Section: 2A Hometown: Huntington Beach, CA Email: jmastron@nd.edu My new brothers in Keough Hall, welcome to the greatest dormitory at the University of Notre Dame! My name is Joe Mastroni, and I am extremely excited to meet all of you over this next year. I’m a sophomore studying Neuroscience and Behavior, so please feel free to hit me up if you have any questions about the College of Science or simply want to vent about how much more homework you have than your friends in the Business School. I am originally from Huntington Beach, CA; although I love Surf City, I am proud to call Section 2A my home. At Notre Dame, I am a member of Keough’s interhall football team, various science clubs, and the Student Union Board (on which I serve as Keough’s dorm representative). When I’m not in class or studying, you can find me doing at least one of these: playing Mario Kart Wii with the boys (I’m elite with Luigi + the Mach Bike), chilling in the section lounge, propagating California stereotypes (I take pride in my flip-flop game), or making memes (I don’t mean to brag, but I’ve been told that they are “dank”). More important than my autobiography, though, is a final piece of advice that helped me through my first year: take advantage of everything Keough has to offer, because the dorm community can assist you in every facet of your Notre Dame experience. Above all else, go ‘Roos! JACK MORGAN Nickname: Jmorgs Section: 4A Hometown: Chicago, IL Email: jmorga13@nd.edu I’m Jack Morgan, and I live in Chicago (real Chicago, not the suburbs, my zip code is 60614). I attended Saint Ignatius College Prep, where I ran cross country, track, and played baseball. I am currently studying computer science here at ND. I'll be in Keough 4A next year, room 405 (I’m pretty sure). I play a lot of call of duty, as well as the bass guitar. My door is always open to anyone who wants to play videogames, jam on some 12 bar blues, or just talk. I look forward to meeting all of the incoming freshman and making your transition to ND as smooth as possible.
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL MEET YOUR KEOUGH HALL WELCOME STAFF NOBLE PATIDAR Nickname: Chai-Hard Section: 4B Hometown: Ocala, FL Email: npatidar@nd.edu Greetings! I'm Noble Patidar, a Sophomore of our very own Marilyn, double-majoring in Finance and Political Science. I'm a first-generation, Hindu Indian (the sub-continent) born and raised in the Sunshine State (Florida). What makes me happy in life is seeing others happy, but here's a short list of things I REALLY enjoy at ANY time: Hot chocolate, Taco Bell, and talking. I might be the most social guy you meet; I love people, conversations (light-hearted or deep), and seeing smiles on peoples' faces. Let's have a chat and get some coffee sometime! And feel free to come into my room (440) at any time...mí casa es tú casa. MATT QUINN Nickname: Ricky Bobby Section: 2A Hometown: Carmel, IN Email: mquinn9@nd.edu Welcome, brother First Years, to Keough Hall. My name is Matt Quinn and I cannot express my excitement for you all to be a part of the most elite dorm community on this beautiful campus. I'm a sophomore Economics major, come from just north of Indianapolis, and reside in 2A: Keough's best section and home to the reigning Chariot Race champions (and a bunch of fun and extremely good-looking guys). In the dorm, I serve as the Wellness Commissioner in Hall Government and play for the Interhall Soccer A Team. Outside of Keough, I participate in the Student International Business Council, the Adopt-a-Family Christmas Initiative, and tutor at La Casa de Amistad. These activities hardly hold a candle to the plethora of opportunities you all have both inside and outside of the dorm community. I would be more than willing to talk about any of them for those interested. If you're more interested in talking about music, Game of Thrones, Indiana sports teams, or want to hear some awful puns, my door (225) is always open. Congrats on winning the dorm lottery, and get ready for an awesome school year!
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL MEET YOUR KEOUGH HALL WELCOME STAFF MATT TICHACEK Nickname: Ice Section: 3B Hometown: Spring Lake, NJ Email: mtichace@nd.edu What’s up Roos!! It’s my great honor to welcome you not only to Notre Dame, but (more importantly) to Keough Hall as well! I’m Matt Tichacek, a rising sophomore working towards a Business and Econ double major. I am fortunate enough to come all the way from the Jersey Shore, which is more commonly referred to as the ‘real Jersey.’ Because of that I don’t allow any variations of the following words: soda, sneakers, water fountain. In terms of my Keough home, you can find me up in the 3B bathroom quad this year. Outside of Keough my main commitment is to the Fencing team- without a doubt one of the two best teams here on campus. On the more casual side of things you can find me getting passionate about FIFA and Fortnite into the late hours or playing sports outside when the weather allows for it. Once again, welcome home to Keough Hall!! STEPHEN VUKOVITS Nickname: Vuks Section: 1A Hometown: Fishers, IN Email: svukovit@nd.edu Welcome to Notre Dame, fellow ‘Roos! Congratulations on choosing Notre Dame and getting placed into the best dorm on campus. My name is Stephen Vukovits, and I am a sophomore Economics major with minors in Constitutional Studies, Public Service, and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). I originally hail from Fishers, IN and am now living in Keough 1A. On campus at ND, I am a Tocqueville Fellow for Inquiry into Religion and Public Life, student in the Glynn Family Honors Program, competitor on the Federal and Fiscal Challenge Economics Team, member of Young Americans for Freedom, and tutor at St. Adalbert Catholic School. I am very passionate about politics and sports, so feel free to stop by Room 107 to discuss your hot takes on current events or watch the Pacers, Dolphins, and Reds dominate their opponents. Also, if you need advice on how to budget your flex points wisely, I am your guy for a diet of pineapple pizza, soft pretzels, and sticky rice. If there is anything you need, feel free to reach out to me. I look forward to meeting all of you!
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL MEET YOUR KEOUGH HALL WELCOME STAFF BEN WAINSCOTT Nickname: Raf Section: 3B Hometown: Cincinnati, OH Email: bwainsco@nd.edu Welcome home my fellow brothers. Get absolutely wild for this upcoming year for you are entering one of the most prestigious and welcoming halls in all of Notre Dame's campus. My name is Ben Wainscott and I am a sophomore in the College of Arts and Letters studying pre-health so if you ever need help with any General Chemistry homework or just need a good ol' dose of Fortnite 'n' Chill, drop by room 353, my door is always open. When I'm not fully engrossed in the magical world of Chemistry (lies), I am usually either running around St. Mary's and St. Joe's lakes, singing some incredible music with the Glee Club, or wailing on a heavy bag underneath the JACC. So, if you ever want to talk about why water is definitely not wet, the International Summer Service Learning Program, or how you can get involved in the Marilyn M. Keough Hall Community, please do not hesitate to ask or drop by at any time. As I mentioned earlier, my door is open to all so I will do my absolute best to welcome you all home.

WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL KEOUGH HALL TRADITIONS CHARIOT WEEK (LATE SEPTEMBER) Keough’s signature event, the Chariot Race, and a week full of events leading up to it. Usually the week kicks off with the Toga Dinner, where hundreds of ‘roos clad solely in togas march for glory to South Dining Hall. Mid-week the real work begins: building a chariot fit for victory. Only a subtle combination of tradition, engineering prowess, and creativity will result in triumph. Next, the gentlemen of Keough can count on filling up at the Kitch Eating Contest, where brave warriors from all sections will square off against a Kitch pizza, breadsticks, and two hot dogs. On Friday, at the Toga Dance, one can find ladies from all across the land imitating the ‘roos toga attire and joining in food and dance. The week culminates on Saturday at the Chariot Race, where Keough men alongside other residence halls race across the ‘U’ shaped track for glory and honor. Pizza and competition keep the rowdy crowds at bay. THE MARILYN (LATE SPRING) A recent yet thriving tradition, The Marilyn is Keough’s attempt at topping the Masters. For a few days out of the year, the carpets of our hallowed hall feel as well kept as the greens of Augusta National. Each section builds a mini-golf hole filled with obstacles that would make even the likes of Jordan Spieth wither in fear. Declared section champions (and often their caddies) take to the entire course for a shot at winning glory and the custom maroon jacket of the Marilyn. SLICE OF LIFE (ALL YEAR) A volunteering opportunity very close to Keough’s heart, Slice of Life offers the chance to impart some wisdom on young students in South Bend, and perhaps learn a thing or two yourself. Rides are available several times a week to grab a few friend, head over and tutor! ROOT BEER FLOAT MASS (WEDNESDAYS AT 10 PM) One of the original food masses, men and women from all over the Notre Dame campus join for mass on Wednesday nights. Afterwards, grab a root-beer float from Brogan’s room. Cheerful conversation almost always ensues in the lobby.
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL KEOUGH’S BROTHER AND SISTER DORMS BROTHER DORM: SISTER DORM: DUNCAN HALL McGLINN HALL Given that roughly half of the halls at Notre Dame are male, and the other half are female, it is tradition for each hall to pick a brother/sister hall! A brother or sister hall is a great partner to plan events with, to meet other people, and to overall foster the spirit of community that is readily found at Notre Dame. Since there is an odd number of halls, one group of residence halls forms a group of three. Keough happens to be so lucky. This year Keough has McGlinn as its sister hall and Duncan as its brother hall. Both halls are only a short walk from Keough, and they are all on West Quad! Fun fact: since Keough and McGlinn were both built around the same time, they actually have almost identical floor plans! The Shamrocks, as they fondly call themselves, have two signature events, Casino Night and Bubble Soccer. Both events are a lot of fun, and the Casino Night helps to raise money for St. Adalbert's School, a local K-8 Catholic School in downtown South Bend. They even run their ‘Snack Shack’ a few nights a week, where they sell baked goods made by McGlinn residents. Duncan Hall is located at the end West Quad. It’s residents may be seen around campus wearing their signature green jackets, particularly during Masters week when they host The Duncan Classic, a 9-hole campus wide golf tournament for all Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s and Holy Cross Students, Staff and Faculty. Proceeds for the event go to The St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL WHAT TO BRING FIRST, SOME FRIENDLY ADVICE: ● Bring only what you really need. You’ll find a list of suggested items below. ● Talk to your roommate(s) beforehand and coordinate who is bringing what. It’s best to split up the big things (TV, fridge, rug, gaming systems, etc.) ● You don’t need to bring everything. Many items (especially the bigger ones) can be purchased at stores in the South Bend-Mishawaka area during Welcome Weekend. If you’re tight for space in your car, consider buying a fridge or rug once you get to campus (Amazon Prime works wonders). Many dorm room essentials will also be sold at the Stepan Center during move-in ● Things you don’t need: printer (located in 24 hr lounge and around campus), microwave (one located in each section lounge) THE ESSENTIALS: ● Clothes ● Laundry detergent (Tide Pods highly ● Winter clothes recommended) How’s the weather in South Bend? ● Shower shoes It’s not always miserably cold, but ● Shower caddy it’s usually miserably something. ● Bedding (Twin XL) - A good mattress Come prepared topper can go a long way ● Formal clothes (suit, blazer, khakis) ● School supplies ● Toiletries ● Reusable water bottle ● Towel(s) FOR YOUR ROOM: ● Alarm clock ● Plastic Dressers for Clothes* ● Clothing hangers (most space-efficient way to ● Hangers (Best way to store clothes) arrange your clothes) ● Rug* ● Couch/Futon* ● Television (We have cable!) ● Mini-fridge* ● Gaming system ● Extension cord/Power strips ● Masking tape for posters ● Command Hooks ● Things to put on the wall *Consider buying these things once you get to South Bend and coordinating with your roommate.
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL MOVE IN ARRIVAL DATE: FRIDAY, AUGUST 17, AFTER 9:00 AM 1. Members of Welcome Weekend Staff (dressed in red t-shirts) will come to your car and help you unload your stuff and show you to your room. They can also help you loft or bunk your bed, although if your roommate(s) have not arrived yet, it may be best to wait until they arrive before making any room set-up decisions. 2. Come inside to the main desk. There, you will fill out a registration card and get your room key. 3. Meet your RA. He is in charge of your section and will be a great resource for everything and anything. They should be around when you arrive to answer any questions. 4. Once you unload your stuff and meet your roommates, it is a good idea to get your student ID card. Then, you can head out to town or to the Fall Mart in Stepan Center to buy whatever you might need in your room. 5. Check the signs in the main lobby for more information about Welcome Weekend events. The whole move-in process may seem hectic and confusing, but there will be plenty of people around the hall to help you out and make you feel welcome. Within a day or two, you will feel right at home. Welcome Weekend Staff will be wearing red t-shirts with the Keough name proudly displayed on the front. If you need help with something throughout the move-in process, be sure to find one of us.
WELCOME TO KEOUGH HALL YOUR ROOM, SECTION, AND FLOOR THE ESSENTIALS OF YOUR ROOM: ● The bed: your room will have a bed frame and a mattress. The mattress is a Twin-XL (80 inches), so make sure you purchase the correct sheets. (It’s a good idea to bring a couple sets of sheets, since washing sheets can be a pain.) Many Roos opt to purchase a mattress topper to make your sleeping experience even more enjoyable. The furniture is modular, so beds can be bunked on top of each other, or lofted on top of your wardrobe and desk (the Welcome Weekend Staff can help you with lofting.) Your room comes with a sink, medicine cabinet, and mirror. ● The wardrobe: You and your roommate will each get an open wardrobe with a hanging rod and a drawer. You should bring hangers to store clothes in your dresser. It is also a good idea to buy some stackable plastic drawers, as all of your clothes will probably not fit in the dresser. ● The desk: Each of you gets a desk and a chair. ● The layout: You will live in either a double (you and a roommate in one room) or in a 3-room quad (two bedrooms and a common room shared between four roommates.) See the next pages for the floor plan of a typical room as well as pictures of typical doubles and quads. YOUR SECTION: ● Each floor of Keough is split up into two sections: the A section and the B section (except for the 1st floor, which only has one section: 1A). For example, rooms 200-227 make up 2A, and rooms 230-259 make up 2B. Each section has an RA, section lounge, and study room. There’s a great sense of community within each section, and plenty of events in Keough are section-based (such as section dinners, section sports, and more.) See the next pages for the floor plans of Keough. YOUR FLOOR: There are four floors in Keough. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors have an “elevator lounge” with comfortable couches and flat screen TVs.
