Google Search
• Google Search is the most used search engine on the
Web with 92.74% market share as of October 2018 and
handling more than 3.5 billion searches each day
• The order of search results returned by Google is based,
in part, on a priority rank system called PageRank
• Google indexes hundreds of terabytes of information
• For websites that are currently down or otherwise not
available, Google provides links to cached versions of
the site, formed by the search engine's latest indexing of
that page
• Additionally, Google indexes some file types, being able
to show users PDFs, Word documents, Excel
spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, certain Flash
multimedia content, and plain text files

Organic vs. Paid Search Results
• Google and most search engine companies
make a majority of their revenue from selling
advertising in their search results
• Consequently, the top result you see might not
be the best result
• Paid Results will usually appear on the top and
sides of results
• Advertisers pay for top positions

Google Search Operators
• You can use search operators to find exactly
what you’re looking for
• Search operators narrow your results to a particular
site, date, or result type
• You can use operators to find a specific file,
news article, person or just about anything else
• Remember, search operators can be combined
to get more specific and relevant results
• For example, “budget +manufacturing filetype=.xlsx”
would give you Excel files that are budgets and
include the term manufacturing

• “Weather” will give you the
current weather and forecast for

• Google Finance allows you to keep an eye on

• You can monitor specific assets and you can also

Google Flights
• Google Flights is an online flight booking search
service which facilitates the purchase of airline
tickets through 3rd party suppliers
• You can search for flights across all major
airlines both domestic and abroad
• You can filter results based on price, airline,
number of stops and more
• You can also search and book hotels right inside
Google search. For example, “Hotels in New
York for next Monday”

Google Image Search
• Google Images allows a user to search the web for photos,
graphics, clip art, or any other type of image
• Additionally, you can do a reverse image search which will
allow the user to find webpages that match or are similar
to an uploaded image
• The search can be refined to only show images of a
particular type, size, category, color, resolution, etc.
• Very useful for finding images for presentations,
documents, web pages, or anything else requiring graphics
• It is the responsibility of the user to ensure they properly
license an image found using Google Image Search

Ski & Snow Report
• Google Search can even give you the latest
snow conditions for your favorite mountain
• It will show you which lifts are open, snow
depth, which trails are open, a weather
forecast and more
• To access the snow report, just search a
location with the words snow report in
the query

Dining And Restaurant Searching
• Google Search can give you recommendations on where to
eat or detailed information on specific restaurants
• You can search for dining options in a specific area and/or
for a specific cuisine
• When you select a restaurant, it will provide location and
contact information. It can also let you know the selected
restaurant will be busy or slow for a particular time. You
can browse photos submitted by other users or provided
by the restaurant. It will also show you reviews provided by
other users.
• Find your next meal out by using search terms such as
“restaurants in Los Angeles, CA” or “Pizza near Long Beach,
CA” or “Open Restaurants Near Me”

Calculator Or Conversion
• Google can do all sorts of calculations for you
• For example, “25 * 5 / 12 + 3” would result in 13.41
• Google can also perform a large number of unit
conversion including from imperial to metric,
data transfer, currency translation and more

• If it doesn’t recognize the spelling of a word it
will always recommend alternative words
• Additionally, you can also ask for a detailed
definition of a word by adding the word
“define” in your search term

• Google Trends analyzes the popularity of top
search queries in Google Search across various
regions and languages
• The website uses graphs to compare the search
volume of different queries over time
• Really interesting tool to see what the world is
searching for
• Can be useful for a business to see the
terms customers are using when searching for
an organization

• Google Assistant is an artificial intelligence‐powered virtual
assistant developed by Google that is primarily available
on mobile and smart home devices
• It can perform a wide range of personal assistant tasks such
as making restaurant recommendations, make reminders,
send messages or even add things to your Netflix queue
• Coming soon: Google Duplex, an extension of Google
Assistant that allows it to carry out natural conversations by
mimicking human voice
The assistant can autonomously complete tasks such as
calling a hair salon to book an appointment, scheduling a

• Google Maps provides a route planner, allowing users to find
available directions through driving, public transportation,
walking, or biking
• Google has partnered globally with over 800 public
transportation providers to adopt General Transit Feed
Specification (GTFS), making the data available to 3rd parties
• Google Traffic offers traffic data in real‐time, using a colored map
overlay to display the speed of vehicles on particular roads.
Crowdsourcing is used to obtain the GPS‐determined locations
