- June 27, 2021 / Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Parishioners, As I menƟoned on Sunday at Mass, we are so blessed to have our Special Needs community here at St. Luke. We were all thrilled to gather again without masks and to watch our beloved friends enjoy being together and having fun. A big thank you all of our Special Needs Leadership and our many, many volunteers who made this a special evening. It was fabulous to have Bishop Kevin Sweeney at our liturgy last Thursday! We wish our young people God’s grace and blessings as they conƟnue their journey of faith. A big thank you to Maureen, Nina and all of our catechists. Thanks to our musicians, Lenny, Dan and Ally who conƟnue to make us very proud. We are blessed in our four sacristans, Rhonda, Jeannie, Lynn and Terry. I am so appreciaƟve of the hard work they did in preparing and decoraƟng the church and to Mike Mc for his hard work in seƫng and re-seƫng the chairs in a safe and social distanced manner. CongratulaƟons to Jack Murphy, our parishioner who received his Eagle Scout Award last Sunday. ChrisƟne and Dennis invited me back to their home for a lovely gathering. I have enjoyed geƫng to know the Murphys and many of the St. Luke parishioners in a relaxed and pleasant seƫng. I became friends with Hank and BeƩy Daalemen through a lovely dinner party that Pete and Jeanne Ferriso held in my honor shortly aŌer I was appointed to St. Luke two years ago. I then became close with Hank and BeƩy’s daughter, Beth and her husband, Bill Csipkay and their children, Mike and Ann and Ann’s Įancée, Mike. Hank was a strong Catholic man of faith. He and BeƩy were acƟve parishioners for 25 years and have truly leŌ their mark on our community. It was my privilege to prepare Hank for eternal life and to celebrate his funeral mass on Saturday, June 19th. Our prayers and love surround BeƩy and their family during this diĸcult Ɵme. This Saturday, I celebrated a funeral mass for Larry O’Brien, our beloved parishioner. Larry amongst other things carved the beauƟful CelƟc Cross that adorns the entrance to the church. He was a holy, talented, humble and loving man. I also celebrated the funeral for his son, Dr. Michael O’Brien, who died in Arizona several months ago. Michael was a talented doctor who impacted the lives of many. We send our prayers and love to Eleanor, Larry’s wife and their family. I am happy to share the following note from MaryJo on behalf of our Special Needs Community. St. Luke Special Needs Ministry team turned an ordinary evening into an evening Extraordinaire! We would like to thank Chester Meats, Long Valley Fire Department, Washington Township Police Department, Long Valley First Aid Squad, Mike Wozniak, Rhonda Donovan, Peter Angus, Randy Backer, Lou Ferraro's band, Garden Club of Long Valley, Big John Tractor, God Squad, the imported crew from Buīalo, Rochester, and Syracuse, and the incredible adult and teen volunteers. The event would not have been possible without all your help. A very special thank you to Fr. Owen for his conƟnuous love and support of the Special Needs Ministry. Most of all, THANK YOU to our awesome Special Needs Ministry friends, parents, and caregivers for making the Hawaiian dance an event to remember. You are amazing and we love you all!

WWW.STLUKEPARISHLV.COM / 908-876-3515 -4 Cultivating Catholic Disciples Maureen Murtagh, Director of Religious EducaƟon maureen@stlukelv.org / 908-876-3515, ext. 16 “You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all; and you show that you are a letter of Christ, prepared by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God.” 2 Corinthians 3:2 Congratulations and God bless our newly confirmed teens! Confirmation is about deepening your relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and how to incorporate this belief into your everyday life. It’s about faith, hope, love, and courage. The Spirit you were given in Baptism is sealed and strengthened in Confirmation. The Spirit’s fruits are identifiable: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The gift of the Spirit is God’s love creating, animating, and bonding us together. It is God’s very life toward us, for us, with us, and within us. Our call is to participate in all creating, animating, bonding, and uniting expressions of His perfect and divine love so that we become His signs of reconciliation and peace. This is how God is seen and touched and heard. We are all incorporated into the body of Christ and each of us is given an equal share in the mission of God’s Word and Spirit. It is up to you to accept your Baptismal responsibility and understand that ministry is rooted in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and calls for living your life understanding yourselves as being part of God’s family, not set apart from them. The gift of the Holy Spirit, God living in us, gives us, again and again, the faith, the courage to walk the path moving among all the roadblocks that will come your way. It is hope that will help you and love that will keep you going – knowing that you share in the gift of God’s life here and now. May you come to know God’s love and the peace His love can bring you. May Jesus bring you hope and may the Holy Spirit continue to strengthen your faith every day of your lives. Special Needs Ministry’s Hawaiian BBQ and Dance Over 150 guests enjoyed a night together Įlled with fun, food, dancing and laughter.
