In the event of a temporary facility closure, this in-person class will move online. There will be no refunds due to this change. Singer-songwriter Kimberly Sunstrum is a heart-stopping performer. Her song writing is deep, evocative, and powerful. An inspired blend of the music she listened to growing up in Sub-Saharan Africa and Canada - classic R&B, South African pop, old-time country and 70’s Motown - she weaves them together exquisitely. She writes about the world as she sees it with a powerful poetry and grace. Mixed-race identity, feminism, queerness, love, and family are reflections of her life and constant themes in her songs. Sunstrum has performed in multiple festivals/showcases; RBC Bluesfest, Ottawa Jazz Fest, Westfest, MEGAPHONO, Nuit D’Afrique CBC Showcases, Pride Events. She performs annually on the Soul Train Cruise, performing amidst legends like Gladys Knight, The Commodores, Chakah Khan. Sunstrum was nominated for the Colleen Petersen Songwriting award (2018) and for songwriter of the year in the 2019 Ottawa FACES awards. Sunstrum’s second album, ‘The Slow Sprint’ was released on November 16th 2019 at the National Arts Centre to a sold out crowd. The album is an authentic and a pleasing new chapter in her career.
