A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT Hopefully by now you have heard that the Club is in Lockdown along with all the residents of Greater Sydney. Unfortunately, no meetings, no regular ride days until we are advised to the contrary. Our Annual Rally has been cancelled for the second year in a row. At the time of writing I cannot say if our Annual General Meeting in August will be on and if we can hold the Annual Show Day in September. Its certainly not a great time but I trust that you are keeping well and perhaps spending some time on those motorcycle projects or putting extra polish on those alloy items. See you all soon. Pete EDS DESK Welcome to our long overdue Magazine. We sure are living in interesting times with the CoVID-19 pandemic reaching far and wide...affecting all our lives in some way or another. But we move on...hopefully. So lets discuss MotoGP. At about the half way mark in the season and the Blue Yamaha’s are proving fast and in the hands of Quatararo, he’s leading the championship. Marquez Snr is back and showing glimpses of his former self, winning the German GP at a track where he has won plenty. But the next week showed he has a long way to go to be back to where he was. Aussie Jack Miller is having a hard time finishing near the pointy end...qualifying is going OK and he rarely misses the front row but when the flag drops he inevitably drifts backwards...finishing in the top 10, but as a Ducati Factory rider more is expected...he has won a few races so he’s not lacking ability, lets hope they find the gremlins and he can show his true potential. The big surprise (to some) is Moto2 rider Remy Gardner, winning races regularly and if not winning, on the podium...thats Championship material, he’s leading the Championship and with a ticket to MotoGP next year is showing the others how its done. Fingers crossed he can bring it home. On the otherside World Superbike (SBK), the Yamahas are doing well too, in the hands of Toprak Razgatlıoglu, leading the championship ahead of Jonathon Rea...which in itself is a huge statement. Rea is almost unbeatable but the Turkish rider is taking it to him and actually making a race of it. Only 4 rounds in, the Ducati of Redding needs to start showing some speed if he wants to put his hat in the ring this year! Always happy to get your comments.

GENERAL MEETING NOTES - Mon 14th June 2021 MINUTES OF THE M.T.M.R.P.C. GENERAL MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 14 JUNE 2021 AT THE PITT TOWN SPORTS CLUB....continued General Business: The Club regrets to advise that our dear club member Alan Phillips passed away in Hawkesbury Hospital on Thursday 10 June. He will be sadly missed; he organised many club show days and was a great supporter of the club. Secretary David Stimson presented a warm tribute to Alan, noting “You would be battling to find a nicer person, with a dry sense of humour and a wry smile”. Flowers were sent to his wife Julie from the club. The funeral will be held at Castlebrook at 2.00 pm this Friday 18 June. President Peter Drury advised that our Annnual General Meeting in August will see all positions declared vacant, with some frontline officers planning to retire at that time. All members are welcome to offer to serve the Club by standing for election. Kevin Offord shared the tale of a spare trailer wheel, found by the roadside, which turned out to be the one missing from the Club’s trailer. Dave Howe has repaired it! Dave Howe / Clyde Ikin and Joe Moellers outlined important matters concerning requirements for Historic Registration. Our club is committed to the Log Book Scheme and the general advice is “If in doubt fill it out” if intending to use the bike for events that you would have difficulty proving (on the Day) that is for another club’s event rather than a MTMRPC (our club) approved ride. Rally meeting update – Garry Appleyard still needs marshals and raffle prizes. Kath Toovey also gave an overview of how a Rally works and urged all members to take part in some way. Joe Moellers urged all members to enter! Entries close on 9 July. Trevor Toovey asked when there will be a Magazine; David Stimson called urgently for volunteers to assist, Jeff Farrugia put up his hand. Lucky Door Prizes (random numbers from attendance list chosen by member of Pitt Town Staff) – Peter Drury, Mark Gorsuch, Michael Powell Raffle Winners – Gavin Sullivan, Nic Farrugia, Eric Darmenia, Les Hyatt, Nic again (“redraw”), Garry Appleyard, Mark Gorsuch, Peter Stone Note: Club web site – send photos etc to Cephas at : crodgers@jerahtech.com.au There being no further business, the meeting closed at 9:08pm Next Club Meeting will be held on Monday 12 July 2021 at 8pm at Pitt Town Sports Club.

Notes from Historical & Classic Vehicle Seminar Notes from CMC Seminar on the Historical Vehicle Scheme (HVS) and the Classic Vehicle Scheme (CVS) Attended by Joe Moellers (MT delegate), Clyde Ikin and David Howe Both the HVS and CVS are for vehicles over 30 years old. CVS is for vehicles that have been modified. Macquarie Towns MRPC is a log-book registered club with the RMS. Through our affiliation with the Council of Motor Clubs (CMC) our members can also access CVS registration. As of the pt October 2018 the log book scheme trial ended and it became permanent. All riders/drivers must carry Certificate of Operations (COP-purple card) and logbook. NB Both the new COP and new logbook show your club membership. If you still have the old paper form, carry your club membership card to prove membership. No maintenance runs or rides up to 20km radius. Must fill out the logbook. As we are a logbook registered club there is no daybook. This may change as some car clubs want both. Club sanctioned rides are allowed without using the logbook. But if you deviate to do something or see someone that is not on the ride, fill out the logbook. Invitation rides from other clubs are approved by the RMS but you may need to carry proof that MTMRPC has accepted the invitation (in club minutes) and that you are on a ride with that club. Secondary clubs are also approved but the RMS does not list them on the COP or their computer so it might be better to use the logbook rather than argue after you have been questioned The log book entry is for that day only. If you are still riding at midnight, you must complete another entry. IF IN DOUBT FILL IN THE LOGBOOK! If you change engines you need to fill out a 1021 form at the RMS. If someone else rides your HVS registered bike then make sure they have the logbook and COP. Not financial = not registered and not insured. ($2200 fine and 4 points) Notes from CMC Seminar on the Historical Vehicle Scheme (HVS} and the Classic Vehicle Scheme (CVS} As of 1st January, if you have not paid your fees and you have a HVS or CVS registered vehicle it becomes unregistered. This happens regardless of whether we have a period to renew membership I It has been recommended by the CMC that our club advise the RMS if we have any unfinancial members with HVS or eve registered vehicles. Apparently two clubs have lost their registration to the HVS scheme due to repeated offences of approving vehicles not eligible. The RMS are checking on clubs so hence our inspectors have to be careful and may need to ask questions. The onus is on the owner to prove that the vehicle is eligible. HVS vehicles should be as close as possible to original condition as possible. • Safety features such as indicators, seat belts etc are acceptable • Period options are also acceptable (within 2-3 years?) If an HVS vehicle is modified it must be registered as a CVS vehicle. NB: MTMRPC will have to change our constitution to formalise the position of Registrar and Deputy Registrar and other changes.
Classic Vehicle Scheme (CVS) For an initial CVS registration, your vehicle will require a blue slip, no matter what registration the vehicle is currently on. If vehicle is significantly modified it may need a Vehicle Safety Compliance Certificate (VSCC - Engineers Certificate), refer to VSI 6. For all renewal registrations, you will only require a pink slip. You will need to have your 1835 form stamped only by your primary club Registrar, then the original 1835 form along with a gmy of the blue slip/pink slip will need to be mailed to ACMC, PO Box 419, Bexley NSW 2207. You will also need to pay ACMC an administration fee of $30, which can be paid by cheque/money order or EFT. Paperwork will be processed upon confirmation of payment. For EFT: A/C Name: ACMC NSW LTD BSB: 633 108 ACC Number: 157374299 Please ensure your EFT payment is adequately identified by using your Surname plus initial if a common surname such as Smith/Jones etc. Once paperwork is returned to the member, you can then proceed to a Service NSW Centre. PRESIDENTS RUN 2021 - June 2021 THE 2021 PRESIDENT’S RUN TO COWRA OR THE COLDEST WEEKEND OF THE YEAR Millthorpe Railway Station Saturday 15th May 2021 was set months ago as our day for the start of this year’s Presidents Run. Destination, Cowra in the central West of New South Wales. Of course, it’s not just about the destination but more about the journey and this year’s run did not disappoint. As scheduled an intrepid group left pretty much on time from the Scottish Restaurant at McGraths Hill. Thanks too to those who turned up to see us on our way. The group comprised of 15 motorcycles: Reg Taylor Suzuki 1000 V Strom Greg and Debbie Thatcher Triumph Thunderbird Greg Uren T120 Triumph Steve Runnalls Suzuki 650 V Strom Paul Smith T120 Triumph Peter Stone Kawasaki GPX Ray Stanfield Kawasaki GPZ 900 (Historic Rego) Gary Appleyard Moto Guzzi 850 Breva Michael Powell Ducati Streetfighter John Stein and Ferne Thompson BMW 1200R Eric Darmenia Moto Guzzi California Dick Arter and Janet Triumph Tiger Karen Drury Suzuki 650 Boulevard Fran Mead BMW K1100 Sidecar who joined us at Cowra And myself on my Honda ST1300 Pan European
PRESIDENTS RUN 2021 - June 2021 Continued...There were some people in Cars too such as Kathleen and David Stimson, Kay and Roland Van Soest and with Jo and Michael Hall (from Portland) joining us at Millthorpe for lunch. Cars are always welcome and I was assured that in keeping with the event they would keep their windows down, vents open and heaters off. Then there was Jeff and Nic too who offered to tow a backup trailer which gave the riders a piece of mind in case of machine or rider breakdown! BIG Thanks to Jeff for offering this service. First stop morning tea at the Lithgow Workers Club gave us respite and refreshment after crossing the Blue Mountains via the Bells Line of Road which was very blustery and cold. Second stop Millthorpe for lunch, again windy with some squally rains plus quite cold. Thankfully I had some heated handlebar grips but Karen on the longest ride of her life (and in difficult conditions) did not have any such features but tackled the elements all the same. It was warmer riding than standing around waiting actually. Again, the car people assured me that they had their windows down and vents open! After lunch our journey was to take us through obscure locations such as Spring Hill, Panuara, Errowanbang, and Burnt Yards. Some riders found themselves low on fuel so we found a 24 hour station at Mandurama which gave the riders a challenge in working out the pumps and payment system!! Onward and ever onward we all found our way to Cowra and a warm shower and rest prior to dinner at the Cowra Services Club. For one rider though they did not get to enjoy that warm shower nor dinner. The shock phone call came through that our Club’s Membership Officer, Ferne Thompson, had fallen off the pillion seat of the stationary BMW to the hard concrete roadway of their Motel in which she and John Stein were to be staying and broke her leg. She basically tripped getting off and never even got into the Motel’s reception area! Bugger for Ferne… o off to Cowra hospital in a an ambulance and later to be transferred to Orange Hospital, Ferne’s adventure had become a NIGHTMARE. Ferne Thompson seen here in black helmet, all in one piece at this stage!
PRESIDENTS RUN 2021 - June 2021 Continued...As I write this Ferne is recovering after surgery in Orange hopefully to return to Sydney by the next weekend. The diners were all gobsmacked of this news and would now continue on their adventure without her. Sunday dawned with a great frost over all the motorcycles and cars. A support party left Cowra early to travel directly to Orange to check on Ferne’s welfare while the rest of us enjoyed a peaceful sunny morning to check out the various sites around Cowra such as the Japanese Gardens, the Prisoner of War camp and the Railway Museum. Some of the Group even found the Peace Bell and gave it a BONG or two. Departing Cowra at 1.00pm we then to the travelled to Blayney but via Gooloogong, Canowindra, Cargo and Orange completing a full circle through to Millthorpe and thence Blayney. Dinner that night was at the Royal Hotel which was excellent. Paul Smith and I think Debbie Thatcher ordered the Roast Chicken for dinner which must have been the largest roasts I’ve seen. Monday dawned not so cold and the sun even came out before Lithgow. The company was great, the scenery exceptional and the cold weather will just make it more memorable. All of our thoughts are with Ferne who we hope will make a smooth recovery. Thanks to all who rode with me. It was my pleasure. Peter. Pic from the Bathurst Rally earlier in the year - Chifley Dam

Vale - Alan Phillips - June 2021 Alan with wife Julie and their Kawasaki ZR1 1000 It is with sadness that I must write about a long-standing Club member and friend Alan Phillips who passed away in June following a long illness. Alan loved motorcycles since a young age and was meticulous in having his eclectic collection in the very best condition they could be. Whether it be BSA, Harley Davidson, Suzuki, Honda or Kawasaki all were presented better than new. ‘Outstanding’ would be a word to describe each of them. Many members would have first met Alan at the many Club Show Days that he and his family of helpers ran. Recent Covid Lockdowns presented no problems to Alan as his preferred place to be was in his shed with all of his projects. Alan will be greatly missed.

Sunday morning ride - bit of dirt bit of tar... Started at .7.30am Sunday morning..nice and chilly...around the 4-5 degrees...this place called the Cafe in Glenorie...its a bar at night and a breakfast place in the morning...lots of cyclists both of the pedal type and hooligan motorcyclists and then there was us...5 Blokes looking for some dirt action...me...looking for a nice bit of fresh air...some nice roads I haven’t been on before...and a nice snack for lunch and then a leisurely ride home on the mighty XR250. So its 2 KTM690 adventure bikes with what looked like 60 litre tanks...a newish looking WR450 larger tank attached...almost brand new 700 Tenere...twin cylinder...300 plus KM range and me on the XR250...maybe 150km range...but we will find out I suppose...never tested the range on the little girl...but here we go... Snack for breakfast...nice hot sausage roll...apple juice...and away we go to Wisemans...I left home filled up...so I topped up at Wisemans as did another of the big tank KTM’s... Over the double Ferry at Wisemans...turn left...I normally go right so new territory...thats what I was looking forward too...nice dirt roads...still wet from last nights bit of rain...keeping the dust down ...tearing along at around the 80 mark...I am about in the middle of our group behind the WR...once the roads start to dry out and the sun gets to them the dust starts...I drop back a bit from the blue bike as the dust is hard to see thru...lucky I brought the new adventure helmet with the nice visor ...only eating a bit of dust thru the mouth vent...still tearing along at around 80ks’...having a few slides on the front tyre, as I don’t have a full knobby on the front like the others...they obviously know where we are going and whats in store...we come to some nice bit of tar road and the speed increases...the big bikes disappear into the distance...I just keep changing gears trying to keep up...the XR is running well...noisy as hell with the pipe on it, but really no louder than the KTM’s with their aftermarket pipes, still...maybe ear plugs might be a good option...anywhooo...we pull over after about 5k’s of tar...and head up this hill that says lookout...nice...still tar...then dirt...then sand...nice...and my front tyre option is working overtime now...but all good...just look for the harder packed dirt...down this bush track...single lane car track...obviously a 4WD track...those subsidence mounds every now and then... getting a bit of air...wheee...plenty of closed gates...get off...open gate..shut gate ...off again... whee...
Sunday morning ride - bit of dirt bit of tar... So we turn up finally at about 1.30pm at a gate on the putty road, not too sure where we are... looks like up the top end after all the twisty bits...closer to Bulga than the half way mark...up the Putty road we go...I am just following at this stage as I have no idea where we are going... but the mighty XR is still going...changing gears...keeping up. We turn right onto a road called “Construction Road” ...man on KTM says this road will be good as its a “maintained road”...stop for a rest...or as we find out to fix the WR...its falling apart...bolts missing from the pipe and rear rack on it...plus a few engine bolts have gone missing...quick check of the Honda...all there...patch up dodgy Yammie...pinch a few bolts from other parts and put in important areas...one of the KTM’s is losing its baffle...lucky for me its way ahead and I can’t hear it....one of the benefits of being slow...so the debate begins... should we head back now...around the 2pm mark...I don’t want to ride in the dark with the miserable excuse for a headlight on the XR...nooooo.....so do we head to grey gums for lunch...I say yes...and the Tenere rider also wants to go for lunch... the other 3 boys want to go down this track...”oh its only 39k’s” they said...we’ll do that in no time...I look up the track and its a decent fire trail...Oh OK...so off we go...road gets a bit overgrown the further we go and we roll to a stop at a gate...thats about 15ks’ into this track... gate says “No Vehicles beyond this point - Bikes Cars 4WD or Caravans - Cameras may be installed for prosecution”...good luck getting a caravan down here me thinks...but nothing can stop us adventurous riders from Sydney...just clear the scrub around the track on the down side and ride around...yeah no problem...its a single track bike they say...I look at the cliff they are standing on...yep single track...bike...me...old fat can’t ride very well...yeah no problem... so I ride around...somehow...ya...so we keep going...its down to a very narrow single track now...and we end up down on a creek bed...landslides have carved off the wall ahead...trees over the track...nothing can stop us...nice creek crossings are at every bend...no people down here for a while...no tracks etc..just ours...some trees we have to go under as they are too big to move...of course its all mud...knee deep...fun and games...lead KTM rider has his phone out taking video, hoping one of us will fall off and he can make his fortune on u-tube...not going to happen I say...especially when I find out...no way am I going down...I already had a spill back on one of the high speed hills...front wheel got caught in a rut and just sort of threw me off...I was going slow...so no biggie...thank god...I have to go to work tomorrow!
Sunday morning ride - bit of dirt bit of tar... So we come across another gate...this one blocking the other end of the track...but I spy my way around this one...they all ride the top track over boulders etc and I sneak under the gate with the help of KTM rider...taking pity on me...I am buggered now...can hardly stand on the pegs...lucky I have the sheepskin on the XR...sore ass too...not working as it should... probably something to do with the rider...sore hands...can hardly hang on...the others bugger off...I thought they were having a rest but when I get there...nobody home...OK...just follow the tracks...we came out on to a sort of oval/park type of thing and I can see a few bikes on the other side...so I follow down there...turn right onto a road and me mate Johnno is waiting for me...follow him around some houses and we arrive at the end of the Putty Road at Bulga Pub....my bike went onto reserve turning onto the road...so about 180’ks...yeah...food. Pub food closed...go to servo next door they’ll serve ya...Good hamburger...some chips and a can of RedBull so I can make it home. Getting dark now...top up the bikes...though the tankers (KTM’s) are at about half tank... and head back at about 4.30pm...this should be interesting...Johnny on the Tenere is leading us home as I suppose he’s been here before and knows the road...so its basically follow the leader...love the twisty part of the Putty road even on a XR250 with the rear knobby and half knobby on the front...she’s turning great on the tar...fanging along...its getting darker...we stop along the Putty road at Grey Gums...can sort of see the shop...but the sun has gone down now.
Sunday morning ride - bit of dirt bit of tar... Just gotta miss any wildlife ...cars, trucks etc...headlight is useless...one of the KTM’s and the WR are behind me and they run with their high beam on...they both have added LED spotlights on the front...and I can see the ground...chasing the other KTM and Tenere...but they basically buggered off up front...shame as I could follow OK but can now almost see nothing till the high beams come on from behind...then they go off when a car comes along... pitch black...100’s....where is the road...high beams come on again...ahhhh....I can see...then they go off again...more cars....pitch black...still doing 100ks...just hoping I am going straight... this is not much fun...I try the high beam switch on my bike...I think I can see the difference... but no one else can...coming down the mountain into Colo...bike runs outta fuel...I have only done 110ks...must not like running at 100+ks...she runs out fast...onto reserve...clutch the bike in 6th gear...no drama...but as the twisty bits increase a few cars come along...lights behind go off...now this is really getting interesting (or just plain scary)...lights come on...I am on the edge of the road on the white line...no drama...stop sooking and ride in the middle... so I calm the speed down to around the 80k mark...as I am going to need to make it a fair way on reserve this time...plus a can’t see anything... so I make it to the BP on top of the hill before Wilberforce...I was waiting for it to run out way before that...so me and the WR top up again...once we get to Wilberforce the streetlights are on and its like normal again...who needs headlights...I do! Made it home at about 6.45pm.
