LES CONFÉRENCES
1 | Le microbiote cutané: état des connaissances, méthodes et techniques,
positionnement de Givaudan Active Beauty Conférence en français

The main point that will be discussed during this talk will be a survey of the main concepts
related to the skin microbiome, the detailed route from sampling to 16S RNA gene analysis,
and finally the development of specific proprietary research works including classical
microbiology as well as modern microbiology.

2 | The new deal: Why keeping a good balance of bacteria is desirable for our
    skin? Conférence en français

Microbiome, Probiotic, Dysbiosis …all these new words are hitting the beauty industry; this
seems to be the new deal. In Cosmetics Amsterdam closed their doors in April and there
were few workshops on Microbiota …. At the ceremony awards among the finalists there
were active for Microbiota. It was impossible to miss, this is a hot field. It was followed right
away by SCC talks in California, in New Jersey and a great congress in Boston.
This presentation by a microbiologist will first feature facts about the resident micro-
organisms on our skin. There will be a press review, articles clips with Microbes on cover of
magazines, in the news, in Indie brands …the buzz …a new wave in cosmetic revolution.
Then there will be a Q/A segment …How do we differentiate and classify the micro-
organisms. How do they organize themselves, how do they communicate? What is the
Quorum Sensing? What is the Suprastratum™, the Biofilm…? How the microbes interact with
    skin? How the skin answers?
The last part will be a two cases presentation. First the hectic life, is it possible that stress
impacts the microbiota? Does it affect health or the beauty of the skin? The second case
is about hacking the communication system used by the microorganisms and
understanding what this could mean for the skin biodiversity and the effect on acneic skin.

3 | Human Skin Microbiome: An Overview and Opportunities to Understand and
Modulate Skin Colonization and Appearance Conférence en anglais

There is a growing importance of the microbiota on the skin, which can be influenced by
both personal care and cosmetics products. An overview of industry and academic
research areas related to the microbiome and metagenome analysis will be
presented. The skin barrier relationship to the microbiome along with anti-pollution
relationship to the microbiome will also be discussed. These topics will describe various
solutions for beauty and well-being through the mechanism of modulating the skin
    microbiome.

4 | Skin Microbiome: Applications in the cosmetic field Conférence en anglais

The microorganisms inhabiting the different ecosystems of our skin interact closely and in a
complex way with the host. The presence of different types of bacteria is affected by many
endogenous and external factors, including the exposure to topical products, such as
cosmetics. Thanks to the development of molecular methods that allow the
characterization of such diverse flora, the sequencing of the bacterial genome can be a
powerful tool to characterize the effects caused by these products on our skin, either
disrupting the skin homeostasis, or improving the skin condition.
