Tēnā koutou katoa,
The Board of Trustees is delighted to announce the appointment of Justin Harper as the next Principal of JPC.

As the colder weather sets in it becomes difficult to maintain our La Sallian zeal for sports practices, preparation
for mid-year exams or even getting to school on time! Please offer what support and encouragement you can to
your children to get them through the next few weeks. Remember we have Homework Club every Monday and
Wednesday from 3:20 pm to 5:00pm to support them. We also have deans and counsellors to talk matters
through if students are in need of support.

We celebrate JPC Day this Wednesday; it is our 35th birthday.

A reminder that the school day commences with Form Time at 8.35am and students are expected to attend in
order to be signed in on the roll, hear daily notices etc. Late students are reminded to sign in at the student
counter. Senior students who bring their own vehicles and park either at Mackillop or on the adjoining streets are
reminded they are not to leave the campus and go to their cars during the school day unless they are have signed
out for an appointment.

The Wednesday Mass, commencing in the school chapel at 8.10am is available not only to students but also
parents and members of the Parish to attend. It is a great way to start the day and to feel part of the JPC whanau.
Please encourage your children to attend.

The photo shoot codes have been distributed. Please ask your child for these. The FREE DELIVERY period
expires at midnight Sunday May 29th.

Our Years 10-13 will have the opportunity to attend the Careers Expo this week. I encourage parents to have a
discussion with their children for their impression on a possible career path which will assist their subject selection
going forward
Nga mihi

LEGEND OF THE LAKE AMAZING RESULTS
On Saturday 21 May “Generation Homes Legend of The Lake”
Open Water Swim Event part of Banana Boat Ocean Swim Series
took place at the Lake Tikitapu, seeing swimmers from all around
the country to come and take part.
This event has been previously postponed from date back in March.
It was a cold andwindy day setting up a challenging conditions for
the brave swimmers taking part.
JPC swimmers from the Swim Rotorua Club have achieved some fantastic results and
showed real tenacity and courage in the choppy waters.
Ryan Logan (14) was first up in a gutsy 3,5km swim around the lake. Ryan achieved
fantastic 2nd placing in his age group in a tough event.
Karolina Joyce (14) swam hard to achieved wonderful 1st overall placing in 1km event.
Her effort saw her get three 1st placings in a three different categories (1st overall, 1st
female, 1st in age group) and it was great to see a local young female swimmer to take out
the whole 1 km event.
Nicky Logan (11) showed real perseverance as the youngest member of the team and
swam for a superb 3rd placing in his age group in the 1km event.

FOOTBALL NEWS
The Girls' First XI Football team had an exciting game against Rotorua Girls High School last week and racked up a
score of 4-0 after an exerting and tremendous effort from their players. The game was held at the Girl's High field and
with much enthusiasm and confidence, they were able to dominate and keep the ball in their half for the majority of
the game.
This was the first game of the season and a great start at that! Special mentions go to Allie Clarke, who kept the
midfielders in check, Melanie Van der Bruggen who was steady in goal, Jasmine Donaldson who was clearing the
back line, Nishali Patel who was fast and speedy up front, Emma Hickson for scoring the opening goal, and
to Kendall Williams who got player of the day for being a consistent strong wall in the defence.

JPC RUGBY NEWS
JPC U14s had an away game at Whakatane High School on Saturday.
The weather was great over at the coast and the conditions were perfect. The team were down a few key role players
and knew they were up against a determined Whakatane opposition. After 10 minutes of defending the Whakatane
side scored the first unconverted try. A few minutes later our JPC boys counter-attacked and scored a brilliant team
effort try with a successful conversion going into the half 7-5 ahead.
The second half both teams were tired after a lot of physical first half rugby. The John Paul boys dug deep and played
with a lot of heart to score another converted try to go 14-5 ahead.
Soon after, Whakatane hit back again with their own driven efforts to score their next try to make it a close 14-10 with
10 minutes to play.
With sustained attack from our boys against Whakatane's try line the pressure mounted and we capitalized on a
Whakatane mistake to get the last try over the line and another successful conversion with the final score 21-10 to
John Paul College.
It was a relentless physical game against Whakatane, but the boys held their composure, worked hard as a team once
again and came away with their win. Great effort U14s let's keep up the momentum.
“Thanks again to the supporters and an early transportation to get over there for a 10.30 kick-off.”
From the Coaching Team.

This week the JPC 1st XV hosted Tauranga Boys College 3XV
at home. The wind was incredibly blustery which was going to
impact on how the game played out. We started the game with
passion which paid off with a try to Heath Buckley in the 7th
minute with Heath converting his own try in a difficult crosswind.
Kaleb Frew scored the first of his three tries in the 19th minute.
We then spent some time defending our line with solid tackles
which TBC managed to break through and get on the scoreboard.
Iha Hepi and Kaleb crossed the line again before the half to see us
leading 22 -7 at the halftime mark. The boys were told to empty the
tank in the second half as the bench would come into play and
that's exactly what they did. Caleb Barker crossed the try line 2
minutes into this half. We then turned to defence as TBC managed
another try. Two well set up quick tries saw Jack Gallon cross
the line for us. Our bench players made the desired impact on the
field and Kaleb scored once again before the end of the game.
Final score 44 -14. Player of the day went to Logan Hawthorne.
Special mentions Kaleb Frew for his 3 tries, Jack G for his 2 tries –
5 in 2 games! Caleb Barker, Iha Hepi, Dylan Meyer and Heath

Next week we are heading to Te Puke to play Te Puke High School 1XV.

I'd also like to say a “huge thank you to Trudy Edwards and all the parents who provided and helped with the after-
match kai”.

Have a great week everyone

ASTROTURF COVER
We are excited to announce the project to cover the Astroturf at JPC has been approved by the Catholic Diocese
 of Hamilton.
Covering the Astroturf will provide shade for our tamariki and rangitahi during the summer, cover from the rain
during the winter and enable more usability of the space for the JPC community.
The Special Project Fund, formally the Development Levy, is the portion of the school contribution that funds this
project supported by the Catholic Diocese of Hamilton.
The next step is for the Diocesan to appoint a project manager to manage the process. We will provide further
