SINCE 2015 FROM OUR BISHOP AND FOUNDATIONS IN EDUCATION EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR HAS AWARDED Dear Friends, $9.5 MILLION We are pleased to share Foundations in Education Inc’s 2018-2019 Annual Report. Your generous support helps to strengthen and transform the mission of Catholic education in OUR the Diocese of Bridgeport. Thank you for making this extraordinary progress possible. IN TUITION ASSISTANCE TO STUDENTS MISSION Your contribution to Foundations in Education Inc is an investment in the nearly 8,000 students enrolled in Diocese of Bridgeport Catholic schools. More than 1,400 students from 20 elementary schools were awarded $2.5 million in tuition assistance so they may benefit from & Foundations in Education is committed to strengthen a transformational Catholic education. Twenty-six Innovation and Leadership Grants were awarded to teachers to promote innovation and leadership development across schools. $230,000 Thanks to the generosity of Paula and Tom McInerney, Foundations in Education works in and transform the mission partnership with the Office of School Superintendent to “Transform the Paradigm of Catholic of Catholic education in Education.” This multi-year initiative began in earnest this year, introducing personalized learning in six schools. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS LEADERS OF TOMORROW PROGRAM Leaders of Tomorrow is a select program of the Bishop’s Scholarship Fund representing students who qualify for BY THE NUMBERS tuition assistance and have been identified by their principals as having strong academics, good character and leadership potential. BISHOP’S SCHOLARSHIP FUND In 2018-2019, BSF awarded 44 students Leaders of Tomorrow awards totaling $201,250. Foundations in Education is proud to administer the Bishop’s Scholarship Fund (BSF) whose mission is to help families afford a Catholic education in Fairfield County. In 2018-2019, BSF awarded 1,380 students tuition assistance totaling $2,540,250. 44 students received scholarships of $5,000 (full tuition), $9,474,095 $2,500 (half tuition) or $1,250 (quarter tuition) Bishop’s Scholarship Fund tuition assistance awarded in first 4 years 2015-2016 $ 2,111,052 “Thank you for giving my family and me this special opportunity. INNOVATION AND LEADERSHIP GRANTS TRANSFORMATIVE INITIATIVES BY THE NUMBERS PROJECTS UPDATE The Innovation and Leadership Grants Program promotes excellence within our Catholic schools by providing Foundations in Education promotes transformative impact on students through donor-driven initiatives. educators grant opportunities funding innovation in classroom teaching and providing support for professional development and leadership formation. Educational software is used to monitor each GLOBAL EDUCATION AT UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD (UK) student’s individual learning path.” -Suzanne Curra, St. Gregory the Great School Principal GRANT HIGHLIGHT A Foundations in Education grant afforded seven highly-motivated Distinguished Scholars at Notre Dame High School the opportunity to immerse themselves in a two-week summer program at University of Oxford. They were enriched with college-level courses aimed at enhancing skills of high school students. Academics were balanced by CHRISTOPHER RIPP EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM Barbara and Peter Ripp’s generous gift established an early childhood education program, piloted at St. Peter nightly activities in and around Oxford. The schedule was punctuated with three day-long excursions to London, Bath School in Danbury, which promotes parents of 3-4 year olds as primary educators of their children. SPRING GALA PREMIERE FUNDRAISING EVENT On April 11, 2019, nearly 300 friends attended the 4th Annual Spring Gala at Woodway Country Club in Darien. Gala honorees included Fairfield University, Barbara and Brad Evans, and the St. Joseph Catholic Academy Faculty. Eighth grade student speaker Joshua Dixon set the tone for the evening with his inspiring testimony on how Catholic education transformed his life. Auctioneer Pat Tully electrified the room with his energy and wit which helped raise $300,000 from one-of-a-kind auction items and Leaders of Tomorrow paddle raise. This year was our most successful event to date! SAVE THE DATE A record $1.3 million was raised overall to help our mission to transform lives through education.
