Early Childhood Parented PLAYTIME (Ages 0 to 5 years) Drop-in, Weekly Program This is a great opportunity for parents, care givers, or grandparents to come and enjoy our Early Learning Centre with their children. This course is designed to allow you and your baby to spend some time together strengthening your bond, while enhancing your baby’s brain development through simple games, songs, finger plays, and movement activities. Child & Youth Programs Evenings SNOWED IN! (Grades 1 to 6) With Want to have some fun while escaping the chilling sub-zero temperatures? In this program imagination and silliness come alive. Children will engage in fun filled winter activities such as crafts and games. This program will enable children to express themselves while improving communication skills, building self-confidence, problem- solving skills. Child & Youth Programs PD Days (continued) STRANGER DANGER (Grades K to 1) Parents know that teaching their children about stranger danger is important, but many are unsure of how to approach the subject while not scaring their children at the same time. Through an interactive DVD, this course will help your child understand the how's and the why’s of staying safe by providing them information about safe adults, unknown adults, the use of code words, and what to do in situations where they may encounter strangers, while still being fun and engaging. Child & Youth Programs Teacher Convention JUNIOR CHEFS & GYM CLASS HEROES (COMBO CLASS) (Grades 2 to 6) Hey parents, do you have a future Chef on your hands? Then have them join us for some crazy culinary creations! This hands-on program will help familiarize young chefs with food choices and delicious taste experiences from start to finish, while learning basic cooking skills and kitchen safety tips. In the afternoon, we will release some energy and enjoy some classics (and not so classic) gym class games, such as: Dodgeball, Tag, Steal the Bacon, Noodle Poppers, and much more. Worry Too Much will teach your child a new and more successful way to think about and manage anxiety. Using how-to steps, drawing, writing, and hands on activities that will help teach children how to reduce anxiety. Adult/Parenting Programs JUST FOR PARENTS Drop-in Program (Childcare available with registration**) Please note: If childcare is required, please register the first Wednesday of the month for the following month. If childcare is not required, no need to register; class is a drop-in! Do you have parenting questions or concerns? Are you looking for some practical strategies to help you with everyday parenting issues? Then Just for Parents is just for you!!! This weekly program provides an opportunity for parents and caregivers to connect and share their thoughts and feelings regarding parenting in a safe and supportive setting. Adult/Parenting Programs(continued) ANXIETY IN CHILDREN Anxiety is a common health concern for children. There are many practical strategies and tools that a parent can utilize to help their child manage anxiety. Learn how to recognize if your child is feeling anxious and how to talk about it with them. As part of the strategies children will learn to recognize their strengths and successes. Our facilitator will guide parent discussions in how to best support their children. St. Albert FRC’s Outreach Program provides organizations the opportunity to host many of our parenting and adult programs at their location and have them tailored towards their clientele’s needs. Topics include, but not limited to: Anxiety in Children; Positive Discipline; Developing Good Sleep Habits; Sibling Rivalry; Worry Too Much, and many more. Outreach courses can be designed for any organization, including: Daycares; Pre-Schools; Schools; Family and Community Support Service Agencies; Family Resource Centre; and Church Organizations. Registration Information Registration is taken on a first come, first serve basis. Payment must be made in full upon registration. Participants must meet the program requirements to register. Registration for programs can be made during our regular office hours, by: *Phone, at 780-459-7377, with Visa or Mastercard, or, *Drop-in, with Cash, Cheques, Visa or Mastercard. Early Childhood program requirements *including toilet training policies* The following requirements are in place for health and safety reasons: Children 3 and over, who are registering for an un-parented program, must be potty- trained. Children attending Discover & Learn, must be in the process of being potty-trained, and must wear a pull-up or diaper, due to sanitation concerns. Our staff will still encourage children to use the washroom. If you require any tips and strategies to accelerate the toilet training milestone, our family support team will be happy to assist you. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate in our parented programs prior to registering their child for an un-parented program. Cancellation Policy** You must notify us a minimum of five working days prior to our program start date to receive a partial refund. An administration fee will be deducted from all refunds. No refunds will be issued less than five working days prior to the course start date. Cancellation of our weekly, members’ only, registered program, Discover & Learn, must be made by noon, the previous working day. *Refunds are not available for this program; however, your child will be moved to another available course date. *Please be advised: we cannot ‘hold’ a credit; credit must be moved to an actual date within the same program calendar year. **Please note: St. Albert FRC reserves the right to combine, postpone or cancel classes due to insufficient registration. Course cancellations may occur due to reasons beyond our control. Full refunds will be issued for courses cancelled due to insufficient registration.
