I’ve done this myself—traveled the length of New Zealand’s North and South Islands. And it remains one of the most memorable trips of my travel career because of the many wonders of this stunning, spectacular country: its snowy alpine peaks, shimmering glaciers, steaming thermal pools, unusual plants and animals, lush rain forests and sophisticated cities. We’ve arranged a full array of local experiences that will show you a New Zealand few travelers see. Plus you’ll travel in the company of geology professor Michael McWilliams. I invite you to join us on a trip I promise you will never forget. BRE T T S. Stanford Faculty Leader Professor M I C H A E L M C W I L L I A M S professor emeritus of geological and environmental sciences at Stanford, is a physicist whose interest in understanding how the earth works led him to pursue graduate degrees in geophysics. He joined Stanford in 1977 and taught undergraduate and graduate classes in geology, geochemistry and geophysics. His favorite teaching experiences have been leading the very popular introductory undergraduate geology class and leading a sophomore seminar on the origin of the universe. Professor McWilliams and his research colleagues measure minute quantities radioactive isotopes to determine the age of minerals. They use these ages to better understand earth’s evolution, the rate of geological “This New Zealand processes, and the history of important earth events such as volcanism, earthquakes, mass experience with extinctions and global climate change.
