Delta Reflections Lighted Boat Parade 2017 By Randy Welch This year was the 36th annual Lighted Boat Parade and it was dedicated in the memory of Lynn Hann who helped organize it for the last 28 years. Marina West has hosted this great event that donates the proceeds to local charities. This was a record year in which 68 boats registered overall for the parade. Not only did we have record boat numbers, best of all, we had record crowds that lined the banks of the San Joaquin River from River Point Landing all the way into downtown Stockton! By the time we got to the I-5 bridge, the crowds were 4 to 6 rows deep on each side. There was live music, food trucks and special viewing events at the Downtown Arena, Waterfront Hotel and Nena’s Restaurant. The Stockton Yacht Club had 13 boats registered and we won the award for the Most Boats Entered from a Club! We had the award presented to us at the Delta Mixer that was hosted at our Yacht Club on December 12th. Also Tim and Debra Greene were awarded 2nd place in their class for the Best Decorated Boat! During the cruise, we hosted for the second time Veteran’s and their families from the local group, “Welcome Home Hero’s”. Fifteen members of the group were on Bob and Beverly Cain’s, Cliff and Sally Kenst’ and Randy and Linda Welch’s boats. Along with them were Bill and Sue Wells from the Delta Chambers and Dave Rajkovich from the USS Lucid Museum. Dozens of guests and members crowded our thirteen boats and partied all the way to downtown and back. When finished, we had another record breaking dinner hosted by Lucy Hamilton with 120 guests. It was quite a night for all and I thank each boat owner who participated and all who came to dinner to make this such a special time for all. Let’s see what we can do next year! News just in from Tina Tremain: The parade brought in over $1,800 for the Women’s Center Youth & Family Services and overall nine Clubs participated. Thank everyone for their help and participation. 8
