St. Tim’s Book Group Our St. Timothy Book Group met recently on Zoom to discuss the book A merican Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. The book received strong reviews from all of our attendees, describing it as “riveting” and “gripping” and rating it a 9.4 on our ratings scale of 1-10. This story is fictional, but based on research, telling the stories of characters who have made the decision to flee the dangers of their homelands in Central America to seek a new and hopefully safer and more promising life in the United States. It chronicles the perils that these hopeful immigrants faced and delves into the emo- tions of leaving home and family behind. The members of our group uniformly hailed the author’s writing, noting that her prose would bring the reader right into the midst of the emotions and dangers that the characters experience on this dangerous journey. Sev- eral noted that they felt drawn into the story, as if they were traveling beside the characters. Many of our mem- bers noted the extreme juxtaposition of these affluent vacation-destination countries, who attract visitors day in and day out, while the people who are native to the region are fleeing that country, seeking a better and safer life. In the end the novel was appreciated for the way it opened our eyes to the plight of people in other parts of the world and helped the reader to put a “face” to the sufferings of these people. Our St. Timothy Book Group meets just once a month, on the last Monday of the month (from 7pm-8:30pm), virtually, through a Zoom meeting. All parishioners are invited to attend from the comfort of your own home (or office, or back yard – wherever you have a Wi-Fi connection). Simply send an e-mail to Colleen Campion (CNCampion@yahoo.com) or call the office, and we will add you to our list to send you the invite to the meeting. Attendance is always on a drop-in basis and new attendees are always welcome! Summertime often brings more time for us to relax and read! Here are our selections for the upcoming months. We hope you will read some and join us for discussion!
