It’s now in its third year 4-5 Hilary Fannin with Rachael English and Nessa O'Mahony 13 and we celebrate the anthology Correspondences, a publication which calls for an end to 4-5 Beyond Borders Book Club: Correspondences* 14 direct provision. Clare Youth Theatre are here again, and we’ve got events for children, 4-5.30 Something Dark with Lemn Sissay 15 young people, and families. You can go to yoga, and book making workshops, as well as 5-7 Mia Gallagher - mark word breath, a Performance* 3 talks on dealing with anxiety, and well-being. And if that wasn’t enough, we have a Burren 5-6.45 The Seven Sisters Poetry Reading* 16 walking tour lined up for you. In a festival first, we have also commissioned writer Mia 6-7 Clare Voices with Mike Hanrahan 16 Gallagher to curate work from the Arts Council Collection which will be exhibited in glór. 6.30-7.30 Gerry Hanberry - On Raglan Road* 16 Mia will write a story based on the art she chose, and she will perform the story at the 8-9.30 Sarah Moss in conversation with Seán Rocks 17 festival. Metamorphosis: Characters in Collision, is the title of the show she has created including works by Alice Maher, Dorothy Cross, and Brian Maguire. Mia Sharon Cahir in conversation with Carla White, and EBCF Artistic Director, Paul Perry, discuss the process of the project – from its genesis, Danne Reed and Niamh Ennis on why change can to its curation, to the writing of Mia’s story. Our aim is to give people the opportunity to be a good thing. As we approach 20 years of direct provision in Ireland, this anthology gathers together writing, photography and visual art by those in direct provision and seeks to create new correspondences between these artists and Irish writers. Those featured include Evgeny Shtorn, Annemarie Ní Churreáin, Stephen Sexton, Hina Khan, Heidar Al- Hashimi, and many more. All proceeds from book sales go to MASI – the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland. A rare chance to see a dramatic reading of the acclaimed one-man play by celebrated performance poet, and 2020 Booker Prize judge, Lemn Sissay. Something Dark tells the story of Lemn Sissay’s upbringing in children’s homes and foster care, and the search for his family and true identity. Originally directed by John McGrath (National Theatre of Wales/ MIF), Something Dark has been performed throughout the world to great critical acclaim. It was adapted for BBC Radio 3, and has been described as ‘stunning.’ Lemn Sissay is a BAFTA nominated award winning writer, international poet, performer, playwright, artist and broadcaster. He was awarded an MBE for services to literature by The Queen of England. Along with Chimamanda Ngoze Adichie and Margaret Atwood he won a Pen Pinter Prize in 2019. They will chat about their influences, their passions, what it takes to be a great journalist and other jobs they have had in the media. Recently, Rosita published her travel memoir and we will hear how these experiences have influences her work. In 2019, Zainab co-launched Beyond Representation which creates visilibity and opportunity for women of colour excelling in their chosen career field. Both will talk about life in the public eye and how they deal with the attention, scrutiny and sometimes the trolls.
