1 Market information The best Black Friday 2020 deals available now and coming soon Officially, Black Friday 2020 arrives on Nov. 27. Unofficially, it's happening right now, and throughout the month of November. For example, Amazon continues to run early deals on Echo devices, many of them matching last month's Prime Day prices. (The Echo Show 8 for $65.) Meanwhile, Walmart's first-of-several early Black Friday sales kicks off this Wednesday, Nov. 4. Among the notable items queued up: Apple AirPods for $99 and a Eufy robot vacuum, also $99. Another one to watch: The 55-inch TCL 4 Series Roku TV for just $148, available Nov. 11. A lot of these prices represent historic lows, so inventory is likely to go quickly. Thus, do not wait for Black Friday if you spot something you want. Best Buy was running an early Black Friday sale last week, but that's mostly done for now. We really liked some of the offerings there, especially the guarantee that none of the prices would be any lower on Black Friday proper. 1 Market information Home Automation Deep Dive: More Residential Dealers Deploy DIY During Pandemic Self-installed security systems, with and without professional monitoring attached, spikes due to COVID-19 challenges on the home front. SSI’s 2020 Home Automation Deep Dive reveals what else is helping offset a slowdown in installed system sales However, these companies are far from immune to the lost or postponed revenues due to fewer installed system sales and slower paying or defaulting customers. Yet there are bright spots to be seen, including rises in interactive and health-related products and services, increases in do-it-yourself (DIY) and do-it-with-me (DIWM) systems, and efficiency gains courtesy of remote system diagnostics, remediation and upgrades. In 2020, 36% of dealers report selling DIY security with professional monitoring, a 57% increase from 2019, while 25% sell DIY security systems without professional monitoring required. That is a higher rate than in all other years. Source: https://www.securitysales.com/automation/home-automation-deep-dive-diy/ PAGE: 3

Main Players 1 Walmart drops plans to use robots for tracking inventory (Reuters) - Walmart Inc said on Monday it has dropped its plans to use roving robots to scan shelves and keep track of inventory, squashing the world's largest retailer's years-long efforts to automate the task. The company said it had ended its partnership with Bossa Nova Robotics Inc, who it had worked with for five years to improve customer experience by using robots to assist shop staff and make their jobs easier. "This was one idea we tried in roughly 500 stores just as we are trying other ideas in additional stores," Walmart said in a statement. Walmart added it would continue to test new technologies and invest in its own processes and apps to track inventory and help move products to shelves as quickly as possible. The supermarket chain began rolling out shelf-scanning robots in 2017 to replenish inventory faster and save employees' time when products run out, as a part of its broader effort to digitize its stores to make shopping faster as it competes with Amazon.com Inc. Walmart, which posted record online sales in its recent quarter, now has more workers walking the aisles to package online orders, extracting new data on inventory problems, people familiar with the situation told the Wall Street Journal, which was the first to report this news.
