Southern Oregon Photographic Association EID Competition Electronic images (EIDs) are submitted via e-mail to the digital administrator prior to the meeting, with a submission deadline of Sunday midnight before the first Tuesday meeting. (See next page for submission instructions.) The "projected" or Electronic (EID) image division has two categories: Manipulated and Traditional. Members are allowed to enter a total of four entries in the EID competition. Each month there is an Assigned Subject (a list of subjects is in the SOPA Newsletter) and an Open category. A maximum of two Assigned and two Open are allowed per mem- ber, within the Manipulated or Traditional categories. The Manipulated Category allows for extensive image modification (layering, com- positing, additions and subtractions of objects, the use of filters, HDR, stitching, infrared, etc.). The Traditional Category allows for minimal editing: The Traditional Category allows: Lens filters: polarizers, neutral density, soft focus etc. In-camera adjustments to vibrance, white balance, sharpness, etc. Cropping and straightening Exposure modification Sharpening and clarity modifications Saturation changes Vibrancy changes White Balance changes Removal of minor distractions Dodging and burning Vignetting The Traditional Category does not allow: Focus stacking Composited Images (images created from combining layers) Addition of elements to the image Substantial changes to portions of the image HDR (including in-camera settings) Panoramic Stitching of multiple images (including in-camera settings) Infrared sensors, filters, or software (including converted cameras) Post processing software (e.g. NIK, Topaz, Silver Effects Pro, purchased presets, Light room presets, artistic or painting filters)
Southern Oregon Photographic Association EID Submissions 1. When submitting an EID, your e-mail is your entry form. 2. Your images must only be in .jpg format (not .jpeg format!). 3. Send your images to: sopadigitalsubmissions@gmail.com along with a copy (cc) to EID Chair, Al Ingersoll: alanw46@q.com 4. Only two images per category (Assigned and Open) are allowed. Within those categories, members may choose Manipulated or Traditional. 5. Resolution should be set at 72 dpi. 6. Images may not be larger than 500 kb. 7. The dimensions permitted are a maximum of 1024 pixels horizontal and a maximum of 768 pixels vertical. (Example, for a standard 4x6 vertical image, the maximum dimensions would be 768 pixels vertically, and 512 pixels hori- zontally.) Slide projectors have a square window and can be flipped vertically or horizontally. However, electronic projectors have a rectangle window. SOPA's projector uses 1024 x 728 resolution. The image must fit into this window (1024 x 728). Therefore, the horizontal dimension must not be greater than 1024 pix- els. The vertical dimension must not be greater than 768 pixels. Smaller images are acceptable. EID Naming Guidelines Traditional images will use the designator A--for Assigned, and B--for General. Manipulated images will use the designator C--for Assigned, and D--for General. Using EID Chair, Al Ingersoll, as an example, his Manipulated Assigned entry would look like this: sop-ingea5590-C2-Sunset over Bandon.jpg • sop = the name of the club (abbreviated from SOPA), followed by a hyphen (-). • ingea = the first four letters of Al's LAST name (inge) plus the first letter of Al's FIRST name (a), plus the last four digits of his phone number (5590), followed by a hyphen (-). • C2 = His second entry in the Manipulated Assigned category • Sunset over Bandon.jpg = the title of Al's image. Note: The words in the title do not have to run together (e.g. sunsetoverbandon)--there may be spaces and capitalized words).
