Disabled Accommodation: MalaMala prides itself on
being one of the few safari destinations which is able
to offer a fully equipped disabled suite. Game drives
are conducted safely in a suitably equipped landrover
with a wheelchair ramp
JUNIOR RANGER PROGRAMME
Children’s Policy and Rates: Age restrictions do exist and are applied in the interests of personal safety as
well as the comfort of other guests.
MalaMala Camp welcomes children of all ages. Children under 12 years, sharing accommodation with full
paying adults, pay the quoted child tariff. Children aged four and under are not permitted to dine in the
boma in the evenings. Special dining arrangements can be made and baby-sitting services are provided on
request, at a nominal charge. Children aged four and under are not permitted to join the game drives, unless
their parents / party have reserved a private game drive vehicle at the additional cost.
Family rooms may be used as a triple or a quad room to accommodate children – the sitting room area
is converted to a bedroom utilising single beds.
On arrival, the ranger hosting the family will assess the age, enthusiasm and independence of the children and
in collaboration with the parents and guardians, various activities will be offered.
A MalaMala backpack including an interactive checklist are given to each child between the ages of 4 & 12.
The ranger hosting the family will, throughout their stay, offer some of the following activities:
1. The tracking of various animals from their spoor markings
2. Teach basic survival skills (where to find water, what
plants are good to eat, medicinal uses of plants, etc.)
3. Warning signs of dangerous animals and first aid
for emergency situations in the bush
4. A bush breakfast enables children to learn how to
make fire and to participate in the meal
preparation
5. Children are able to communicate on the radio (out
of game drive times)
6. Special meals and “ration packs” are prepared
for children
7. Children’s movies, wildlife movies (filmed on
MalaMala) and board games are available in camp
The MalaMala Sable Camp does not accommodate children under the age of 12, unless the entire camp is
reserved exclusively.
MalaMala Rattray’s Camp does not accommodate children under the age of 16.
PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI VEHICLE
We have a dedicated photographic safari vehicle, which comprises:
• 3 rows of 2 bucket seats
• A sliding camera mount per row
• Bean bags for camera stability
• Storage boxes for camera equipment
• Under-seat lighting
• A dedicated photographic ranger
Rate: 2020: US$ 770.00 per vehicle per day
(midday to midday) on an exclusive basis
Please request the photographic safari vehicle on
confirmation of your reservation to ensure
availability on arrival at camp.
THE DEFINITVE AFRICAN EXPERIENCE
This popular and exciting, 7 night wildlife package including MalaMala and Mashatu Game Reserves (two
different safari area’s in two different countries) combines easily with Cape Town, Livingstone and
Johannesburg using a combination of charter flights and scheduled flights.
The itineraries below include 3 or 4 nights at Mashatu Main Camp & 4 or 3 nights at MalaMala Camp for a 7
night safari package. We are also able to provide inclusive quotes using Mashatu Tent Camp, MalaMala Sable
Camp or MalaMala Rattray’s Camp as alternatives. The order of the itinerary is flexible as the charter flight
operates in both directions on a Thursday and a Sunday.

Rate inclusions
• The charter flight may be operated in a variety of aircraft depending on the number of guests confirmed on
the flight.
• Minimum 2 guests. Please contact us for separate quotation for groups of more than 9 pax.
• Luggage allowance: strictly 15kg (33lbs) + 6kg (13 lbs) carry on.
• Accommodation must be confirmed for a minimum of 2 nights at MalaMala Game Reserve or Mashatu
Game Reserve in order to utilize these flights.
• Bookings must be confirmed 1 month prior to departure to guarantee availability.
• Guests must have the relevant visas and travel documentation for South Africa and Botswana.
• Reservations must be made via email with packages@journeysofdistinction.co.za
• Cancellation Policy: 50% cancellation less than 30 days prior to arrival
• Bad weather policy: in the event that the charter flights are cancelled as a result of bad weather,
alternative transport will be provided for, but no refund will be applicable for the cancelled flight.
We strongly recommend that guests are covered by a travel insurance policy to

A one hour road transfer is available between Skukuza Airport and MalaMala Game Reserve and can be
reserved through MalaMala Game Reserve, at a cost of US$ 44.00 per person one way.
FEDERAL AIR: DIRECTLY INTO MALAMALA GAME RESERVE
Federal Air operates a twice daily shuttle service between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) and
MalaMala Game Reserve.
Check-in for Federal Air flights is at the Federal Air kiosk, located in the multi-story parkade adjacent to the
car rental companies.

Departure between 10:30 and 11:30 with estimated arrival at MalaMala between 11:30 and 13:00
Departure between 12:30 and 13:30 with estimated arrival at MalaMala between 14:30 and 15:30

Reservations for Federal Air flights to and from Johannesburg and MalaMala Game Reserve should be made

Please ensure you receive an updated road map and directions from the reservations office on
confirmation that guests will be travelling by road / self drive. The best route to travel within the
reserve may change depending on weather conditions. It is essential that the guests speak with the
camp reception prior to entering the reserve to receive their advice. For your safety and comfort
please ensure that guests have entered the Sabi Sand Wildtuin before 16h00.
It is important that you call the camp from Hazyview.

The MalaMala Game Reserve is a 6-hour drive from Johannesburg via Hazyview. Access to MalaMala is via
the Sabi Sand Wildtuin, utilizing Shaw’s Gate.
There is a per vehicle and per person entrance fee at the Sabi Sand Wildtuin gates:
• Per Vehicle: R 310.00
• Per Person: R 140.00

From Hazyview to MalaMala:
Travel to Hazyview in the Mpumalanga Province
and turn east at the SPAR Centre onto the R536 -
towards the Paul Kruger Gate.
After 37,5 kms you will see a brown road sign
indicating ‘MalaMala’ to the left. Turn left onto the
dirt road – beware the tight hairpin bend. Follow
this road for 3kms. At the T-junction turn right and
continue for another 4,2 kms to Shaw's Gate, the
entrance to the Sabi Sand Wildtuin.
Here you will be required to pay the ZAR310.00*
entrance fee per vehicle plus ZAR 140.00* per
person in cash. Please ensure that you collect the
necessary entrance permit from the gate guard.

MalaMala Rattray’s Camp. After 6,3km you will
come to a crossroad. Turn left at the cross road
following the sign to MalaMala / Rattray’s.
MalaMala Rattray’s Camp is approximately 11 km
from this point. If travelling to MalaMala Camp
and Sable Camp TURN LEFT at the “Y” junction
just before the Rattray’s turnoff.
