Game drives are conducted safely in a suitably equipped landrover with a wheelchair ramp
JUNIOR RANGER PROGRAMME Children’s Policy and Rates: Age restrictions do exist and are applied in the interests of personal safety as well as the comfort of other guests. MalaMala Camp welcomes children of all ages. Children under 12 years, sharing accommodation with full paying adults, pay the quoted child tariff. Children aged four and under are not permitted to dine in the boma in the evenings. Special dining arrangements can be made and baby-sitting services are provided on request, at a nominal charge. Children aged four and under are not permitted to join the game drives, unless their parents / party have reserved a private game drive vehicle at the additional cost. Family rooms may be used as a triple or a quad room to accommodate children – the sitting room area is converted to a bedroom utilising single beds. On arrival, the ranger hosting the family will assess the age, enthusiasm and independence of the children and in collaboration with the parents and guardians, various activities will be offered. A MalaMala backpack including an interactive checklist are given to each child between the ages of 4 & 12. The ranger hosting the family will, throughout their stay, offer some of the following activities : 1. The tracking of various animals from their spoor markings 2. Teach basic survival skills (where to find water, what plants are good to eat, medicinal uses of plants, etc.) 3. Warning signs of dangerous animals and first aid for emergency situations in the bush 4. A bush breakfast enables children to learn how to make fire and to participate in the meal preparation 5. Children are able to communicate on the radio (out of game drive times) 6. Special meals and “ration packs” are prepared for children 7. Children’s movies, wildlife movies (filmed on MalaMala) and board games are available in camp The MalaMala Sable Camp does not accommodate children under the age of 12, unless the entire camp is reserved exclusively. MalaMala Rattray’s Camp does not accommodate children under the age of 16. PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI VEHICLE We have a dedicated photographic safari vehicle, which comprises : • 3 rows of 2 bucket seats • A sliding camera mount per row • Bean bags for camera stability • Storage boxes for camera equipment • Under-seat lighting • A dedicated photographic ranger Rate: 2019 : US$ 700.00 per vehicle per day (midday to midday) on an exclusive basis Please request the photographic safari vehicle on confirmation of your reservation to ensure availability on arrival at camp.
THE DEFINITIVE AFRICAN EXPERIENCE This popular and exciting, 7 night wildlife package including MalaMala and Mashatu Game Reserves (two different safari area’s in two different countries) combines easily with Cape Town, Livingstone and Johannesburg using a combination of charter flights and scheduled flights. MALAMALA GAME RESERVE ROAD MAP AND DIRECTIONS Please ensure you receive an updated road map and directions from the reservations office on confirmation that guests will be travelling by road / self drive. The best route to travel within the reserve may change depending on weather conditions. It is essential that the guests speak with the camp reception prior to entering the reserve to receive their advice. For your safety and comfort please ensure that guests have entered the Sabi Sand Wildtuin before 16h00. It is important that you call the camp from Hazyview or the Sabi Sand Wildtuin gate. MalaMala Camp & Sable Camp : +27 13 735 9200 MalaMala Rattray’s Camp : +27 13 735 3000 The MalaMala Game Reserve is a 6 hour drive from Johannesburg via Hazyview. Access to Malamala is via the Sabi Sand Wildtuin, utilizing Shaw’s Gate. There is a per vehicle and per person entrance fee at the Sabi Sand Wildtuin gates : • Per Vehicle : R 280.00 • Per Person : R 120.00 From Hazyview to MalaMala : Travel to Hazyview in the Mpumalanga Province and turn east at the SPAR Centre onto the R536 - towards the Paul Kruger Gate. After 37,5 kms you will see a brown road sign indicating ‘MalaMala’ to the left. Turn left onto the dirt road – beware the tight hairpin bend. Follow this road for 3kms. At the T-junction turn right and continue for another 4,2 kms to Shaw's Gate, the entrance to the Sabi Sand Wildtuin. Here you will be required to pay the ZAR280.00* entrance fee per vehicle plus ZAR 120.00* per person in cash. Please ensure that you collect the necessary entrance permit from the gate guard. *Rates subject to change. Continue straight following the signs to MalaMala Rattray’s Camp. After 6,3km you will come to a crossroad. Turn left at the cross road following the sign to MalaMala / Rattray’s. MalaMala Rattray’s Camp is approximately 11 km from this point. If travelling to MalaMala Camp and Sable Camp TURN LEFT at the “Y” junction just before the Rattray’s turnoff. You will arrive at the MalaMala entry gate where you will be asked to sign the register.
