Preamble Preface of the President of the Technical University of Munich The foundation of a “polytechnic school“ in 1868 by Lud- wig II, king of Bavaria, not only created explorers and inven- tors, it also established a joint innovation culture between science and industry. Today the cooperation with industry has high priority for TUM: In more than 1000 cooperations per year and in strategic partnerships with prestigious world groups TUM is looking for solutions for complex technologi- cal issues in order to accelerate the transfer of technology in society. These connections back up the global presence of the “brand TUM” and add to the establishment as a globally active university. Our goal as an entrepreneurial university is to inspire our students and provide them with the right tools to act entrepreneurial by themselves to keep the level of our economy. This requires in particular those managers and decision-makers who accept challenges and are not afraid to perceive change as an opportunity rather than a risk. We want to provide our young talents with the necessary competencies within an environment of experienced scientific personalities that creates the opportunity for self-development. We promote the professional sovereignty and the entrepreneurial courage of our students – whether through a distinctive subject portfolio of natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, economics, so- cial sciences, medicine, and more recently political science. Ever since strong alliances with the economy shape our history – after all Linde AG was the first spin-off from our university. In order for students to benefit from synergies between science and industry during their studies, a strong platform is needed to enable the exchange of information with practice partners. Thus IKOM has become one of the largest contact platforms for companies and students within Germany. The great interest of the business shows not only that companies profit directly from this network formation but also that the TUM with its economic-friendly 4
Preamble teaching and research concept is headed in the right direction. Our top positions in scientific rankings and the 8th place in the latest "Global Employability Ranking" (2016) show that we educate the right way for the future labour market in science and economy. I would like to thank all students who volunteer at IKOM. They are decisively involved in the success of this career platform. You show me a single other university from whose center such a fabulous initiative had emerged. Wolfgang A. Herrmann President Technical University of Munich 5

Idea and Organisation Our Mission We develop contacts. Personally IKOM is a student initiative with more than 130 members who voluntarily organise career fairs and further events for students, such as field trips, workshops and lectures. All the ser- vices we provide for our fellow students are free of charge and are supposed to help them on their way into working life. Connected by team spirit and initiative, we are proud to be a central interface between stu- dents and industry at TUM. Realisation It is our highest priority to meet the high quality-standards of TUM as one of Europe’s lea- ding universities. Therefore, service and professionalism have major significance to us. We feel committed to our fellow students in our aim to provide a vast portfolio of companies and industries at our career fairs. This is the reason why we reach students of all faculties and all universities in the entire metropolitan area of Munich year after year. You, on the other hand, get the chance to meet highly qualified students and graduates of Munich’s renowned universities in order to win them for your company. History In June 2018, IKOM is going to be held for the 30th time at the premises of TUM’s Faculty for Mechanical Engineering in Garching near Munich. Since its foundation in 1988, IKOM has become Germany’s leading career fair with more than 300 companies and over 15.000 visitors on four days. Besides our main event IKOM which focuses on economics, IT, science and engineering, we organise three further specialised fairs. Since 2007, IKOM Bau annually takes place at TUM’s city centre campus focusing on civil engineering, geodesy and architecture. In 2008, IKOM Life Science was held for the first time at Science Park Weihenstephan, covering the third and last remaining site of TUM. 8
Idea and Organisation In 2013, we’ve introduced IKOM Start-Up as a one-day fair specifically for young compa- nies, taking place during one of the four days of IKOM directly in the neighbouring Faculty for Mathematics and Informatics. As our latest project we’ve started IKOM consulting day in 2014, where dedicated students can take part in workshops and case studies with con- sultancies. The Team Behind IKOM Students of various academic backgrounds make up IKOM, Munich's largest student initia- tive. Voluntarily and self-reliantly we successfully organise our numerous large-scale events every year – besides our studies. Working for IKOM is not only a meaningful commitment but also a key experience for the future working life of our team members. 9
National and International Partner Fairs of IKOM About our Partner Fairs For several years, IKOM has been in close contact to career fairs at other universities, which are also run by volunteering students. As of today, seven national and international student initiatives belong to our main partners. By means of intensive exchange and visits on a yearly basis we want to create a strong Eu- ropean platform for highly motivated students, helping them gain valuable experience and develop new ideas. This way we can learn from each other and contribute to the improve- ment of every partner fair. We warmly invite you to visit our partners listed below.
