WELCOME All of us at Providence Academy are so excited to invite you and your family to experience a variety of enriching and fun experiences for students age 5 to those in the high school Class of 2022. Participants do not need to be enrolled at Providence Academy to participate and may register for one activity or several. The PALS Camp is an excellent option for students, age 5 through entering grade 6, who want a full-day camp experience. We promote active learning in a safe and comfortable environment by providing quality content, excellent instructors, and a focus on faith in God and moral character. Most activities take place on the school’s beautiful 42-acre campus, conveniently located in Plymouth, allowing students to take advantage of the outstanding available resources, including a synthetic multi-sport field and state-of-the-art performing arts center. Many of our programs reach enrollment capacity, so we encourage you to register as soon as possible at www.providenceacademy.org/summer. We look forward to being a part of your summer! If you are excited for Middle School and want to learn all about it, this camp is for you. Meet some of the teachers and hear from current Middle School students about their experiences. Each day, at the beginning of camp, participants will be able to share their viewpoints on the story, ask questions, give opinions, etc. Fun and exciting projects and activities based on the story will also be a part of camp. ACTIVITIES & ARTS ENGINEERING FOR KIDS Engineering For Kids brings science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), to kids in a fun and challenging way and inspires children to build on their natural curiosity by teaching engineering concepts through hands-on learning. New! Disaster Engineering Hurricanes, tornadoes, and other destructive weather events highlight the role of engineers in improving forecasts and reducing the toll from natural disasters. Join our Disaster Engineering camp to brainstorm ideas and then us the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test and refine projects to avoid or minimize the impact of natural disasters like guiding search & rescue robots, measuring wind speeds and designing sturdier buildings. They will work collaboratively with their tribe members to compete against other tribes in specific engineering-related projects aimed at trying to survive the harsh island conditiions and escape to their freedom. The tribe with the most points at the end of the week will claim the honor of being the winners of Survivor Island! Housing a thrilling, hands-on aerial robotics platform, this camp is the perfect introduction to the world of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In this indoor camp, safety is a priority as students learn to fly and explore the real-world applications of drones. Students will master basic piloting skills, program their drone to fly on its own, and use the Engineering Design Process to problem solve. Putting critical thinking to the test, the camp also has students brainstorm ways drones could be used for good, sketching out their ideas for new and innovative drones and uses. Tech Tac Toe’s mission is to spread this knowledge through high quality classes that motivate and get young minds excited about technology, computers and science. Classes are designed to engage children in multiple ways: from conceptualization to design, ultimately building life skills such as problem solving, logic, and creativity. Programs are presented in a kid-friendly way and tailored to their abilities. We make great use of video game programming and other fun computer-based programs, as it allows children to learn the way they learn best: by playing! ATHLETICS SKYHAWKS Skyhawks provides a wide variety of fun, safe and positive programs that emphasize critical lessons in sports and life, such as teamwork, respect and sportsmanship. All participants receive a medal. Programs are designed to give each child a positive introduction into sports while fostering a lifelong love for an active and healthy lifestyle. Flag Football Skyhawks flag football is the perfect program for your young athletes who want a complete introduction to America’s Game or for those who simply want to brush up on their skills in preparation for league play. ACADEMICS SOC Insect-Microbiome Antibiotic Bioprospecting Research This Seeds of Change summer intensive workshop trains students to isolate antibiotic-producing bacteria that live symbiotically on and within insects (100-1000 times more effective than on/within soils) using the same methods as graduate-level researchers. In this course, students will learn how to: 1) isolate bacteria strains from insect samples, 2) establish isolate morphologies and other bioassay characteristics, 3) co-culture for antimicrobial inhibition against antagonists, 4) use polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and electrophoresis to amplify and visualize genes, 5) analyze 16S rRNA gene sequence results and establish phylogenetic ancestry (MOLE-BLAST and MEGA), and 6) analyze whole- genome sequencing results using antiSMASH to identify biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) that encode novel pathways for secondary metabolites with potential medical applications. PALS Full-Day Camp PALS Camp is designed for the student who is interested in a full-day camp experience. The camp provides enriching and fun activities for children age 5 through those entering grade 6, including a weekly field trip (subject to change based on COVID restrictions). All campers are exposed to daily activities that help them to stay abreast of some of their academic skills, introduce them to a new skill or interest, and enjoy time with new and old friends alike! Age 5 - Grade 2 The full day experience for our campers in this age range is theme-based. Sessions offer a variety of athletic and enrichment activities, arts and crafts, hands-on learning, reading and more. Grades 3-6 Students entering grades 3-6 will participate in a weekly activity offered on campus. Summer Program Dates Summer Programs are offered weekdays June 14th through August 20th. In observance of the Independence Day holiday, no programs will be conducted on Monday, July 5. POLICIES & PROCEDURES Absences Tuition will not be prorated or refunded due to school closings, family vacations or conflicting activities. If a student is asked to withdraw from an activity because of inappropriate conduct, a refund will not be issued. A refund for medical reasons is applicable for absences of two days or longer, and a doctor’s note is required. Attire Participants and staff are required to dress appropriately. Clothing must be neat, clean, modest, and free of offensive advertisements and slogans. Participants that dress outside of these expectations may be required to change into more appropriate attire. Cancellation Policy Providence Academy reserves the right to cancel any offering and will make every effort to notify families at least two weeks prior to the start date. In the event of cancellation, participants will have the option of applying the tuition toward another offering or obtaining a full refund. Comportment Providence Academy promotes respect among individuals and does not tolerate foul or threatening language, harassment or bullying, or other inappropriate conduct. Students may be asked to withdraw from the program if this policy is violated. 30
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures All students are expected to be present at the appropriate meeting location at the start of the activity and must be picked up by the end of the activity. Providence Academy reserves the right to charge a late pick-up fee in the event a child is not picked up by the end of the session time. The fee is $1 per minute, per child. Emergency Contact & Medical Information Registration must include emergency contact and medical information to be considered complete. Authorization for administration of medication is also required, if applicable. Min/Max Number of Participants & Waitlist Each camp has a minimum and maximum number of participants and these requirements vary from activity to activity. A minimum number of participants is required in order for an offering to be conducted; the activity is subject to cancellation if it does not reach the required number of participants. The maximum number of students is determined based on the type of camp and the appropriate student to teacher ratio, so that all participants may gain the full experience of the camp; a waitlist is available for activities that reach the maximum number of participants. Payment Payment in full is required at time of registration; a $25 fee will be assessed for payment that cannot be processed because of insufficient funds or a declined credit card. Photographs Providence Academy, its official representatives and assigns, have the irrevocable and unrestricted right to use and publish photographs of all the Providence Academy Summer Activities participants for editorial, trade, advertising, and any other purpose and in any manner and medium. Providence Academy and its official representatives and assigns are released from all claims and liability relating to said photographs. Supervision All students in the building must be under adult supervision. Weather If a session must be cancelled due to inclement weather, or any other unforeseen circumstance, the instructor will contact participants regarding the cancellation. Withdrawal & Refund Policy If you wish to withdraw any registration, your fee will be refunded if you request cancellation at least 20 days before the start of the session. To ensure staffing and program commitments to all families, refunds will only be granted after that date in the event of illness. Phone withdrawals are not permitted.
