This study examined HRQOL changes throughout HCV treatment and post-treatment for PWID achieving SVR Genomic epidemiology and transmission dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 in congregate healthcare facilities in Santa Clara County, California 30 Jul 2021 AbstractBackgroundOutbreaks of SARS-CoV-2 in long term care facilities (LTCFs) cause significant morbidity and mortality. Mapping viral transmission within and between by combining genomic sequencing with epidemiologic investigations enables targeting infection control interventions Higher comorbidity burden predicts worsening neurocognitive trajectories in people with HIV 30 Jul 2021 AbstractBackgroundAge-related comorbidities accumulate faster in people with HIV (PWH) than in those without (PWoH). We evaluated whether a validated multimorbidity scale, the Charlson Index, predicted neurocognitive trajectories in PWH.MethodsScaled scores a comprehensive neuropsychological battery were averaged across all visits Donor-derived ehrlichiosis: two clusters following solid organ transplantation 30 Jul 2021 AbstractEhrlichiosis has been infrequently described as transmissible through organ transplantation. Two donor derived clusters of ehrlichiosis are described here. During the summer of 2020, two cases of ehrlichiosis were reported to the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for investigation Risk of Healthcare-Associated Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in Hospitalized Cancer Patients 30 Jul 2021 AbstractBackgroundThere is limited information on the risk of hospital-acquired COVID-19 among high-risk hospitalized patients after exposure to an infected patient or healthcare worker (HCW) in a non-outbreak setting.MethodsThis study was conducted at a tertiary care cancer center in New York City from March 10, 2020, until February 28, 2021 Pharmacokinetics and Safety of Three Months of Weekly Rifapentine and Isoniazid for Tuberculosis Prevention in Pregnant Women 29 Jul 2021 AbstractBackgroundPregnancy increases the risk of tuberculosis and its complications. A 3-month regimen of weekly isoniazid and rifapentine (3HP) is safe and effective for tuberculosis prevention in adults and children, including those with HIV, but 3HP has not been evaluated in pregnancy Trends, mechanisms, and racial/ethnic differences of tuberculosis incidence in the US-born population aged 50 years or older in the United States 29 Jul 2021 AbstractBackgroundOlder age is a risk factor for TB in low incidence settings. Using data from the U.S. National TB Surveillance System and American Community Survey, we estimated trends and
racial/ethnic differences in TB incidence among US-born cohorts aged ≥50 years.Methods42,000 TB cases among US-born persons ≥50 years were reported during 2001–2019 Epidemiology and risk of COVID-19 among travelers at airport and port quarantine stations across Japan: a nationwide descriptive analysis and an individually matched case-control study 28 Jul 2021 AbstractBackgroundThe epidemiology and risk of COVID-19 among travelers at international borders remain unclear.MethodsWe conducted descriptive and individually matched case-control studies using a nationwide register for COVID-19 testing of travelers from August 3 to October 31, 2020 at airport/port quarantine stations across Japan Leveraging a preexisting global infectious disease network for local decision- making during a pandemic 28 Jul 2021 AbstractEmerging infectious disease epidemics require a rapid response from health systems; however, evidence-based consensus guidelines are generally absent early in the course of events. Formed in 2017 by five high-level isolation units spanning three continents, the experience of the Global Infectious Disease Preparedness Network (GIDPN) early in the course of COVID-19 provides a model for Letter to the Editor: Response to Maziade et al; Enhanced Clostridioides difficile infection prevention with a pharmacy-controlled policy that adds a three-strain Lactobacillus probiotic concomitantly to antibiotic therapy 28 Jul 2021 Vaccine effectiveness against acute respiratory illness hospitalizations for influenza-associated pneumonia during the 2015-2016 to 2017-2018 seasons, US Hospitalized Adult Influenza Vaccine Effectiveness Network (HAIVEN) 28 Jul 2021 AbstractBackgroundEvidence for vaccine effectiveness (VE) against influenza-associated pneumonia has varied by season, location, and strain. We estimate VE against hospitalization for radiographically identified influenza-associated pneumonia during 2015-2016 to 2017-2018 seasons in the US Hospitalized Adult Influenza Vaccine Effectiveness Network (HAIVEN) Digital chest radiography enhances screening efficiency for pulmonary tuberculosis in primary health clinics, South Africa 27 Jul 2021 AbstractBackgroundOptimized tuberculosis (TB) screening in high burden settings is essential for case finding. During the last two decades, three outbreaks of coronavirus-associated pneumonia, namely Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, Middle-East Respiratory Syndrome, and the ongoing Coronavirus Infectious Disease—2019 (COVID- 19) were Eosinophilic pustular folliculitis (EPF) in a patient with HIV infection 27 Jul 2021 Abstract Eosinophilic pustular folliculitis is a chronic, recurrent dermatosis, of unknown etiology, which is histologically characterized by folliculotropic inflammatory infiltrates with admixed eosinophils in the dermis. It has often presented with immunosuppression and especially with HIV-Infection. In the HAART-era, eosinophilic pustular folliculitis has become a rarity Correctly performed nasal swabs 27 Jul 2021 Abstract Background As the incidence of new cases of coronavirus disease increased exponentially, the use of viral swabs to collect nasopharyngeal specimens are increasing drastically. It occurs in adulthood and especially in individuals with preexisting pulmonary conditions. 1-3 Recent European guidelines categorized CPA into several phenotypes, i.e
Immune responses and reactogenicity after ChAdOx1 in individuals with past SARSCoV-2 infection and those without 27 Jul 2021 We have read the article by E. Sansone, et al.1 with great interest. The authors found the significant protective effect of BNT162b2 vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 infection and symptom development after SARS-CoV-2 infection among healthcare workers (HCWs) Epidemiological data and genome sequencing reveals that nosocomial transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is underestimated and mostly mediated by a small number of highly infectious individuals. 27 Jul 2021 Limiting acquisition of SARS-CoV-2 by patients and staff in hospitals is an infection prevention and control (IPC) priority. Despite robust efforts, both patients and staff are infected in hospitals; 10-40% of hospital-diagnosed COVID-19 cases are thought to have been acquired in hospital, with 8700 deaths following nosocomial infection reported in the UK, [1–4] and higher rates of seroconversion Emerging Polio Hotspots in Pakistan: Challenges and the way forward 26 Jul 2021 We read with great interest the article entitled "Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on Measles surveillance in Pakistan" by Rana M.S. et al.
