FEBRUARY 20, 2023 FEBRUARY IS CTE MONTH February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month where we recognize the value of CTE programs in a student's educational experience and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country. Judson ISD is immensely proud of our comprehensive CTE programs that support student future readiness with courses providing clear direction to pursue high-demand, post-secondary opportunities, whether that's a college education, joining the military, or entering the workforce. CTE celebrates students’ individual areas of strength, giving them the ability to see different opportunities in careers that they might not have ever considered. One of the many wonderful things about CTE courses is that they allow students to take classes that really match their interests and talents. Judson ISD CTE programs offer a sequence of courses that align with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills. CTE student experiences range from classroom learning to certification programs to work-based learning opportunities outside the classroom as well as participation in student leadership organizations. CTE allows students to use academic knowledge and problem-solving skills while acquiring specific occupation skills as part of their high school curriculum. Judson ISD high school students can choose from CTE course pathways such as construction, welding, healthcare, culinary arts, design and multimedia arts, biomedical science, teaching and training, business management and marketing, animal science, law enforcement and legal studies, cosmetology, automotive technology, digital communications, and engineering. Many of these programs also provide the opportunity for students to earn industry based certifications which can lead to internships and employment opportunities. In addition, through participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO), students can gain leadership experience, learn teamwork and the importance of community service. Judson ISD offers CTE courses at Wagner, Veterans Memorial, and Judson High School and currently has ninety-seven CTE teachers in the district with a wide range of experience and industry knowledge. FEBRUARY 20, 2023 CHARLES FORD: A JUDSON ISD MUSIC TEACHER WHO MORE THAN MAKES THE GRADE A primary focus for the Judson Education Foundation is to give teaching grants to innovative educators in the district. One who immediately stood out was Charles Ford, a music teacher at Park Village Blended Learning Academy in Judson ISD. He recently received his second grant from the foundation because of the vision he has for his students. “During his interview, he spoke about how music inspires students in a multitude of different ways. Not just in his classroom, but how the music can affect the students at home, and when they’re participating in sports activities,” said Lexie Greathouse, Executive Director of the Judson Education Foundation. “These things that Mr. Ford is doing for his students are exactly what the foundation looks for.” Learn more about Mr. Ford and his vision to bring music into everyday learning. FEBRUARY 20, 2023 DADS' DAY TO READ AT Copperfield Elementary At Copperfield Elementary dads, granddads, uncles, and brothers were invited to come read aloud to Bobcat classrooms for the Share the Love of Reading event. Approximately 30 men met in the Copperfield library on Friday morning to grab a book and then ventured on to their students’ classrooms where they shared a story with their child and the students in their child’s class. Principal Sheri Wrather gave a special "thank you" to the dads while they enjoyed coffee and donuts and prepared them for their storytelling experience. "It is important that students of all ages get read aloud to and even more important to see men doing the reading," librarian Nikki Polk said. The students were overjoyed to have guest readers in their classes and the dads felt like celebrities. They left saying they can’t wait ‘til the next opportunity to come and be a part of the Copperfield community! For more news and information about Judson ISD visit us on the web at www.judsonisd.org

FEBRUARY 20, 2023 February EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH The first thing the Coronado Village Elementary Principal Erika Garza said about Mrs. Topsy Thomas was, “she lights up a room when she walks in it.” She could not have been more spot-on! Thomas is the February Employee of the Month and she was over the moon about it, giving everyone within reach gigantic hugs and lighting up the room as promised! She is a relatively new addition to Coronado Village Elementary, joining them as the teacher in the Behavioral Academic Classroom. But, it didn’t take long for her to make an impact at CVE. “Rarely do you see an individual faced with such a diverse mix of personalities that makes up a new community, prosper, flow and help it grow in such a short amount of time,” CVE teacher Rachal Ramirez said. In her new role, Thomas was not shy about jumping into any situation with a smile and an encouraging word. She is knowledgeable and shares those successful strategies with her colleagues. Learn more about Mrs. Thomas and her role at Coronado Village Elementary. For more news and information about Judson ISD visit us on the web at www.judsonisd.org

They joined JISD underwriters on February 14 to get a real-life experience with our own JISD school bonds. Students got a rare glimpse into the world of finance given to them by experts in the field. It also connected our students to a larger picture of their school, district and community. Wagner HS teacher, Paul Fenoglio, is certain that the experience has impacted students in a meaningful way. “This provided students with a window into the larger adult world, as well as suggestions regarding possible career paths.
