COMMUNITY UPDATE Dear CATH Friends, Well it’s May and I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around this COVID-19 virus. There is hope on the horizon! Hopefully by the time you read this, those who choose to, will have had their Covid-19 vaccines. Now that more people are getting vaccinated for COVID-19, many are wondering when they can get back to their normal social lives and return to The Center. Unfortunately, a safe return to “normal” life won’t happen as quickly as we’d like. There are some considerations to make when you’re weighing risk to social activ- ities. We will keep you informed about any plans to re-open the BOARD OF senior center. DIRECTORS Its weird how fast this year is going. SOCIAL SERVICES DAILY ACTIVITY STUDY OF HEALTH (DASH) WITH NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY* To join the study: DASHresearchstudy@gmail.com. Think about joining this fascinating study! This study is funded by the National Institute on Aging and will examine changes in emotion, thinking, and daily activities in older adulthood. They are looking for adults 60-95 years old who can walk without assistance and who have access to a computer and internet at home. They are looking for people who spend a lot of time sitting and/or people who do not exercise especially regularly or vigorously. The hope is this study will help transform healthcare recommendations and the cognitive health of older adults in the future. The majority of the study will be conduct- ed remotely via virtual study sessions and there will also be an optional 2 in-person sessions at the Northeastern University campus in Boston. The study runs for a total of 3 months and partici- pants will be compensated for the time spent on study activities (about 12-18 hours total).
