A message from your
Board Chair
As we enter May and with bud break fast approaching, many workers
have arrived in Ontario. I encourage you to utilize the TFWP resourc-
es found on the Grape Growers of Ontario’s website, including a letter
template that can be printed for workers who may have completed their
self-isolation and may have to travel off the farm for work-related
reasons or are travelling from field to field. Information related to
support payments for quarantine workers is forthcoming.

I thank all our growers and wineries who are working diligently to
protect the health and safety of their employees, customers and
communities. We ask that you continue to check our website regularly
for important industry information in relation to COVID-19.

We kindly ask growers to fill out a grower survey that has been developed by OFVGA to help quan-
tify to government the impact of COVID-19 on growers’ production, finances, inputs, and labour.
The data collected will be treated as confidential and only used in aggregate to support analysis
and developing recommendations for government to support the edible horticulture sector. The
survey can be accessed by clicking here. For more information about the survey, please contact
Stefan Larrass, OFVGA Policy Advisor, at 519-803-9914 or slarrass@ofvga.org. The survey should
take about 10 minutes to complete. It will be open until Tuesday May 12, 2020.

In order to provide IPM scout training for grapes while respecting safety measures due to
COVID-19, training will be delivered by OMAFRA by webinar on Wednesday, May 20 13:00-15:00.
The webinar will be recorded and available for viewing following the training. More information and
registration is available at: https://onfruit.wpcomstaging.com/2020/05/04/grape-ipm-scout-
training-webinar/

At the end of April, the Grape Growers of Ontario hosted a webinar on economic crop management
during COVID-19 which featured Dr. Jim Willwerth from CCOVI. For those unable to participate the
webinar can be accessed here. We look forward to organizing additional, educational webinars
over the next several months, if you have a topic you would like to see covered, please contact
Eleanor Hawthorn at ehawthorn@grapegrowersofontario.com.

Lastly, I would like to thank Albrecht Seeger and Ernie Wiens for dedicating significant time this
winter to repair our Grape King float. We look forward to seeing everyone at parades in the future,
in the meantime stay safe and healthy.
