Start a New Season Much has changed in the world since the start of last year’s Girl Scout Cookie Season. Yet together, we can help girls reach their goals whatever the circumstances—while building skills that last a lifetime. To ensure the health and safety of not only our Girl Scouts, but also the business’s customers and staff we have added COVID-19 protocols. We will continue to monitor and evaluate the current health environment and may adjust these protocols throughout the program. You can find the most up-to-date information on the Health Updates GSDH page of our website. In this toolkit you’ll find a variety of new tools, tips and resources to help you support girls during in-person and virtual events. You’ll find options for low- and no-contact participation as you guide girls along this pathway to success. HOW WILL YOU PARTICIPATE? We know this cookie season may look a bit different, but our commitment to you is to find innovative ways for Girl Scouts to participate, learn, and reach their goals while keeping them safe. We are working hard to develop unique ways for everyone to participate at their comfort level. See below for the high level options and then download the chart to create your personalized cookie experience and help determine how you and your Girl Scouts may want to participate. Cookie Promotions Promotions are a great way to increase sales. GSDH has provided these options for girls to promote at booths or anytime they are selling cookies: 5 FOR 5 PROMOTION When customers buy 5 boxes of cookies, they can enter into an online drawing to win 5 cases (60 boxes)! GSDH will provide the cookies to the winners at no cost to troops participating. The 5 for 5 Promotion was designed to not only give customers a fun chance to win more cookies, but also help girls and troops increase their cookie sales. As a special bonus, troops that sold to each of the five winners will receive a $25 GSDH Retail Gift Certificate. Here’s how it works: • Troops print the flyer and entry cards to promote the contest at cookie booths. • Troops add their five digit troop number as the unique code on the business cards. • When a customer purchases five or more boxes they are given a business card. A customer can enter the contest for every multiple of five boxes purchased. • Customers then go online to gsdakotahorizons.org/5for5 to enter their contact information. • Five winners will be announced on Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons Facebook page on Thursday, April 1, 2021. • GSDH will provide cookies and facilitate pickup with the winners. HEROES ON THE HORIZON Heroes on the Horizon is our council cookie donation program that encourages girls to ask customers to donate $5 for cookies to be donated to military organizations, first responders and other local heroes throughout GSDH. Encourage girls and your troop to think about who the heroes are in your local community and why they should be recognized. Amp up your Heroes on the Horizon contributions by using this box wrap. Print it on 11x17 paper, cut it out, and wrap it around a Thin Mints box to spark conversation with customers about this great opportunity to give back to heroes in our communities. Printed copies will also be available in our Council Cookie Cupboards. PRO TIP: Cookies donated through Heroes on the Horizon qualify towards the 5 for 5 Promotion.
In-Person Booths SCHEDULING A BOOTH Council Scheduled booths are lined up by the council in popular locations. Find everything you need to know in the Just In Time: Cookie Booth Sign-Up with step-by-step instructions. Keep checking council booth availability as some troops may release their booths and/or more may be added throughout the program as we secure community partners. PRO TIP: If your troop signs up for a council scheduled booth and cannot attend, be sure to cancel the time slot in eBudde to allow another troop to take your place. Troop Scheduled booths are arranged by a troop with a local business (not already offered by council), a school or community event or drive-thru. These booths are entered into eBudde by the troop to get registered and approved by council prior to being held. PRO TIP: Registering your booth is important because it ensures that you’re covered by our insurance, your booth is listed on our Cookie Finder to help customers find you AND no double booking. DRIVE-THRU BOOTHS Now Girl Scout Cookie™ lovers don’t have to leave their cars to enjoy their favorite delights. When troops set up outdoor cookie booths in a parking lot (with permission from nearby businesses), Girl Scouts have a road map to success. Customers drive up—the cookies come out—happy cookie lovers drive off! Girls can determine a socially distant way to run their drive- thru booth using order station boxes and technology available through the Digital Cookie® Mobile App. Digital Cookie is a tool that can be used creatively for low-contact transactions. Credit card scanning in the mobile app allows girls to safely receive payments. Based on the Girl Scout safety policies we have the following requirements and recommendations to ensure you operate socially safe drive-thru cookie booths. REQUIREMENTS • All locations must be requested through eBudde. Enter “Drive Thru” in the Contact field. • You must have permission from the location to use their lot, make sure it is a large enough space to be able to keep girls away from traffic. • Everyone must wear masks. • Roles for girls – creating and marketing signage to encourage customers, relaying information between stations, placing cookies in cars. • Roles for adults – money handling & transactions, sanitizing baskets, supervising cookies to car transfers. • Maintain 6’ social distancing. See attached layout for suggested traffic pattern. RECOMMENDATIONS • Keep stock of cookies under table to limit contact. • Encourage cashless transactions if possible (i.e. Digital Cookie/Square). • Assign jobs for the entire day (i.e. one person is handling money, one is handling cookies). • Clean all tables and chairs several times throughout the day. • Have hand sanitizer available at every station for use between each customer transaction. • Use posters to advertise price and goals that also encourage social distancing. • Consider printing the Cookie Varieties flyer to show nutritional information without customers having to handle packages. Place in a plastic sleeve that can be wiped between transactions. • Have bins or trays available for safe money transactions. Consider creative options – plastic shoe boxes, cookie sheet, Tupperware – something able to be easily cleaned between transactions.
