A MINISTRY COMMITTED TO COMBATING CLIMATE CHANGE Farming and forestry can contribute between 20 and 60% to potential mitigation of GHG emissions over the period to 2030. Preservation of farmland and pastures can save 8-10 million tonnes of CO2. Changes to farming methods can save 12-15 million tonnes of CO2 through livestock farming (covers for slurry pits, biogas flares, methanisation, feed), fertiliser use (precise input dosage, organic nitrogen), and carbon storage in soils (soil cover, simpler working of the soil, longer crop rotations).
