Overview • Planning for use and impact • Overview of approach • STAC • Nodes • Research Partnerships • Operational Partnerships • Modelling and Forecasting Community • Education and Outreach
How we approach it… • STAC • Nodes • Research Partnerships • Operational Partnerships • Modelling and Forecasting Community
Science and Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) The STAC represents the scientific opinion of the marine and climate research community, and will work to advise the IMOS Office on the scientific rationale of a national observing system. • Role during 2018-2022 period • New technology proving • Evolving role and balance of membership

Nodes • STAC does not replace the role of Nodes • Jurisdictionally-based approach • Represents marine science community, and should include universities, government, and industry. • Not ‘one size fits all’
Nodes • How can we support Nodes and jurisdictions to ensure we’re engaged in the right regional policies and communities? • Communication products • Workshops • How can we engage with university communities in the development of ARC projects?
Research Partnerships • Ensure IMOS is aligned with national, global and regional priorities Climate NESP ESCC, ACE CRC/ASCI, Gateway/SRI, AASP, CLEX, CSIRO CC, CSHOR, BOM Ocean management NESP MBH, RIMREP, NESP TWQ, Parks Australia+States, MEMA, Fisheries & Aquaculture RPN, SGEDI, WAMSI Operational oceanography Bluelink, eReefs, eSA Marine, TPOS, Darwin Harbour
Operational Partnerships • Forum for Operational Oceanography • Melbourne, 15-16 October 2019 • Investment in waves • Role in Bluelink • Research focus with operational application
Modelling and Forecasting Community • Good community engagement through ACOMO • Last event held October 2018 • Eric Schulz et al talk next • What can we do to improve engagement with this community?
Education and Outreach New things spinning up • e-Lectures (Ana Lara-Lopez) • Public outreach • Workshops at key conferences (AMOS/AMSA) • Communication strategy refresh
Feedback • Please let us know how the IMOS Office can improve its engagement with the (very broad) IMOS Community. • e.g. how can we get involved to support ARC bids etc? • Please note we’re a small office, and note the time pressures of any new activities. bit.ly/imosapm2019 (or navigate to Annual Planning Meeting 2019 on the website)
