I have a working involvement in the Wanaka Reset Summit and other Wanaka Business Stakeholder collaborations and Workshops. These activities provide a wide and informative range of perspectives for business in the Community I can apply to IW goals. Currently there’s a positive opportunity to continue developing our “Wanaka Identity” and I want to contribute to this by being active on the IW Executive to help establish these goals.
My experience ensures a contribution that is characterised by building professional relationships effectively and providing clear, strategic thinking for practical outcomes. I’m married to Mandy, a primary school teacher and we live in Wanaka. Three of our four adult children are currently living overseas. Claire Dooney - Leafcutter Business Support - Owner/Operator Arriving in Wanaka 19 years ago, I fell in love with the vibrancy and lifestyle this small town offered. Like many before me, I never left! I have served two years on the Ignite board and am loving it. I am a member of the Institute of Directors NZ, in which I seek professional development. I am also a board member for New Zealand Snowsports Instructors Alliance. A SME business owner of Leafcutter Business Support, I have sound knowledge of sectors including HR, Health & Safety, Finance, Marketing, and Communications. In my current board role, I currently work with Ignite to source revenue through funding and sponsorship. I also enjoy initiating and supporting the implementation of strategic change and creating a future focus approach. Catching up with our members, meeting new members, and wherever possible, connecting people and their businesses is a priority. It is a pleasure to collaborate and work with the Ignite Chamber's leadership team. We all share the same vision and passion for business success and vitality in Wanaka. I aim to draw on my unique experiences to successfully contribute to the Ignite Wanaka Chamber of Commerce's future direction and growth. Chris Goddard, Black Swan Consulting I have a 27-year background at the senior manager level transforming medium and large business and generating significant, long term additional cashflow across the Mining and related SME sectors across both NZ/Australia and further afield. This included finding blue collar labour at the right quality for the right price for the mining industry. Australian mining has issues here since 2012, which we solved through building collaboration with businesses, suppliers, community and governments. COVID has made a tight labour market in Wanaka / Central Otago even tougher. Australia has recently offered and advertised to subsidise and relocate agricultural workers from NZ. Other NZ regions are working to entice workers to work there. I feel we must act quickly and decisively to attract and retain a quality workforce to our region while also supporting the wider “NZ inc” to build up the workforce. Ignite Wanaka is absolutely essential in doing this and there is a driving need to get this right now.

I have been Board Chair at Wanaka Primary School for 5 years and during that time have built our governance and strategic capability and worked to bring our schools closer together. I have worked with the Mayor to challenge the Ministry of Education to change their national transport policy to improve safety for our children. I am a mentor for the School Trustees Association to help guide boards and trustees around the country. My approach is to always be collaborative, constructive and communicative and I am passionate about a diversified, successful future for our community.
