Encryption of data in transit (through HTTPS) and at rest: Where applicable, each IBM mobile application supports encryption of data in transit, via HTTPS, as well as ensures the appropriate data at rest is encrypted. For example, Lotus Notes Traveler encrypts the e-mail content body including attachments, Sametime Mobile encrypts all chat history, and Connection Mobile encrypts all downloaded data. Android application sandboxing: The applications take advantage of the Android application security model, where the data is sandboxed Device Management: Lotus Notes Traveler software provides a set of device and application management capabilities that allow the administrator to set and enforce a variety of policy options, customized to meet corporate requirements. Examples include: o Require device password – configurable options include requiring an alphanumeric value, setting a minimum length, specifying the number of times a wrong password can be entered before wiping the device o Screen lock – enforce max time for screen lock o Data wipe – Support local and remote full device wipe, remote application only wipe (partial wipe) and remote storage card only wipe o Prohibit devices incapable of security enablement – administrators can elect, based on company policy, whether or not to allow Android devices incapable of supporting Android Mobile Solutions for Enterprise 11
security enablement to sync with the Traveler server (e.g. pre Android 2.2 devices can be denied access by policy) o Prevent attachment sync – Administrators can elect, based on company policy, to not allow Lotus Notes Traveler syncing of attachments o External Domain validation – Require user confirmation on any e-mail to be sent to external domain before sending o Device approval – If policy is enabled, administrator must explicitly approve end user device before it can access the Lotus Traveler service, and optionally specify how many devices a user is allowed to sync before requiring approval o Compliance detection – If a user changes a device setting to be non-compliant according to the Lotus Traveler enforced policy, Lotus Traveler application data is wiped 3.2 Device Management Integration and Compatibility HTC Android devices support a wide range of full mobile device management solutions, for which IBM mobile offerings are compatible (e.g., MobileIron). Included in this support list, is the IBM Endpoint Manager for Mobile Devices software. Endpoint Manager for Mobile Devices software manages corporate and employee-owned HTC mobile devices that access enterprise resources. This product can be used to manage security controls, enforce policies, detect rooted devices, report software and hardware inventory, track location, and offer applications via an enterprise app store. Endpoint Manager for Mobile Devices software also includes integration features specific to IBM mobile applications, to both strengthen the set of Mobile Device Management (MDM) capabilities offered, as well as ease overall IT MDM administration. 4 CONNECT IBM and HTC makes it easier for mobile workers to securely access important information across multiple networks—without interruption—so they can connect, collaborate and do business at any time from virtually anywhere. HTC Android devices support a wide range of VPN clients (e.g., Cisco AnyConnect® SSL, Android L2TP/IPSec and PPTP). As with the HTC Android device supported MDM solutions, IBM mobile applications are compatible with a wide range of VPN solutions. 4.1 Lotus Mobile Connect IBM's VPN offering for HTC Android devices is IBM Lotus Mobile Connect software. Lotus Mobile Connect software is a complete mobile and wireless security rich Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution. It creates a mobile Virtual Private Network (VPN) that can encrypt data over vulnerable wireless local area network (LAN) and wireless wide area network (WAN) connections. It integrates an exhaustive list of standard Internet Protocol (IP) and non-IP wireless bearer networks, server hardware, device operating systems, and mobile security protocols. By creating a mobile VPN, Lotus Mobile Connect goes well beyond the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) level of security offered by other (mobile and non-mobile) products. Having been in existence as a VPN product for over a decade, Lotus Mobile Connect software was originally designed to provide a true, robust, mobile VPN solution. Unlike the high bandwidth and readily available mobile networks today, initial mobile networks were unreliable, and of high latency and low bandwidth. Lotus Mobile Connect software's end user experience is one that eases the usability of a mobile VPN, by providing features such as seamless cross network roaming, a wide variety of authentication options, and more, to address the pain points of using a mobile VPN both with mobile networks of the older generation, and those that exist today. For HTC Android devices, Lotus Mobile Connect software currently provides a 'clientless' solution for HTTP-based applications, available via a service, HTTP Access, on the Lotus Mobile Connect server. Mobile Solutions for Enterprise 13
Lotus Mobile Connect HTTP Access (client-less) Network Architecture 4.1.1 Feature Highlights Lotus Notes Traveler, Sametime mobile, Connections mobile software, and SmartCloud Meetings offerings - all support HTTP as the transport protocol, making each compatible for use with the Lotus Mobile Connect clientless solution on HTC Android devices No required installation of client software. Single Sign On: Lotus Mobile Connect Gateway + application authentication Distributable and scalable architecture Reduction of mobile transmission costs and lower connection fees through data optimization functionality Configurable to run simultaneously with Lotus Mobile Connection client VPN sessions Security Rich: Uses same strong authentication and encryption algorithms as the full Lotus Mobile Connect VPN client Encryption algorithms isolated into a FIPS 140-2 certified cryptographic module Contains the latest secure SSL/TLS ciphers and industry standard authentication mechanisms Two way certificate validation available for additional layer of trust IBM Product Specific Integration Examples: Mobile Solutions for Enterprise 14
