Foreword Welcome to our IAPS professional development programme for the academic year 2018-2019. IAPS offers a successful and reputable programme of professional development courses and conferences which are available for all staff in our member schools. Our courses are designed to cover the most important and current issues facing Independent Prep Schools; appealing to a wide range of staff, including courses for Teaching Assistants, Safeguarding, Coaching and Engineering in Schools. We are enormously grateful for the significant contribution made by the IAPS Subject Advisers to the programme of events and, in addition to a continuing focus on subjects and curriculum issues, IAPS is offering new courses which include: three one-day workshops with The National Literacy Trust; two one-day courses with Steven Burnage of Simply INSET, “Developing Outstanding Learning” and “Raising Standards through Mentoring and Coaching”, and a day with Marilyn Hawes, CEO of Freedom from Abuse – “Are we able to Prevent Child Abuse?” Further, we are excited to be welcoming Professor John Hattie to the IAPS circuit, where he will be presenting a conference at Wellington College based around Visible Learning. We continue to enjoy partnering with Dragonfly Training, Independent Thinking Ltd, AMCIS and ISC to deliver a diverse and comprehensive professional development programme. To complement our training programme, we have introduced IAPS iLearning – a digital, mobile solution for additional training needs. This is a significant development for IAPS and will further meet the needs of IAPS staff. For more details and a list of available courses, visit the IAPS website https://iaps.uk/courses/iaps-ilearning/ Our paperless initiative, providing materials electronically to delegates, has proved successful and these resources will continue to be available either prior to a course or through the IAPS website. The IAPS conference app has also been a success at our larger conferences and this initiative will continue to be used at the Annual Heads’ Conference and the Pre Prep and Early Years Conference. In 2017–2018 over 1,500 IAPS members of staff attended our courses and conferences. We endeavour to provide and deliver the best value and quality at all our events. Feedback is always welcome and valuable to help us reflect, plan and prepare future courses, and we hope that you find this year’s programme of events beneficial and relevant. I look forward to meeting you at some stage during the year and please do not hesitate to contact the Education, Advice, Sport and Training (EAST) Team should you require any further assistance in respect of our professional development programme.
