It’s the perfect reminder of the purity and renewal that’s ours for the taking by opening ourselves to the gifts of everyday grace and baptism experiences, immersing fully as innocent children do. Join us as we continue on our journey with an upcoming Adventures in Grace “Rest Stop” for deeper discussion about baptism, questions and reflection on Wednesday evening, January 26th, 7-8:30PM, via Zoom. Please visit www:holyfamilparish.org/aig for more information. You can also catch up on prior segments, watch inspirational sessions and register to join the program at any time. We look forward to continuing on our journey together through all the promises that this New Year brings. Fr. Terry 6 January 16, 2022

Human Concerns “Seamless Garment: A Consistent Ethic of Life” On the 49th Anniversary of Roe vs Wade (January 22, 1973) Since its inception Holy Family Catholic Community has supported Cardinal Sue Geegan Bernardin’s pro-life position to be a consistent ethic of life. This position has been Director validated by Pope John Paul and Pope Francis. It is important to appreciate the 847-907-3443 gift of life at ALL STAGES – from womb all the way to tomb. When too much em- sgeegan phasis is given to only one issue, there is less attention paid to the others. No one person can take care of every pro-life cause, however, when the Church and all its @holyfamilyparish.org members work together, all issues that protect life at any stage can be addressed. On March 11, 1984, Cardinal Bernardin delivered a moving speech at St. Louis The Human University. A particular portion of his lecture series became known as the “Seam- Concerns less Garment: A Consistent Ethic of Life”. His message emphasized the impor- Community... tance of why we need to espouse a consistent ethic of life: (1) the dimensions of offers assistance with the threats to life today; and (2) the value of our moral vision. life’s basic needs, Cardinal Bernardin continued, “The idea of a consistent ethic of life – one spiritual and emotional which stands for the protection of the right to life and the promotion of the rights support as well as which enhance life from womb to tomb – manifests the positive potential of the additional resources Catholic moral and social tradition. Equally sacred, however, are the lives of the poor, those already born, the destitute, the aban- doned and the underprivileged, the vulnerable infirm and elderly exposed to covert euthanasia, the victims of human trafficking, new forms of slavery, and every form of rejection.” An excerpt from Richard Rohr’s Daily Meditation, Monday, Dec 13, 2021 (cac.org) Howard Thurman – “I want to be more loving in my heart” I invite you to pray for the ability to be more loving with modern mystic Howard Thurman (1900–1981): I want to be more loving in my heart! It is often easy to have the idea in mind, the plan to be more loving. To see it with my mind and give assent to the thought of being loving—this is crystal clear. But I want to be more loving in my heart! I must feel like loving; I must ease the tension in my heart that ejects the sharp barb, the stinging word. I want to be more loving in my heart that, with unconscious aware- ness and deliberate intent, I shall be a kind, a gracious human being. Thus, those who walk the way with me may find it easier to love, to be gracious because of the Love of God which is increasingly expressed in my living. “I want to be more loving in my heart!” Howard Thurman, Meditations on the Heart (Beacon Press: 1953, 1981), 168–169. 8 January 16, 2022
