ARTS-IN-EDUCATION Our 2021-22 Arts-In-Education Showcase is an opportunity to bring together artists and PTAs for the children in our schools. The purpose is to encourage the creative behavior and conceptual development of children through the “arts”, to emphasize the value of visual learning in all curricular areas, to provide support for classroom teachers, art teachers, librarians, school administrators and arts advocates. Is your school arts program (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) as strong as it can be? Have you considered meeting with your principal or teachers of the arts to see what PTA can do to support an effective arts curriculum? Here are some questions that might be posed by your committee: 1. Does the district have a written sequential arts curriculum with specific goals that is used in grades K through 12? 2. Does the curriculum include different aspects of the arts, and learning how to interpret the arts? 3. Does the district support its arts program by purchasing textbooks, visual reproductions, tapes, films, and instruments? 4. Does each student receive instruction in the arts from a qualified teacher for an adequate time period? 5. Is the school’s arts program evaluated regularly for effectiveness? 6. Do teachers ever include an arts-related discussion or activity in other subjects? 7. Do students with special needs have the arts included as an important part of their education? 8. Do students have the opportunity to learn how to be good, informed audience members by enjoying live performances by professional artists in the schools? 9. Are talented parents and/or community members invited to share their skills and talents with students? 10. When students study careers, are some arts-related careers discussed? 11. Are school performances by drama, music, or dance groups well publicized in the community? 12. Is the work of the students ever displayed in the community? The inclusion of individual performers or organizations in this directory is not an endorsement by NASSAU REGION PTA, its parents, affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents and representatives (collectively “Nassau Region PTA”). The individual performers or organizations listed have not been interviewed or otherwise reviewed for their programs or credentials and any views expressed by an individual performer or organization does not necessarily reflect the views of the Nassau Region PTA. JUMP UP IT’S A GOOD DAY – A POSITIVELY MUSICAL CELEBRATION (WHERE THE STUDENTS CHOOSE THE SONGS!) By Three-time Grammy Nominees Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could. Long Island Grammy nominee Brady Rymer performs his acclaimed original songs in a joyful, interactive and high-spirited concert encouraging a culture of kindness by exploring many of the six pillars of character. Schools receive Brady’s CD catalog prior to the concert and are encouraged to choose a special song for each grade. This allows classrooms the opportunity to connect to the material and make it their own. During the show, Brady and the band perform the school’s song choices with a shout-out to each grade. The infectious energy of Rymer and his band gets everyone on their feet -- students and teachers alike. Catchy melodies and song lyrics: “That’s me on the map here I stand, that’s my state and this is my land.” “Everywhere you go and everything you do, give ‘em a smile big and bright and shine your little light of love.” “Jump up it’s a good day! You’ve got to shine, like the sun today.” Connect children to themes of self- confidence, respect, fairness, diversity, caring and friendship. This show will have your entire school singing and dancing along, groovin’ and feelin’ inspired! UNDER THE BIG UMBRELLA! SONGS OF KINDNESS & INCLUSION Join Three-time GRAMMY Nominees, Brady and the Little Band That Could as they sing original and well-known songs about kindness, compassion, acceptance, friendship & love from their new CD release Under the Big Umbrella. This material was inspired by their work playing and collaborating with elementary school students and teachers. Song ideas and lyrics suggested by the students included, “You Do You”, “Different is Beautiful” and “Thank You for Being You.” You’ll rock along to titles like, “Under the Big Umbrella” (promoting diversity & acceptance and displaying fun word play & rhyming), “Stick Up For” (anti-bullying dance anthem) and “Drop in the Bucket” (interactive sing-along about kids adding to the good deeds bucket). You’ll also sing along to the positive messages of some well-known classic like the Beatles, “Help from My Friends,” “Love Train” by the O Jays (which starts a school-wide conga line!) and “You Can Get It If You Really Want” (the reggae anthem about overcoming obstacles & never giving up). Like all of Brady’s shows, there’s a ton of interactivity, off-the-charts energy, and happy faces singing & dancing. Each class will receive their own music beforehand (CD’s or a link to an online playlist) enhancing the concert experience by having time to become familiar with the music and the lyrical concepts. Students and teachers are encouraged to join the band onstage if they wish. Classes can also choose their own personal requests! Brady & the band might even give them a shout out from the stage.
